Spawn Kill Community Voice #21 – Console Based Exclusive Content: Good or Bad?

As this gen of gaming continues, the trend of console exclusivity seems to be slowly fading in to the past. Key characters like Master Chief, Mario, and Nathan Drake will remain loyal to their respective consoles, but you’re seeing less and less console-exclusive games. Don’t forget the “exclusive” franchises that eventually break rank and end up multiplatform. Take Halo creators Bungie Studios for example. Since Halo 2, they’d been an Xbox 360 exclusive company, and yet now their recently inked partnership with Activision has them poised to appear on other consoles

Not good,not bad!!
It's EXCELLENT!!!

I actually would rather see something like this happen than the current practice of one console or the other getting the DLC while the others are left in the cold. As someone who owns all consoles, but who prefers one over the others, I hate having to decide if I want to get a game on a console I don't like as much because that one has the dlc versus getting it on my console of choice and having to miss out.

Would there be any point in having both an Xbox and a PS3 if there wasn't ANY exclusive content? Someone would have to cry uncle.

Drachaus5655d ago (Edited 5655d ago )

@Tigresa My issues isn't with having exclusive content, I just would like to see all consoles treated the same...but different. Separate but equal if you will.

I'm all for the 360 getting something that the PS3 doesn't, as long as the PS3 gets something comparable but different. Like I said in the article, there's money to be made if they offered console exclusive content for EACH console and not just for one. A perfect example on the smaller scale is pre-order bonuses. Depending on where you pre-order, you get different stuff. All the stuff is roughly the "same" value wise, but it's still store exclusive. Above all else, it's FAIR.

The point is we're not going to see Halo on PS3 or Mario on 360, and I don't think I'd want it that way. But why should the PS3 people get dlc for a multiplatform game and the PC and 360 people get left out or vice versa? I think offering everyone content that is unique to that platform makes more sense and keeps everyone happy.

idk how i feel about having all this special stuff on every console but i can see how companies want to try to boost PS3 sales by extra content.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle19d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree25d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde26d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
