Digital pets have a certain advantage over real pets, but can they replace the companionship that people long for? GameZone takes a look at this comparison and gives its final verdict.

Since the beginning of time, man has sought to dominate the creatures of the wild, while children have tried their hardest to squish out their fuzziness. Owning a real animal requires time, patience and frequent carpet cleanings; while for the low price of $2.99 on Google Play and iOS and little heavy lifting, Microsoft Studios brings you an adorable (virtual) wild animal of your very own.

Cats and kittens are the fuel that keeps the Internet muttering “Aww,” and flooding every social media channel available with adorable, fluffy overload until Cute Induced Cardiac Arrest is the inevitable result. Everything is better with cats. The Earth itself knows this, as it allowed a huge rock to kill off all those ugly, scaly dinosaurs just to make way for cats. Unfortunately, it’s logistically impossible for cats to be everywhere, but that doesn’t mean we have to live with this situation. For example, when we get our hands on Unity in November, Arno and his band of Assassins will be stupid, regular old humans.
I really like this artcile very good!
yeah, give me a real pet any day. Funny that I like interacting with virtual humans so much (dragon age, etc.) but I couldn't care less about interacting with nintendogs or whatever
When I was little I had a tomagotchi and a supreme sumo(hook them to others and they fight). Ohh yeah, and my chao on my VMU too.
Nowadays Virtual pets are great for kids who cant handle owning a real pet like a hampster. I knew kids like taht when I was little, real retards who hopefully never have any children.
I can see the advantage of digital pets - too many kids make the "I'll walk him / clean him / otherwise look after him every day" promise and get bored after a month. A virtual pet would mean one less obese dog or hamster living in his own filth.
On the other hand a real pet can teach a child so much about responsibility and looking after another life. Plus they can be great fun.
