Hardware and processor manufacturer Marvell Technology, the guys apparently behind the Nintendo 3DS processors have said that one of their large customers have ordered massive quantities of a quad-core processor.

Not only that, even with this processor it wont be THAT much better then current HD consoles.

Government Cheese5679d ago

At least it will be affordable and still have the great first party games though.

EYEamNUMBER15679d ago

im not seeing anything in this article that would make me think this has anything to do with nintendos next console

Sarcasm5679d ago

What kind of Quad Core specs are we looking at here?

If it's something along the lines of at LEAST an AMD 975BE, then it may be a powerful CPU indeed.

But I doubt it.

Jamegohanssj55679d ago

Bravo bravo. Welcome to the next generation. Finally.

kaveti66165679d ago

I so very much hate that generational differences are judged by hardware power.

There's so much that Nintendo has done this gen that they didn't do last gen, and a lot of it has nothing to do with raw hardware power.

BrutallyBlunt5679d ago

I'm also big on innovation and think hardware power doesn't need to be front and center but Nintendo needs to offer a system relative to todays technology. It's hurting them in the HD era and the online functionality is also way behind.

A system that can keep up during the next generation will keep all players (competition) on their toes which is really a good thing for everyone.

blumatt5679d ago

Introducing the WiiD. Yeah, well I tried. But, the next Wii could be 3D, as in every game could support 3D gaming.

No FanS Land5679d ago

do you know how that name sounds when you speak it loud? the WiiD?

But I do like the Idea every game could be 3D.

DigitalAnalog5679d ago

That's some really strong shit, yo. Seriously man.

JLeVRT5679d ago

Havent we heard MULTIPLE times that the psp2 will go with quad core? Keep ur options open people. Dont jump the mario- i mean nintendo gun.

DatNJDom815679d ago

After selling more than the competition, I would hope nintendo's new system would be a beast. Can you imagine if Nintendo and Sony both release monster machines? I would be one broke mofo next gen. As of now Sony is just destroying the competition when it comes to quality.

i sense something strong in the force wonder what it could be hmmmmmmmmmm

zireno5679d ago

nintendo systems have never been extremely expensive, so in order to keep the cost down they have to sacrifice some stuff, even if the next console is "powerful" I really doubt that it will be on the same league as the playstation and the xbox, I can be wrong but I doubt it, that doesn't mean it wont be great or anything. Anyway, nintendo will have me by the balls 4 ever as long as they keep making cool mario and zelda games.

blumatt5679d ago

...with Nintendo. They keep recycling their games over and over again. Sony also recycles their games (but to a lesser extent), like Metal Gear Solid, God of War, or Gran Turismo. BUT, and I say but, Sony also innovates and comes out with intriguing new IPs like Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, and The Last Guardian. Nintendo just keeps playing the same tune every generation: Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. Same games, over and over again.

zireno5679d ago

yeah dude, I know u_u and it's a damn shame because if they really wanted they could make incredible new IPs, and that's precisely why nintendo in my eyes means just zelda, mario and just now donkey kong. When they release a new system I will buy it just for those games, basically nintendo is and will be my secondary console, I haven't played with my wii since galaxy 2, I will play with it when donkey kong releases, then it will be a pretty brick until zelda skyward sword.

Shok5679d ago

1)That's why Nintendo fans stick with Nintendo; because of the franchises. they buy Nintendo consoles for Mario Metroid and Zelda.

2)We get the same franchises, but a lot of games are so different to the point where it could be a new IP. Mario Galaxy is not that same as Sunshine and 64. Metroid Other M is not like the Prime games. Kirby Epic Yarn isn't like any of the Kirby games, see my point?

3) Why would they stop making these franchises when they continue to be some of the highest rated games of all time, like SMG 1 and 2?

4) These "recycled" games are higher-rated than these new Sony IPs. I'd rather have the same AAA franchise over and over again rather then new IPs don't aren't as good.

No FanS Land5679d ago (Edited 5679d ago )

I give props though to Nintendo to have the balls to stunt people and be the firsts trying uncertain products.

Trunkz5679d ago

Yep, and if they do something new - it will sell as good as the 3DS, and then Microsoft and Sony will probably follow years later.

I think the video game industry is all about learning from mistakes. Nintendo peed off their 3rd parties back in the 90s then released a cartridge-based console. They responded by not supporting the n64 and Nintendo had to fall back on their own stuff except there wasn't a lot of it on n64. They looked to rare for that and rare just didn't make the quality titles they were expected to. The people that did left rare for other companies. They tried to kiss and make up with the gamecube but by then nobody took them seriously and thought they were too kiddie friendly. The handle on the gamecube was not helped people change their minds about this.

But they surprised everybody with the wii and it took competitors four years to catch up. All the while they've had nothing but success in the portable market and those design philosophies were transferred over to their consoles. You better believe they are more concerned with iOS and Android than with the likes of Sony and MS. MS hasn't learned anything.. they think throwing money at anything will solve the problem. Yet despite an elaborate cirque du solei unveiling and celeb endorsement, you can walk in to any store right now and buy a kinect because nobody cares. Sony will draw out the PS3 just to make some money back and hopefully learn a lesson about all of it. Don't build a console with unproven developer unfriendly tech two times in a row. And don't price it out of the stratosphere. It helped them win the blu ray war I guess, but I doubt the financial gains there made up for the losses.

