Activision May Offer Subscription for New Bungie Game, WoW, StarCraft II and All CoD, says Pachter

Although Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter previously shared in a research note some of his thoughts on Activision's possible plan to monetize online gaming, today he provided IndustryGamers further detail on the structure of such a plan. It should be noted that Activision hasn't officially ever said that they will start a subscription plan, although Bobby Kotick has certainly hinted at it.

Good luck with going out of business Activision. Either Pachter is an idiot or Kotick is. (Well, actually they both are.) The day I pay to play Black Ops online, is the day hell freezes over. ( I mean besides paying for the elite service that is Xbox Live, or all the value in PS Plus.... )

On second thought......

donniebaseball5537d ago

Well, not sure if you read the actual article, but the point is that Activision would still keep core gameplay free, but would offer "extra value" for subscribers

hamsterfist5537d ago

Free, for awhile you should be saying. As soon as their becomes a 'premium' charge, the service you are used to slowly degrades. This is nothing but an example of PURE GREED and fleecing consumers who already spend enough money to just play the game online.

Game $60
Xbox Live $60 (a year)
Internet $40 (A month)

So thats $180 just to play 'your' game. Get F.V.Cked if you think I am paying another $15 a month for any extra content.

Zydake5537d ago

Jesus christ i hate this guys face

aceitman5537d ago

if that happens then gamers must unite. the hell with the fanboy stuff ,gamers for life stick together. or other developers will follow just like the 15$ mappacks i have a feeling its going to go up too .

soundslike5537d ago

if you want to prove something to the companies start by never buying special editions at increased prices.

Remember when one of the halo games came out at 60 dollars for some version, and everyone said they'd never pay 60 bucks for a game?

yea...now its the standard

If people continuously tell the companies that they will dump 70, 80, even 100 dollars of their money into a game then they will seriously consider bumping up the cost of game REGARDLESS of "bonus content" like action figures, lunch boxes etc.

Dark_king5537d ago

@soundslike I been paying 60 bucks since PS1 for games.Hell Snes games ranged from 50 to 150 bucks.People paying for CE is not going to bring up price.

BakedGoods5537d ago

Yeah, dark_king is right. Game prices have been around $60 for decades, even during the NES days.

It's not the $60 price that's killing us. It's the:

"Hey, want to unlock content already on the disk? Sure, $10 please."

We bend over for that. Ever bought a DLC that was only 100kb in download size? Yeah, because it was already on the disk. You paid $10-$15 to *unlock* it.

That's the kind of crap we've got to make sure doesn't get out of control.

vhero5537d ago

Meh MS basically does the same but charge you to play every single 360 game via a subscription. Fools and money are easily parted ways as MS have proved.

VenomProject5537d ago

They won't go out of business. Do you know how many CoD-heads there are? People already willingly pay for WoW.

Mr. Kotick could get away with this retarded stunt EASILY.

avengers19785537d ago

my thoughts exactly, maybe there trying to go under. Well Activision I won't pay subscription fees to play online... So they could potentially lose this customer.

Actually i think activision is heading down that road already.

Nightshadow5537d ago

Seems to just be hearsay, no tangible insider information. Hate to say it though, but in the long run (from a profit point of view) Activision will clean up more money even if they lose a certain percentage of their customer base.

donniebaseball5537d ago

Yeah, in the long run I do see this happening and some will bitch and moan but A LOT of people will pay anyway

Convas5537d ago

See, now if this actually happens, Bungie will have screwed themselves over. I WILL not pay Bobby Filthy Kodick a cent on top of whatever I'm paying for Live.

Oh Bungie, at first I didn't think this Activision thing would be so bad, but now, with all these talks of subscriptions, I think you guys should've worked a little longer with EA.

vlad_5537d ago

I will completely quit playing activision games if they do this. It's already enough that we must pay 60 bucks for a single game and now they want me to pay for this? Kotick should STFU before his company goes broke because no gamers will pay for that BS.

zireno5537d ago

I do believe that they will implement some kind of fee for online play, I'm saying this because I saw a little message that was a little too suspicious for me. If you guys play CoD Black OPS in the multiplayer waiting screen they put little messages giving you stats about money spent, population killed etc, but there's one that states "Multiplayer: Free with every copy of COD:Black Ops" , I don't know about you, but that's pretty shady in my eyes.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

franwex51d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos51d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio51d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger51d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb240d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville239d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?

Obscure_Observer240d ago

Metaphor on Gamepass just announced! O.o

Seriously, this is the best generation of Xbox ever!!!

We can´t catch a freaking break from awesome games arriving all the time!!!

Deathdeliverer240d ago

It’s a HELL of a game. If you like JRPGs in the family of Persona, you will be in heaven… that is until you hear the various battle music…. then you’ll be somewhere BEYOND heaven!

babadivad239d ago

Just finished Clair Obscur. This should be fun.
