Prepare yourself PS3-only owners, this is THE game of the year, just completed a 3rd time, and it gets better and better, and with insane amount of replay value

I would love this but I have played through ME1 and 2 8 times on the xbox

there no way im throwing all that away,

pneboy5662d ago

lbp2, kz3, socom 4, the last guardian and resistance 3 next year, im sure us ps3 owners will have better things to play

Blacktric5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

If you stop bragging about exclusive titles for a minute and play this potential game of the year candidate, I'm sure you'll change your mind.

SkyCrawler5662d ago

I'm excited about ps3's line-up too and prob getting all of em lol. but maybe you couldve worded that better, pneboy.

karl5662d ago

mass effect 2 is an awesome game in its own right

but in year where exclusives where lacking on both consoles

we cant say it had that much competition..

ill stick to GOW3 though

bananlol5662d ago

I dont wanna come of as a hater but to me me1 was clearly superior to the sequel. Shure me2 had better graphix and gameplay but it almost didnt andvance the main plot at all. Im not saying the side missions were bad or anything, on the contrary they were great, but compared to the main story i have no interest in them whatsoever. Now i can see why they wanted to use the second one to set up the stage for the third but it still feels cheap.

Oh, and i hope chices in me2 have more of an impact in the 3rd one, but i doubt it because financially it makes no sence to limit your potential market.

Philoctetes5662d ago

Sure, we have lots of stuff to play next year, but ME2 is absolutely on my must-play list.

Theoneneo815662d ago

I have mass effect 2 on pc and this is coming from a sony fanboy Mass effect 2 is fn awesome and will be a day 1 buy for me.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5662d ago

Doesn't matter what are the other games.

PS3 Owners will get a more complete experience of ME2 than any other platform in a single Blu ray disc.

frostypants5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

Don't be a fanboy. ME2 is awesome. I'd have waited for the PS3 version myself, but I wanted to import my ME1 save into it so I sprung for the 360 version (only $20, but less bonus stuff than the upcoming PS3 edition).

If you skip on it simply because it was on the 360 first, you're a fool. It's right up there with Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls in terms of my favorite games this gen.

@bananlol: I like the atmosphere of ME 2 a lot more. It's grittier and more believable, and the decisions you have to make are much grayer from a moral perspective. So what if it doesn't directly advance the plot of ME1? It has its own story that is related to those events, there are TONS of tie-ins to the original in terms of recurring characters and references, and it fleshes out the non-military aspects of the ME universe far better than the original managed to.

Killed4Less5662d ago

Alfa: The only thing you are getting is the convenience of having all the DLC on one disc. The content is the same except you have an interactive comic instead of a whole game that takes your decisions and imports them.

I love the convenience of all on one disc but you are actually not getting a better experience. Playing through ME1, making your choices and having them play out in ME2 is the best way to play it.

moparful995662d ago

Mass effect 2 was THE game that I almost bought a 360 for.. I used to spend hours at my friends house playing that game on the 360 and I loved it.. For months I wrestled with the decision of buying a 360, then came the huge announcement of the ps3 port and that made my mind up... Cannot wait for 2011.. Look at everything I get to play..

Mass effect 2
little big planet 2
killzone 3
shadow/ico collection
the last guardian
resistance 3
etc...

Barring any delays this is gonna be a huge year....

bananlol5662d ago

@frostypants
"So what if it doesn't directly advance the plot of ME1?" You know what made me1 so great for me and everyone else i know who played it? Its story is simply awesome. Maeby its just me but shouldnt you expext the story to continue in the sequel? I wanna know what the reapers are up to, not play some redundant "trust-me" missions. The only ones of these i liked were the ones for grunt and legion.

And "TONS of tie-ins "? I counted like 10.

No Way5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

It sounds like to me that you just play exclusives..
Do yourself a favor and pick it up, if you like RPGs.

N4Great5662d ago

TOo much good things, we have to make choice..

like 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and probably 2012..

Chubear5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

With no additional content just for the PS3 I am Not getting this year old game at 60bucks at all.

Not at all enough incentive when there are 3 NEW current PS3 exclusives flooding the market int he 1st 3months of the year.

It's a year old RPG game that was made a shooter with RPG elements to cater to the lowest denominator on instead of progressing what was built from ME1, an RPG with shooting elements.

Many PS3 gamers who have never played the game will pick this up cause of all the hype talk and be disappointed, all thinking "WTF?! THIS is is it? This is the mega ME2?!"

gillri5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

Chubear

its stats loving people like you that stop games from progressing from the D&D era,

you forget to mention the gameplay is ALOT better or the insane amount of characters you have to converse with...but nooooo... but teh stats!....teh dumbed down RPG elements!

IMO Mass effect 2 was dumbed up, whatever they took out pales in comparison to what they put in

Deus Ex, Mass effect 2, Shenmue....3 of the greatest games ever made

and guess what? they are all RPG hybrid's, and better because of it.

stats and number crunching means little in the pursuit of a cohesvie and engaging RPG

Blacktric5662d ago

Have a bubble gillri. You're one of the last of your kind. A "gamer" and not a bragger.

Baka-akaB5662d ago

Meh i've bought the game on 360 before , and will happily support it again on ps3 ... regardless of enough or not enough new content .

