Xbox Live Indies - Game Over?

The new Xbox 360 Dashboard update certainly has its good points (much faster caching of friends lists and game library) and its bad points (the primary school, dumbed down aesthetics), but the main point of contention I, and many others share, is; has Microsoft just killed off its Indie Games?

They should add the Indie games category where they have the "Arcade games" "Games on Demand" and "Game Demos."

Some of those indie games were really fun and I Indie developers continue to make more.

...I guess if devs. start feeling unwanted they may start to make PSN exclusive indie games and just forego the 360 altogether. Sony has proven that it supports variety in gaming (i.e., Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, The Last Guardian) Microsoft had better kiss indie developers' asses if they want their games to be published on the Live platform.

That makes no sense, Sony has nothing similar to Indie games on PSN, maybe Minis but it's not as developed as XNA is.

The benefits to using the XNA toolset (which is what XBLIG use) is you can easily deploy your game across multiple systems that are compatible with the library. That means you can make an Xbox 360 game and easily port it to the PC, Zune, Windows Mobile, etc.

And Indie devs already get a better royalty rate (70-30%) than XBLA developers do (30-70%, same with PSN IIRC).

FYI: Sony isn't as open as you think, just like Microsoft and Nintendo they pick and choose what they think will do well. Most recent example, Super Meat Boy.

i do not like the new look for some odd ass reason i get a Wii vibe off of it.

Shenanigans5686d ago

If it wasn't for WP7 I wouldn't have been surprised to see MS dump the XBLIGs altogether, but they don't want to burn the XNA bridge while trying to catch up on Apps.

There's no room for Indie games when you live in a Kinect world. Indie games don't service the Kinect and as Major Nelson said at the Time Square launch. MONEY IS THE FUTURE OF GAMING! I mean, Kinect is the future of gaming!

95% of those indie games are a waste of time and not worth the download. Plus, like Xbox Originals, no achievements is a major turn off for a lot of Xbox 360 gamers.

So Achievements or Trophies are more important than enjoying the game??

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
