Rumour: COD Black Ops multiplayer "subject to additional fee" states Wii box art

Nintendo Universe writes:

Those inquisitive enough to scour the retail box for the Wii edition of upcoming release Call of Duty: Black Ops will have noticed a slightly distressing statement in which a guideline reads “Online gaming is subject to an additional fee,”

Activision are greedy beeps £55RRP and fees to play online?!

JLeVRT5678d ago

I dont have (or want) a Wii... but im fuckin sick and tired of Activision's greed. They are already making MILLIONS, scratch that... BILLIONS of dollars and butt-faced Kotick wants more!?

If they charge for XBL (which we already fuckin pay for), im done with Activision.

P.S.
This is coming from a CoD fan for over 5 years. Fuck you Kotick

distorted_reality5678d ago (Edited 5678d ago )

@ JLeVRT

Yes, damn those companies wanting to make money!

I mean seriously, get over it. I'm sure that most of us would hate for a pay to play system with CoD, but the fact is the only reason CoD games are still being made is because they make money, and the only reason companies exist is to make money. I don't blame Activision for toying with the idea of going down that path, and I wouldn't blame them if they did end up going down that path (which will happen eventually).

I wouldn't buy the game myself, but lets face it - while overall player numbers would probably drop with a pay to play system, enough people will still buy the game and pay to play to make up the difference. It makes sense from a business point of view to do it. There's no point in raging at a company for doing what a company is supposed to do.

OT - the only other possibility I can think of is dedicated servers. I don't have a Wii so i'm not exactly sure if dedi's have been confirmed for that system, but I can't see there being many dedicated servers around for Wii MP games that are independent of game companies like other systems have. The extra online charge could be for "server maintenance". Although I must admit the DLC part is probably the more likely.

nickjkl5678d ago

except companys need to keep a balance between making money and keeping the consumer happy

activision is having problems with that lately

-Alpha5678d ago (Edited 5678d ago )

Read the damn article instead of jumping to conclusions:

"we can expect such a statement here to be more directed towards the release of future downloadable content."

This is exactly what I was thinking it would mean. Treyarch will introduce it heavily with map packs and such. This is probably not usual for Wii gamers.

It makes no sense to charge Wii gamers who are unaccustomed to online anyway.

shaggy72725678d ago

I find it highly unlikely that wii owners will pay for dlc, when they have never been asked to before (except for a few wiiware titles), but maybe thats just me.

JLeVRT5678d ago

@alpha-male22
I dont give a shit. The DLC will be over priced as hell anyway.

Havent you heard the rumors that Kotick wants to charge us to play CoD?

jay25678d ago

I did read it, the way Activision are acting, I think it's higly likely to be to play, or some pass or something for 2nd hand coppies.

Ducky5678d ago (Edited 5678d ago )

Haven't you heard the rumor that jumping to conclusions based rumors isn't a smart thing to do?

Anyways, it wasn't a rumor, it was an interview. All it said was they they were exploring different pricing systems.

The DLC was mostly on par with the maps-per-buck as most others. They cut corner by just releasing older maps, but meh.

shaggy72725678d ago

"It makes no sense to charge Wii gamers who are unaccustomed to online anyway"

hmmmm...nevermind. I'll save my breath

JeffGUNZ5677d ago

Relax people. Kotick already addressed the media a month or two prior stating that he WILL NOT charge additional fee to play COD online. What they will do is pump out map packs, zombie maps, dead op maps, and possibly single player expansions to make extra income.

nope more like your ISP price..

Anorexorcist5678d ago (Edited 5678d ago )

Why the hell is Activision taking to much to the Microsoft business model lately? Xbox-only gamers are going to be paying higher fees just to connect (higher Xbox Live fees) and just to play COD now. Ain't that but a b*tch!!