The game is that good imo , and let's not pretend most ps3 only owners didnt actually wish for the game to come .

wollie5662d ago

played both ME's and I agree, the second was dumbed down. I for one love RPGs, DnD, JRPGs, can't understand people who say stats are a bad thing. The first ME was the better game.

moparful995662d ago

No additional content? Are you kidding me? It comes with 3 downloadable episodes packe in! Also they leaked info about the mass effect 1 tie in.. Its going to be a interactive comic that allows you to make decisions and ultimately reach the conclusion of the first mass effect without dumping hours into the grinding that me1 had and it affects your me2 file.. Bioware is really going out of their way for us ps3 users thanks to EA.. I cannot wait for this game...

Croash5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

But damn, does it look good.
I've played the PC Demo 3 times (...) and really enjoyed it, and as you said, the replay value is insane so it is worth buying it as soon as it arrives (The DLCs make it an even better purchase).

It's really good that they're bringing this to the PS3.

Weirdly I'm glad they didn't port the first Mass Effect game, because if they had done it without changing anything at all, it would be an "inferior" version compared to its sequel (I'm talking about the changes they made, the improvements). Doesn't make it a bad game though and it's not like a game released in 2008 is old right now.

Oh and honestly, that Joystick award icon on the box, it's ugly. It's ruining the artwork, they should have made the icons smaller. Still the worst is that horrible white bar on the top showing off the DLCs, whose idea was that?!

Simon_Brezhnev5662d ago

Its an ok game and thats coming from because i dont usually like Sci-Fi/Space marine games.

PS360fanboy5662d ago

ME1 still is the best game I've palyed this generation.

ct035662d ago

One of the best games I've ever played.
Mass Effect 2 lightened up the RPG elements and epic storyline for more action but it's fairly good as well. I look forward to the third game.

thematrix12985662d ago

why would anyone pay $60 for a game that is an year old? EA, if you make a choice to go 1 year exclusive then shove this game in your arse and stop release it to PS3. We are not desperate for an old game. I'm talking as a gamer, I think 360 owners would feel the same if they get a game year later.

frostypants5662d ago

$60 for the game and all of the DLC plus a long-running interactive comic that takes you through the events of the original ME and lets you make all the decisions that ultimately impact how the ME2 universe will set itself up.

Yeah, HORRIBLE deal. (sarcasm there)

It would be a better deal at $40, but it's not ridiculous at $60.

FOXDIE5661d ago

played this one on the pc, just like the first one. Imo the first one is much much much better. Story wize as well as gameplay wize!

shepowy5662d ago

Can't wait to play this on the PS3! I never thought it would come to Sony's console to be honest but now that it is and the fact that i haven't played it yet makes this a day one purchase for me :)

NYC_Gamer5662d ago

franchises like this belong on all 3 platforms...

frostypants5662d ago

To be fair, on the Wii it would look like arse. ME and ME2 are big on environment and immersion.

Lykon5662d ago

i assume you mean pc ps3 and 360. although the wii could possibly handle a simple karting game with cartoon versions of mass effect characters or something....oooo rattle those nunchucks

gillri5662d ago

stats arent a bid thing, but they werent great in ME1 so why keep them? they were just excess baggage in relation to Mass effect universe

and wasnt ME1 was a better game, it had a better story and if you really do put that much emphasis on a good story, then you might think ME1 was better.

but overall it was not the better game......hence the lower scores

Baka-akaB5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

indeed . people pretends has if half the stats in me1 werent useless garbage most didnt put points into , except by error .

And act as if you couldnt distribute points at all in ME2 .

Bioware got rid of the excess bagage and useless . They just exagerated when it came to armors and looks .

You put me2's new infertace and fighting mechanics into me1 , and then ME1 is truly superior , because of an overall better plot .. otherwise not really

dirthurts5662d ago

You're going to enjoy this one. I'm glad it's finally making it over.

Akagi5662d ago

Did they ever state a reason as to why ME1 isn't getting a release on PS3? Has MS bought console exlusivity?

visualb5662d ago

and don't want to share.

so basically, reason PS3 gamers cant enjoy ME1 is because MS want to hold onto it (for no good reason really, its not like people will buy a 360 just for ME1)

so yea, bizarre but its the way it is

vhero5662d ago

I think it's just easier this way rather than porting 2 games and hoping they both sell. One game is far easier to sell than 2 from day 1. Then at the end of the year we will probably see ME3

biomajor095662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

Microspft published Mass Effect 1, while EA is publishing Mass effect 2 and 3. That is why Mass Effect 1 will never come to the ps3 unfortunately.

Akagi5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

Ah, ok! Thanks for the info! Bubs for all.

The Maxx5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

MS owns the Publishing rights to ME1. That is why.

Wow, they all answered pretty quickly.

@ visualb

You're being sarcastic....right?

gillri5662d ago (Edited 5662d ago )

@ pneboy

I dont think you understand just how good this game is, the only game there I would put in the same league as ME2 is The Last Guardian

thats looks awesome, the rest....? FPS Shooters vs a sci-fi epic with the most brilliantly realised universe in a videogame ever?

shooters can go balls when games like the Last Guardian and ME2 are around IMO

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast518d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine518d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast518d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman518d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast517d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave766d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan766d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
