Was "I Wanna Be the Guy" too obvious for the list?

Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Ghost and Goblins...all of those games should be number 1.
The worst part is when you finish the game...you have to do it ALL over again.

Played Kid Icarus. Couldn't get past the third stage. It wasn't necessarily "hard" at that point, but those levels took fooooooooooreeeeeeeeveeeeeeer

I was never able to complete Fantastic Dizzy, I'd often get lost and end up accidentally drowning after falling into some water.

Some levels in Sonic 2 seemed near impossible when I was 7, especially the last sky base level, and then the Death Egg stage, that was just unfair, no rings!

Friday the 13th and Wizards and Warriors, definately.

Many NES platformers were not for the faint of heart. Kids today would cry at that level of difficulty, as developers seldom put in an easy mode. And if they did, it was still tough.

You guys are kidding me? TMNT was a little tricky but hard as hell? Bionic Command, Megaman and Castlevania 3. Now that was some controller breakingly hard platforming.

Wizards and Warriors was pull your hair out hard, but oh boy did I have fun figuring it out.

This list fails without Rayman and Earthworm Jim they are still 2 of hardest platformers of all time.

Where's the cel-shaded Prince of Persia? lol

The hardest platformers that they've ever played and they all happen to be Nintendo games. On an official Nintendo website.

Since it's a matter of opinion and those games are probably all relatively difficult (I know that Ghosts and Goblins is) there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. But it still seems a bit like writing an article about the most beautiful women in pop on The Corrs official website and managing to find a place for all of The Corrs. Including Jim.

Solomon's Key was a difficult platformer.

Creatures on the Commodore 64 has been mentioned and it did become difficult (the sequel Creatures 2: Torture Trouble was difficult from the start) but another Thalamus Game called Summer Camp was even more difficult.

The very first Dizzy game was incredibly difficult. It was possible to fall in to a pit from which there was no way of escaping nor of killing your character.

Viewtiful Joe on the Gamecube (and later on the PS2) was thankfully manageable for much of the game but there is a very difficult section called The Magnificent Five where you have to defeat 5 bosses in a row.

Donkey Kong 64 became difficult later on just because there was so much backtracking to do.

I found Mario 64 difficult because I couldn't work out what to do in some places.

They give you a 1000 lives to start with....Though that shouldn't say much for others. I'm not good with most platformers.