AKA5678d ago (Edited 5677d ago )

the EA sport games can be play by only one account online so if i active the code i can play and its normal ''ok'' but my brother can't and that is a fee to be pay even if i buy the game wich is a robe since is no need to do such a thing and is just a ''legal'' way to get extra cash.
btw i don't care about COD or ACT...

another example is MOH code, i have a friend that rent it but he can't play the two ''free'' maps and new mode and that hurt me and my experience, btw i got MOH 4 free with few trick i did and is a good game but the evil behind EA with their tricks is what i don't like.

and know SONY is doing the same with KILLZONE one of my fav IPs
in order to get the 2 old maps free i have to pro order or pay extra but sheeps from sony will not hate on it.

ps. i only own a ps3 and i like it and use it a lot but you fanboys and sheep are the reson on why they get away with dirty tricks.

simplyRealistic185678d ago

I see what you did there, lol

Anyway if they every tried that on the other 2 console, they are basically asking for the death of that franchise, I heard kotick want to do it

but i wonder, since they have that partnership with microsoft, will they make it free for live Gold, and make Psn player pay, that will be completely retarded,

Honestly, my interest for COD is at an all time low

Joostin5678d ago

No chance. They would lose close to 5 million users if they charged for online on PSN rather than both. This seems to be more about DLC than subscriptions for online...hopefully.

DaBadGuy5678d ago

I'm begging Kotick to charge both Live and PSN. That way there will be no divide, no questioning, no doubt from either side that Kotick's head should be on a silver platter. The PS3 and 360 crowd don't often agree on many things, but this seems to be universal. The shitstorm that would rain down on Activision would be astronomical.

THere's no way in hell I'm paying a sub subscription there is just no way. I know some people will but I like to think that the majority won't and then when CoD drops from the top of Live and PSN's most played list, Beelzebobby will be humbled and see the error of his ways.

That, or he'll charge everyone a fee just to play the game at all, multiplayer or single player.

I know the subscription isn't confirmed and this article is pretty much about map packs, but I'm just speaking hypothetically. IF such a subscription were to be put in place, all hell would break loose.

rebirthofcaos5678d ago

hope that this COD will not have fee, since it is more likely my first COD and the last one if they adda fee for the next one.

AstroZombie15678d ago

"Whilst less popular than its Xbox Live and PlayStation Network counterparts, Nintendo have never charged Wii users to play online"

Someone should really tell the dude that wrote this that PSN doesn't either.

simplyRealistic185678d ago

he never said it did, he's saying even tho it less popular, it never resorted to making player Pay to make up for the popularity

Seriously, try to understand the quote better , because another N4Ger would say you sound like a fanboy

GCNSeanFoster5678d ago

It just means for additional DLC... Black Ops for Wii will support future DLC (Map Packs)...

Motorola5678d ago

It probably does, they have confirmed multiple times, no additional pay

simplyRealistic185678d ago

we'll see how quickly that will change, if a large amount of Wii player actually pay for this, you know how much activision Loves their money

Seferoth755678d ago

Probably not as many as PSN or Live users will and if Activision isnt charging them yet I think Wii owners are safe so far.

Ape Escape.
Fun game but, wow, you need a college degree to understand the controls.
A remaster would also save you from having to constantly fight the camera.
Keep the music though. Those drum and bass tracks fit really well and haven't aged. Made me think that more games could work well with drum and bass tracks, but unfortunately it's a somewhat niche genre now.

Black ops 4, because it was the last cod of duty I was able to dominate with a +2 k/d ratio. Before all the freaking cheating started to happen. It was nice catching people off guard and shooting at them first and getting the kill. Unlike now, where I shoot people first, but they gun me down with less hits, less time, literally feels like they can kill me in a split second. At times, they are able to run away after me shooting them way more than necessary, yet, the second I'm spotted, I'm dead, there's no me running away to cover. They can do cartwheels, summersaults, backflips and gun you down perfectly. They can shoot you across the map with perfect accuracy. They can jump around like morons and gun you down without even having to correct their aim. They have superman split second perfect reactions. That's the best way to describe it, everything they do is spot on perfect. They can spam and spray (no praying) their gun from far away, because they have no recoil or bullet spread. It always feels like I have to aim and also correct my aim when moving around, while these pricks don't have to do the same.

And yes, I know how to play fps games. I dominated many fps games like: Resistance 1&2, kz 2&3, Socom, MAG, Crysis, Gotham City Impostors, blitz brigade etc. all with 2-4 k/d ratio. Kz2 (lag input controls) and resistance (no aim assist in resistance) being the hardest and were the games I reached either close to a 3 k/d ratio or above.

I truly got to enjoy blacks ops 4 and got my money's worth out of it. Afterwords, I would either stop playing cod games after a while, because of the cheating, or would skip buying cod games for a year or two before buying another.
