Mass Effect 2: The Ultimate Multi-play Experience

Released to huge expectation, Mass Effect 2 headed straight to the top of the UK all-format sales charts upon release in January 2010 and was heralded a unanimous success by public and press alike. Its popularity is, therefore, undeniable, but with an average run-through time of thirty-three hours what is it about Mass Effect 2 that compels a gamer to return again and again, and devote a possible 924 hours, that’s equivalent to 38 days, to a single game?

Mass Effect is the greatest new IP this generation in my opinion. I love it. Bioware created a massive universe and created games, books, comics to greatly support it. And you don't have to read all of them to know what's going on in the game unlike Halo, which gets really confusing after some point. Can't wait for Mass Effect 2 on PS3 and Mass Effect 3.

Megaton5637d ago

I dunno if it's my #1, but it's in my top 3 for sure. I've played through the first one 5 times and the 2nd one 6 times. Amazing series. ME3 is my most anticipated game across all platforms by a long shot.

"I dunno if it's my #1, but it's in my top 3 for sure."

I second that notion.

In terms of RPG IP created this gen, this is definitely in my top 5.
(But, I loves Dragon Age alot more! :D Man the story and historical depth of Dragon age just blows everything else.. not to mention the crazy amount of content)

Enough to say, Bioware has been putting the best of the best RPGs this gen, whether it's Mass Effect or Dragon Age <3

BeOneWithTheGun5637d ago

Beat it on PC and anxiously awaiting the PS3 release.

blizzard_cool5637d ago

Well I'm sure that for many people this is the game they replayed the most. But for me it's ratchet & Clank:UYA, beat that game more then 15 times :D

BYE5637d ago

I played it once only, the shooting sequences became too repetitive after a while to play it again right away.

But I will definitely play it again on PS3.

Kran5637d ago

Hate it, always will hate it, cant judge me, you dont know me, goodbye.

bananlol5637d ago

Then why did you comment? I dont like fantasy ala lord of the rings, but that doesnt mean i will go into a dragon age news and post like you did only to get attention or whatever youre after.

vickers5005637d ago

"cant judge me, you dont know me"

Holy sh*t you're defensive, lol. Work out your own insecurities somewhere else, this isn't the place for that.

Kran5637d ago

Its a way to put my opinion forward, but since you guys dont know me, it wont offend me. Simpelz :D

vickers5005637d ago

You could have put your opinion forward without being so defensive. If you really weren't offended, then you would have just simply stated that you hated Mass Effect 2 and left it at that, but instead you chose to go for the attention seeking route with your comment.

Obviously you have a problem with people giving you sh*t, but choose to act like it doesn't affect you.

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast509d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine509d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast509d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman509d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast508d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan757d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave756d ago (Edited 756d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
