ESPN Need A Reality Check

NextGN writes: "ESPN spent an entire segment of their show talking about a non-sports related video game, and why? Because basketball star Kobe Bryant had a few second cameo in the advert. Before I continue I would like you to take a look at the advert if you haven’t already seen it. I posted it below."

Kitchen_Sink5604d ago

Think they just did it for ratings. Black Ops is big news right now, why not start a controversial topic to boost ratings?

BrownRanger5604d ago

ESPN should report sports and not games. They made complete idiots of themselves in this show.

longcat5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

And yet if he had starred in a movie about war, nobody would have an issue.

What pisses me off is nobody at that table has even played the game.

FiLTHY ESKiMO5604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

@Pedrobear,

Exactly. I remember they blamed Doom for the Columbine school shooting. Said that the kids involved trained on that game. Doom? hahahah!

longcat5604d ago

^^^

Its either people accept that they are crappy parents and have failed their children

OR

Find someone else to blame

Guess which one they opt for?

Boody-Bandit5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

I was watching this show (1st and 10) when they debated this topic. Right after they were done they cut to commercial break and guess what commercial aired? Call of Duty Black Ops with a cameo from Kobe Bryant.

The people arguing over this very topic are getting paid by this commercial. <- Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Army_of_Darkness5603d ago

the old white dude was shocked to see kobe carry an assult riffle with a big smile on his face?!?!
whats so bad about that?! it's a video game commercial with everyone in it having fun you dumb cunnt!!

Boody-Bandit5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

The old dude you are referring to (Skip Bayless) isn't a gamer. I watch that show all the time and he has said on more than one occasion that he has never played video games. People that don't play video games and comment on them usually come off as idiots.

ESPN had several military people email and post on their site that not only did they not find it offensive but they enjoyed Kobe in the commercial and they love COD games. I play with a couple guys on my friends list that are in the military and a couple state troopers.

People need to simply SFTU about topics they don't understand. I am so tired of political correctness and the out right hypocrisy of these do gooders. They all need to buy a freaking clue and stick to what they know which usually isn't a whole lot of anything.

Hell most ESPN analyst don't know WTF they are talking about any way. The majority of them never played any sports. Yet they make a living givig their opinons on it. Most atheletes don't respect the lot of them because of that very reason. So why should us gamers give a damn what any non gamer has to say about gaming?

*puts soap box away and grabs controller*
All this talk about Black Ops makes me want to get my frag on.

see, this comming from a Marine... the article writer had it right, that commercial just shows that people of all walks of life are playing games, and should pick up this one.. THATS IT. I hate to sound harsh, but once the generational gap closes (the old ignorant people die) we will never see another problem regarding video games... YES our troops are at war, and in no way did this offend me, and i bet 95 percent of the troops that have seen real action, think its cool... Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors aren't wired like that, most of them play the frig*en game. I personally "got" the message of this commercial, and thought it was pretty awesome... of course, as to be expected, i don't speak for everyone...

I love this part:

"One last thing, why didn’t ESPN cry controversy with Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 commercial, ‘Fight Against Grenade Spammers’, starring Philadelphia’ Phillies’ pitcher, Cole Hammel? It seems as though using hate words to promote products is fine but as soon as we see an African American male with an assault riffle the line has been crossed?"

SpinalRemains1385604d ago (Edited 5604d ago )

Stop. It had nothing to do with him being a black man nearly as much as it does him being a superstar during NBA season. Not everything is black and white no matter how badly you want it that way. The guy is a rapist in our eyes before he's a black man, so get over yourself.

To those who disagree, you really feel this is a racist act? I truly feel sorry for you guys. To think that ESPN is racist is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Seriously it's up there.

FiLTHY ESKiMO5604d ago

Though I do agree with you it was still not necessary for them to attack Activision or Kobe for choosing to participate. If he wasn't a sports star would they have even mentioned this? Rapist or not, ESPN made a big deal out Of nothing.

SuggestionBoy5604d ago

I liked the commercial. Thought it was awesome.

SpinalRemains1385604d ago

Fleshy Eskimo

I totally agree. They were making news out of nothing. Merely because he's a star and they want him to be a role model. Holding an assault rifle during a time of conflict I guess is wrong to them.

In reality, he's promoting a fucking video game.

FiLTHY ESKiMO5603d ago

Fleshy Eskimo? You make me sound like a porn star :) As for the time of conflict? There's always going to be war - what do they want us to do, stop making war themed games? How about they stop writing war themed books, or making war themed films. Instead we should watch main stream media show us even more disturbing violence on the TV. :)

SpinalRemains1385603d ago

LOL! Im so sorry. I dont know why I read your name like that. Hope Freud was wrong or otherwise Im kinda gay. lol

Ape Escape.
Fun game but, wow, you need a college degree to understand the controls.
A remaster would also save you from having to constantly fight the camera.
Keep the music though. Those drum and bass tracks fit really well and haven't aged. Made me think that more games could work well with drum and bass tracks, but unfortunately it's a somewhat niche genre now.

Black ops 4, because it was the last cod of duty I was able to dominate with a +2 k/d ratio. Before all the freaking cheating started to happen. It was nice catching people off guard and shooting at them first and getting the kill. Unlike now, where I shoot people first, but they gun me down with less hits, less time, literally feels like they can kill me in a split second. At times, they are able to run away after me shooting them way more than necessary, yet, the second I'm spotted, I'm dead, there's no me running away to cover. They can do cartwheels, summersaults, backflips and gun you down perfectly. They can shoot you across the map with perfect accuracy. They can jump around like morons and gun you down without even having to correct their aim. They have superman split second perfect reactions. That's the best way to describe it, everything they do is spot on perfect. They can spam and spray (no praying) their gun from far away, because they have no recoil or bullet spread. It always feels like I have to aim and also correct my aim when moving around, while these pricks don't have to do the same.

And yes, I know how to play fps games. I dominated many fps games like: Resistance 1&2, kz 2&3, Socom, MAG, Crysis, Gotham City Impostors, blitz brigade etc. all with 2-4 k/d ratio. Kz2 (lag input controls) and resistance (no aim assist in resistance) being the hardest and were the games I reached either close to a 3 k/d ratio or above.

I truly got to enjoy blacks ops 4 and got my money's worth out of it. Afterwords, I would either stop playing cod games after a while, because of the cheating, or would skip buying cod games for a year or two before buying another.
