GTA V unlikely 'til 2012 - Analyst

Take-Two recently announced it was shifting its fiscal year to end on March 31 in order to better put it in line with other major game publishers. Today, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey issued an analyst note which laid out some predictions for the New York-based publisher. Namely, that it will remain profitable even if the next Grand Theft Auto doesn't come out during its next fiscal year.

Hickey believes that Take-Two's 2011 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2011, until March 31, 2012, will feature two major game highlights: Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. He thinks those two games will lead a software lineup--which may also include the long-delayed Duke Nukem Forever--that can make the company profitable in a year without a GTA or a Red Dead game.

Im still playing GTAIV Cops and Crooks every few days, just can't stop, this mode got me by the ass, so addictive.

I just wish the AWP trophy would just damn well unlock for me...

MultiConsoleGamer5662d ago

Although I'm really looking forward to L.A. Noir, and I'm sure Max Payne will be good, neither game will be the massive financial hit that Take Two needs.

They're going to have to release some GTA content before 2012. How about a GTAII Trilogy Collection disc for PS3/Xbox 360? It would sell like hotcakes.

Or how about this? "San Andreas Online?"

showtimefolks5662d ago

i would buy them and for SA do them from PC ports so we won't have to deal with stupid plane missions towards the end.

GTA V needs to be more about fun/rpg elements its sad to say that the best GTA game was last-gen SA.

saints row 2 for me was all about fun and i am looking forward to hearing more about the 3rd which will most likely be in 2012 also so we could see gta v and saints row 3 come out in 2012

awsome games

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty130d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan131d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher130d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty130d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12130d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.
