Keeping an eye on hidden object games (BeefJack.com)

BeefJack: "These game types have perhaps been sidelined by the major games outlets for one obvious reason: they tend to appeal to a less game-savvy audience, preferred instead by players who drop in and out of the scene, picking up and playing on a more as-and-when basis. But increasingly we’re seeing a proliferation of the hidden object game, as it morphs and mutates into a different beast entirely."

It's fascinating to see how this genre has evolved over the years. I certainly enjoy the hidden-object adventure titles. They allow me to get my 'point and click' adventure fix - something I'd missed since the Sierra days, with games like "Lara Bow and the Dagger of Amun-Ra."

sykora5674d ago

You're right. It has become quite big, hasn't it?

The weirdest thing ever happened to me last night.

I played a hidden object game years ago in my friend's apartment. Since, I've never been able to find it.

They have ONE and only ONE hidden object game on the PlayStation Network...that got added last night.

It was that game.

^_^ I'm so happy!

There's that new one about the dreams that was released yesterday... But there's also Sam & Max, and the Monkey Island games, and I'm sure there are more.

Unless "hidden object game" is a different genre than "point & click".

Not sure if Machinarium counts as part of this genre, but I think it does. Brilliant game, with a fantastic soundtrack as well.

OtherWhiteMeat5674d ago

Heard that Machinarium may be coming to the PSN.The game is pretty addictive.

My gf loves these games. Mystery Case Files are the king of these games.

Tuxmask555674d ago

I've played a number of these hidden object games and they have yet to fail to impress with how addictive they can be.

I found 'Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove' one of the most atmospheric games I've played in a long time.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing38d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9238d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit38d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing38d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9238d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
