CryEngine 3 and Id Tech 5 destroy this.

Chicken Chaser5654d ago

I played the Crisys 2 beta and I can tell you It doesn't look half as good as this. It obviously was pre-alpha but it doesn't destroy it.

Pandamobile5654d ago

You're also playing the 360 version.

wwm0nkey5654d ago

@Chicken Chaser

I played it too but we where playing a PRE-Alpha! and the 360 version, things change and the PC version already looks worlds better than this. Though I will say this is a great improvement over the last Unreal 3 update and will be happy to see more games use it.

ProjectVulcan5654d ago (Edited 5654d ago )

Crytek have forced Epic to keep evolving their engine where they might not be as inclined to do so. Cryengine 3 has introduced a superb competing multiformat technology which will force the evolution of each engine to keep up.

Maybe this will not benefit the consoles as much as it will benefit a platform with the performance to use all these additional features in the latest game engines- PC. After all this latest UE3 demo is assuredly running on a PC.

TheIneffableBob5654d ago

Say what you will, but Unreal Engine 3 looks solid, is well optimized, and it's easy to use for modders.

NegativeCreepWA5654d ago

I've never understood the pointless hate toward the Unreal Engine, some of the best looking are made with it.

Nihilism5654d ago

@j-blaze

lol.

That has more to do with the hardware, UE3 is smooth as butter on PC, whether it is my new PC or old.

If I had to choose cryengine *2* or UE3 for a multiplat game I would choose UE3 because it is so well optimised that you could have a lot more going on, on screen and still have good performance.

dirthurts5654d ago

Lag is actually based on the internal network coding. Not hardware or game engine.

CryEngine 3 and Id Tech 5 will not run as well as this on current gen hardware. Also, UE3 is cheaper and easier for third parties to license from Epic. But everyone already knew that, since hundreds of games have done this.

This demo is gorgeous. Too bad no info is given on what games will be first to use the new tools.

megacheak5654d ago

"Too bad no info is given on what games will be first to use the new tools"

Bulletstorm, Gears of War 3

awiseman5654d ago (Edited 5654d ago )

Yea, i have to agree that Cryengine is leagues ahead of this. Although I cant wait to see the PS3 Fanboys start trolling in saying it looks atrocious mainly bacause one of the biggest 360 exclusives run on it. They do the same regarding GT5, they say Forza 3 looks like shit when it clearly does not.

MajestieBeast5654d ago (Edited 5654d ago )

Inb4 360 fanboy thats already in full defense mode without any reason. Ohh nevermind.

Rage_S905654d ago

forza looks great

but then xbox fanboys say i looks better then gt5 which is a lie

Da_Truth5654d ago

Ehhh Forza 3 does look like shit compared to GT5, but Forza 3 is more fun to play...GT5 is soul-less, boring, don't know what it is though, but graphically it runs circles on Forza

P1NKY5654d ago

Err... Remember when Epic showed the trailer for all the improvements in the Unreal Engine 2, using Gears 2 as the platform to show it off, like destructible environments, realistic fluid effects, mass armies with intelligent AI etc. Well you'll also remember that Gears 2 didn't use any of them improvements apart from some realistic flesh inside the worm and some water physics.

Just because this trailer shows all these cool things does not mean they will all be present in Gears 3.

Don't get me wrong, the Unreal Engine does look good but iD Tech 5 also looks good and it runs at 60fps.

RevXM5654d ago

They showed of a UE 3 version with Gears 2, not UE 2.
But you are right that the fancy tech wasnt there in Gears 2.

BTW Framerate have nothing to do with an engine, I mean UE 3 can run a game at 60fps, or 600 if you want... Im pretty sure any engine can.

The Creep5654d ago

RevXM you are incorrect

P1NKY5654d ago

My mistake on the U2 - U3 thing. I know any engine can run at whatever fps the developers want it to. What I meant was that the iD 5 Engine targets 60fps and is quite capable of doing that on console even with great graphics. The U3 Engine also has great graphics but it usually targets 30fps and even then it tears now and then.

I like the look of the U3 engine. Lets just hope they are able to implement all these features into a game without performance issues.

megacheak5654d ago

You're absolutely wrong. Gears 2 has all the features shown in the demonstration. Except for one - hundreds of unique characters in the frame. Those who played the game know this, but we should not deceive those who did not play.

Pandamobile5654d ago

And people say Unreal 3 can't look good...

Rage_S905654d ago

on pc it obviously can but on consoles meh....

El_Colombiano5654d ago

It looks great. I can't deny it. But there's just something about it I don't like.

kaveti66165654d ago

It's your problem. Not the engine's.

El_Colombiano5654d ago

Say what you will, the look stays the same throughout the games that are built on UE3. You can not deny it.

Convas5654d ago

Screw the haters. UE3 is an awesome engine, and it's great to see competition driving the different engines to push standards higher.

MajestieBeast5654d ago

The problem with UE3 was/is its overused and the vaseline shine allot of games had like gears. But i hope they fixed allot of that with these new improvements.

aviator1895654d ago (Edited 5654d ago )

Looks great! I wonder if Gears 3 will use this tech.

Disney Should Buy Fortnite And Epic Games, Former Exec Says

The Walt Disney Company's new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a big fan of video games, and one former Disney executive believes D'Amaro would be smart to do even more in gaming going forward. This could include a buyout of a gaming company like Epic Games.

In an interview with CNBC, Kevin Mayer--a former Disney and TikTok executive who now runs Candle Media--said D'Amaro will need to take "bold steps" to help Disney make more money and grow its stock price. One part of this could be doing more in gaming, he said.

Apparently nobody remembers the absolute shitshow that happened when EA brought the Havok engine which was used as the default engine of the 6th generation like UE is used today.

SkilledGamer48d ago

You've got it wrong, EA bought Renderware not Havok. Havok was bought by Intel in 2007 and then Microsoft in 2015

Fishy Fingers48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Nor was it ever a widely used or considered, game engine, Renderware was. It was and still is a physics/material simulation plugin for the actual game engines.

Profchaos47d ago

Yeah you're right i was thinking of Renderware. But point still stands Renderware was used literally everywhere from games like GTA 3,VC,SA to Sonic games and Tony hawk it was really the default industry wide engine that UE is today.

If Disney takes over Epic and UE we could face a situation where they change the terms of use for other game devs big and small. They could remove the licensing agreements currently in place and impose a payment per download model like Unity did which could cripple the industry.

TOTSUKO48d ago

Fck Disney stock and their shareholders.

blacktiger48d ago

Well I can imagine DIsney with their transgender Snowwhite and black cinderally and mermaid and other garbage. Imagine video games lmao!!!

shinXseijuro47d ago

You sound like a fun person to be around .

Huey_My_D_Long47d ago

Dumbass cant even spell Cinderella but apparently he's upset by the 1997 Cinderella classic starring Brandy. Almost 20 year old movie.
Just say you dont like black people man, we all know it.

rlow148d ago

I really hope this doesn’t happen. They ruin everything that they buy. Terrible company

Zerobalance48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Trolling. Hope Disney take the Maval characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine away from Sony and make it themselves that would me laugh so hard.

"It is going to get so much worse in the video game industry...This will get worse and going to be bad and it's going to eventually get better." -Greg Miller right before it got worse

Agent7550d ago

Too many games, too many versions, download only games, game pricing, £700+ consoles, eye watering prices for controllers, four formats, gaming is one big mess.

gold_drake50d ago

id argue that epic games has alot of other revenue income other than fortnite, so their reasoning makes zero sense.