Nintendo has been around forever and they're pretty confident now. I will make the bold claim that they no longer consider Sony or Microsoft in competition and that shareholders for MS will force them to axe the unprofitable xbox division. Sony though, maybe they should kiss and make up with Nintendo instead of trying to compete unles they really can learn from the mistakes they made

Eu5679d ago (Edited 5679d ago )

Well...the PS2 was also a hard beast to crack at the beggining, and people said that, in comparison, it was harder to develop to PS2 at the beggining than to PS3...google it, I do remember reading this kind of comment in the web early this gen.

The greatest mistake, and maybe only one really, Sony commited this gen was the initial Price. But when you take what you werte buying (a PSone, a PS2 and a PS3 + the very best BD player and a multimedia recorder to boot) if wasnt as expensive as it seemed. And today the fanboys use the argumetn Sony been taking out the things it first offered...well MS always offered you POS hardware, and they always kkeped coming for more...

People like to think that Sony commited many mistakes, but forget that the media was so absurdly against it that most of these mistakes came out on biased statments that most of the times didnt make sense at all. Neve before a console and its company suffered this kind of attack.NEVER!

Your last clains have some point, but it problably never will be. While MS could really be forced to axe its gaming division, that problably wont be anymore - as much as the Kinect launch sell outs seens to be fallacy at best, the launch is sucessfull enough to give the X360 some breathing air , tough its main target now is the same as the Wii. Sony and Nintendo will never hold hands.. You seen to forget what made Sony enter the market. Nintendo in its tirany in the 90's betrayed Sony and went to Philips to make its CD reader. Sony reatliated keeping the project alive...it was called the PlayStation - both sides claim the other is the culprit, but the thing is: Nintendo ALWAYS controled its console content with iron fists (something its loyal fans seens to forget...they were basically killing the other developers in the 90's) making a new contender, Sony, were they had way more freedom with their games, to be the console to go.

In the end, what matters are the games. NO matter what the 'innovation' Wii brough this gen, without games it didnt matter. Look at what is happening today...3rd parties have basically abandoned the Wii for the great launches, keep there only the shovelware, while teh X360 and the PS3 are the main targets for such games. Thats Nintendo mistake, a recurring one that seens will never change.

I fail to see how this is AI shhhhlllloooop. Looking at the different games they showed, this has made many of them look far better.

isarai_lee60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

It's AI slop because it ignores the artists intent and changes the details ESPECIALLY when it comes to character faces. The scariest part of it is introducing it as the next stage of DLSS, a feature where the current iteration already has controversy surrounding it and for quite a lot of games cannot be fully disabled. So reasonably the precident is already set for what path this could take, and it's not good

blacktiger60d ago

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost and so on. Many of the lighting deletes shadow, including shadow on the face like eyes even chin.

Chard60d ago

Why stop at art when it comes to human input - why not just have AI play the game for us, remove human input altogether

theshizer60d ago

If you don’t like it, just don’t enable it. Personally I think it looks great from the videos I have seen.

isarai_lee60d ago

And what about when you can't? Cause there's plenty of games where you cannot fully disable dlss already, i mean we're well into an era where it's a major crutch for developers to cover up their cut corners, why would this be any different?

blacktiger60d ago

You are playing with people's money and allow Nvidia to scam you.

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost. This is all lie to raise the cost of the graphic card.

Andrew33660d ago

Making characters look more realistic not ok because we want the developer to decide on how the game was intended to look. - Internet

Change entire game through mods thus changing how the developers intended the game to be is ok. - Internet

isarai_lee60d ago

Something consumers can do to a product after they have purchased it, entirely optional and can always be undone with a fresh install

VS

The leading gaming hardware manufacturer making this the next iteration of the main AA/Upscaling technique that is heavily relied upod by modern devs and is not optional in most games.

Not at all the same but nice try

jwillj2k460d ago

At the moment you need 2 5090’s just to get an image on the screen so this is all vaporware until proven otherwise.

Andrew33660d ago

The good news is you can just not use it as well.

Christopher60d ago

It's all about choice in the end. But, I would say that calling it 'more realistic' is quite a stretch. It looks like AI art, and that's rarely realistic.

Urrakia3460d ago

All the comments I see are reminding me of how we got to the current state of gaming when microtransactions were first introduced: "It's completely optional guys, we promise! If you don't like it just don't buy it!"

I think we all know how that ended up.

Popsicle60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

I had the same exact thought the first time this was brought up in a separate article about a week ago. Took me straight back to the conversations surrounding “horse armor.” Just don’t buy it they said. Years later, many IPs I previously enjoyed are so infected with monetization schemes that I don’t even consider purchasing them anymore.

DLSS 5 and the like are the same thing wrapped in a different package. History rhymes but many of us never learn from it.

blacktiger60d ago

Biggest Scam. Overrides lighting and shadow. So why keep Ray tracing? It's all a scam to raise graphic card. We now see Nvidia with Microsoft downturn anything against them. Sony is next!
