Japan: PS3 sales down despite Move launch

Motion control titles have little
impact on hardware adoption as
PS3 sales were down in Japan during the week ended October 24, despite the launch of PlayStation Move on the 21 of the month.
Console sales were slow in general with every platform recording a
week-over-week decline according to Andriasang

I said the exact same thing here:
http://n4g.com/comments/red...

Funny how that comment garnered numerous disagrees when all I did was tell the same story as is posted in the above article.

Move seems to be shipping to existing Ps3 owners only.
Sadly and ironically, it is not 'moving' any additional ps3 skus at all.
That much is beyond dispute.

yeh this is epic fail

the ps3 is dominating in Japan and Worldwide even the USA is starting Move...

cry n spin all ya want move is evolution while kinect is nothing but smoke n mirrors.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5680d ago

rroded you do know the 360 is outselling the PS3 worldwide don't you?

Plus bubbles Shanks and the bias for the funny comment.

Jason 360: VGC told you that?

Longrod_Von_Hugendon5680d ago (Edited 5680d ago )

"Console sales were slow in general, with every platform recording a week-over-week decline, according to Andriasang."

So it's not PS3 specific. Ah OK.

Also look at the difference between PS3 and Xbox. Now before you say this is Japan and and they're an American company blah blah blah. Apple's iPhone/iPod/iPad/iMac/Macbook Pro seem to be dominating the consumer market over there.

PS3: 20,128 (22,201)

X360: 2,162 (2,342)

nnotdead5680d ago

i just like how this gen started on N4G with loads of 360 fanboys. soon it became a Sony fanboy dominated site, and now has turned into the console war forum of Gamespot. just a bunch of fanboys yelling"fanboy" at each other.

good times :)

DaTruth5680d ago (Edited 5680d ago )

PS3 is not selling additional consoles in spite of the Move controllers release in Japan.

So, Move isn't moving consoles in a country far, far away, with people I'll never play with online or in person.

Oh well! This didn't make my Move controller any less enjoyable!

Imperator5679d ago

@Jason 360

And we, the GAMERS, should care why? PS3 is still getting the most and best exclusives next year so I could really care less what sells more.

You can't have fun with sales... unless you're a 360 fanboy.

Can't you be satisfied that the 360 has it's own great games and accessories, or do you forever need to justify the size of your tiny D*(& ? - (it just ain't getting any bigger, is it?)

I am sorry for you that you are so miserable this is really what your life has become...attacking a GAME CONSOLE.

You are unworthy of the computing legacy of your name.

Do the world a favor...pick up a DS3, play a game of Uncharted...realize there's a broader world of gaming than the console you've made a cult out of.

should i as an owner of both a PS3/360

a) not give a ratass who's in 2nd or 3rd because i don't own stock
in either.

b) glad the the company in 3rd place is still giving me great games.

c) be pissed at the company in 2nd has decided to focus on causal's
creating more crappy games i don't care for while looking forward
to only ONE exclusive next year that i actually want to play.

d) laugh at the idiots who constantly argue about sales for no damn
reason.

e) all of the above.

bustamove5680d ago

WOW, JUST WOW.

The PS3 has been outselling the 360 in Japan since day one and you guys are rejoicing just because sales are down for now.

*shakes head and laughs*

DigitalAnalog5679d ago (Edited 5679d ago )

Because EVERY person who buys the move DOESN'T have a PS3. /s

I guess the 1.5 MOVE units sold in Europe also meant a 1.5 million increase in consoles...

/facepalm

Omega45680d ago

I didn't expect a big boost, but a decrease is just plain odd. Japan obviously had their motion controller fill with the Wii.

cliffbo5680d ago (Edited 5680d ago )

oh well, enjoy while you can. i wonder how many MOVEs sold though? i mean, we wouldn't want to overlook that now would we

BrianG5680d ago

Or another look would be they have their ps3's, since the article seems to be mainly focused on PS3 hardware sales.

That doesn't necessarily mean they haven't bought move.

And the decrease is odd as you would expect both move and hardware sales to go up. But as a marketing student I know there are more explanations for things like this than what seems obvious.

ct035680d ago

The point is that a new accessory should move (no pun intended) additional consoles. Create a bit of a sales spike.

This did not happen which may indicate that the Move controller does not create much of an incentive for people to buy a PS3 if they don't have one yet.

Bigpappy5680d ago

It will be very interesting to see how Kinect is received in Japan. I already explained why the Move will not sell consoles befire launch. I will not link to it or repeat it.

DJMarty5680d ago

More likely sue to hardware shortages, Sony even said they are ramping up production to meet demand. Ramping up production don't happen over night.

if moves fails what else have they got to compete with :O

360nPS3rTheSAME5680d ago (Edited 5680d ago )

it was a good decision in my opinion to identify the kinect with casual, fun and simple games. And the extra features are very innovative and just plain out cool. The more sony tries to pull move into the hardcore market the more I laugh because it's just not going to work while the kinect will shine as the fun family oriented entertainment that it's intended for and not being tacked on to games meant for a gamepad

LoveSpuds5680d ago

.....but I would rather Sony concentrate on core gamers rather than a load of 'family orientated' games.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle18d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7726d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga26d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199226d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga26d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman25d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box26d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion25d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7226d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7526d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit26d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14926d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7726d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
