Here we go again, everything MS does or releases is praised by it's fanboys lol! Why do i say this yous are geting all excited about a controller! Man i think they've been releasing them for years! As a techie, I can’t help but laugh at that statement because one of the many benefits of the Xenos GPU’s 10mb of embedded D-RAM is that it gives the 360 a fill rate of over 16 gigasamples per second using 4 x MS - Anti Aliasing at 720p. The catch here though; is that unlike the RSX, or any other traditional PC GPU; the Xenos GPU can achieve this with absolutely NO PERFORMANCE LOSS! Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the lowly PS3’s RSX…

The biggest enemy to graphics in the next-generation is resolution and (without going into the specifics of an entire console comparison) …developers for the PS3 will basically be forced to output at 720p – if they want to even have a hope in hell of matching the graphically fidelity of the 360.

Furthermore, 99% of all HD-TV’s that have been sold to date; cannot accept 1080p signals – even though they might claim to be able to display at a 1080p resolution. These “1080p” televisions essentially will take in a 1080i signal at 60 frames per second and “up convert” to 1080p by displaying all of the lines at once, at 30 frames per second. Obviously, HD-TV’s that can accept 1080p signals have (just recently) arrived on the market but unless you want a 70” – plus TV; or you are sitting way too close to your existing 720p HD-TV; the difference is really fairly minimal. Personally, I sit far enough back from my 52” HD-TV (i.e. the recommended distance) that I can honestly say that 1080p wouldn’t be worth the cost. Any ways, even if you do prefer a 1080p and are one of those people that claim that “there is such a big difference” – well do I have a shocker for you!

I guarantee you that a 720p signal with 4 x MSAA looks 100% better than a 1080p signal without any anti-aliasing at all – especially on BIG SCREEN HD-TV’s! On computers that statement doesn’t really hold true but on a big screen TV; it most certainly does and Microsoft knew this. So in the process of limiting game output on the 360 to 720p – you were also being essentially given a guarantee that: 1) there would be a minimum of 4 x MSAA; and 2) that developers wouldn’t be wasting unnecessary resources and sacrificing the graphical fidelity of the game.

Sony on the other hand; didn’t have the same luxury as Microsoft with their vastly inferior RSX GPU – so rather than doing nothing they decided that they really had nothing to lose by leaving it up to the developers to decide whether or not they output at 1080p. Meanwhile, their spinsters could take it and claim that the PS3 is more powerful than the 360 because obviously the number 1080 is greater than 720. A complete joke when you consider that most PS3 games will be in 720p and there is no guarantee if there will be any anti-aliasing at all!

At any rate, next time you see a “comparison sheet” that says “360 = 720p and Ps3 = 1080p” – you too can laugh at how unrepresentative that is to the actual situation and laugh at Sony fan boys claiming that that is proof that their console is more powerful. The lesson here is don’t take everything at face value!

Oh I can clear some of these rumors up.

Will shout how the add-on HDD drive makes the 360 the same price as the PS3. They forget to mention that IT IS OPTIONAL. I, for one, will wait to get a HD drive, just to see how the whole BLu-Ray, HD DVD thing turns out, and to hear reports of how good HD DVD movies look played on it through a 360. See, I have the luxury of doing this, people who buy the PS3 (either version) do not. So if HD DVD gets the most market share, PS3 owners are screwed. If the Blu-ray drives used in the PS3 are cheap and display a sub-standard picture, PS3 owners are screwed. Microsoft has said they will offer consumers "choice" all along, Sony takes "choice" away.
