Killzone 3 preview | GameDynamo

GameDynamo says, "I recently had the chance to play the much-anticipated Killzone 3 multiplayer beta on the PlayStation 3, as Sony was nice enough to give us a code to access it. Following in the bloody footsteps of 2009’s critically-acclaimed Killzone 2, Killzone 3 refines the multiplayer experience in many ways that makes the endless war between the ISA and the Helghast that much more fun."

As it is, Killzone 3 already is a solid game. I wonder what PlayStation Move will do for it...

cloudfights5602d ago

hmm... kz2 did have a bot mode, I don't know what that guy is talking about but over all a nice play by play article..looking forward to it more than ever

I believe bots were only available in the online multiplayer, rather than offline.

3rd Horizon Is Expected To Be A Long Ways Off, Majority Of Guerrilla Is Working On Hunters Gathering

The third mainline Horizon is expected to be a long ways off, as a majority of Guerrilla Games is working on Hunters Gathering.

What a waste of their time, it would be a lot different if it was a small team of theirs helping an external studio or something but to have this be one of the teams main games is just overall sad to hear.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we need Horizon 3 right now as I don't think there's much they could really do to make it stand out from Horizon II but I wanted to see a new IP from them to give the Horizon franchise some breathing space so when we did get Horizon 3 it would feel more fresh. Horizon II was a good game but you could tell when playing that it was just a sequel which felt like the main appeal was just being a more super refined version with a lot of quality of life improvements compared to the first game, even then it felt it was struggling at times to really stand out, maybe it was because it was a PS4/PS5 cross play title and didn't get to take advantage of the PS5 new tech who knows.

If this game flops, it's just going to give people more of an excuse online to hate on the franchise even more and might end up hurting the anticipation for Horizon 3. They were better off doing a new IP or a reboot of Killzone

JEECE17d ago

Exactly. Sony seems to be getting things exactly wrong with Horizon. It's the type of IP that needs to disappear for a few years and then come back with a third game that really feels like an evolution from 2, rather than just an iterative sequel, like 2 was from 1. It isn't the type of franchise that is going to support a ton of spinoffs.

Sircolby4517d ago (Edited 17d ago )

After watching that trailer...the chances of it flopping are pretty high. That trailer did not look good. Disappointing because I actually enjoy the Horizon series, but Hunters Gathering looks like it will miss the mark.

Eonjay17d ago

For the love of God... don't believe this. This whole story is engagement farming and is based on a one word tweet without context. The obsession with every whim of Jason Scherer is stupid.

Profchaos16d ago

The way Sony is trying to Disneyfy horizon is already hurting any interest I have in the franchise

I'm just hired of the whole thing now honestly it feels oversaturated even though we only have two mainline games

We have two live service games, a VR game a movie coming and remasters of the first game

I'm over it

Honestly, I can't say I mind this. Forbidden West was a good game but it didn't exactly leave me desperate for it's successor.

neutralgamer199217d ago

Horizon 3 will most likely be a launch window title for PS6

isarai_lee17d ago

Well I loved the first game, and while i acknowledge how much of a step up the second game, was it's insane! I absolutely did not like the second game from a gameplay standpoint. It seemed woefully unbalanced and a shocking amount of glitches that I'm surprised review sites did not report on.

But this series is a rare case of "just because it sells gangbusters, doesn't mean it's popular" like yes the mainline series sells a ton, but you wouldn't know looking at how it has failed to enter pop culture like God of War has. So trying to sell things by throwing it's name around just isn't going to work, the flop that was the lego game was proof enough of that, and this may be exhibit B for the same case.

I hope im wrong, i mean who doesn't want more fun games, but i just don't see it, and i hope their next game is a new IP cause otherwise it's gotta be so good it cleanses my pallet of the bad taste forbidden west left in my mouth

MayorPauline17d ago

Indeed. I glitched in between obstructions on more than one occasion. I also remember gliding for an extended period of time and the game abruptly blacked out for a few seconds. I thought it crashed but it came back on. That was on the PS4 version of the game.

isarai_lee16d ago

More than a few occasions i was getting trapped inside geometry and would have to fast travel or die to eacape, also had like 4 campfires i could not use because it would spawn me in the ground. Also has an issue where the longer my play session the worse the framerate would get till it was no bs like 3fps and i would have to restart the application which kinda sucks when you're in the middle of a loooong fight mid mission. I actually stopped playing for a few weeks until that specific problem got patched. This was all on the ps5 version for me

raWfodog17d ago

I had an excellent experience with Forbidden West because I didn’t play it until the complete edition released a year and half after the original release date. I’ve learned a long time that it’s best to wait until these big games are patched up because they almost always have bugs and glitches when they first release.

DivineHand12517d ago

I am confused. What was wrong with the Horizon 2 gameplay?

The focus of the game was to use the appropriate weapons to detatch craftable parts before killing the machine. This added a lot of challenge to the fights. They also revamped the melee system to allow alloy to do combos and special abilities were added that applied buffs.

Can you provide examples?

isarai_lee16d ago

Maybe they rebalanced it after the fact but playing through it at launch and the few months that followed, if you werent using corrosion/acid in the late game, you were getting your a$$ handed to you ESPECIALLY with the final boss fight. Literally had to load a previous save because i didn't have any major corrosion weapons for the final fight, and it wasn't an isolated incident as lots of people were online having the same experience. Also ran into more than a few enemies that just seemed to have crazy overpowered attacks for literally every situation like the Babboons and the shellsnappers, ESPECIALLY the shellsnappers that just spam the leap attack then burrow into the ground constantly giving little to no opportunity to target weak points.

The mellee ststem was fine except a few melee pit challenges, those got real stupid near the end getting one shot before i could even move after the timer.

-Foxtrot17d ago

I think the best way of looking at it is Sony seems to want to force the success as quick as possible rather than letting it happen naturally over a longer period of time.

God of War has been nurtured for a long time and even when the series started to get stale and over done (there was far too many games coming out) they paused long enough to softboot it with the 2018 God of War that lifted it straight back to the top.

Horizon hasn't been on that journey and even if you compare it to Killzone, a franchise where even by the release of Shadow Fall started to feel a little stale, has had more content (not just games) thrown out in 9 years since the first release compared to what Killzone had in the same period, Shadow Fall being the last game released in its 9th year.

JEECE16d ago

It's weird to think about, but the gap between God of War: Ascension and the 2018 Reboot was basically the same as the gap between the first two Horizon games (five years). I guess the fact that most people (including me) stopped at GOW 3 made it seem longer.

Profchaos16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Yeah there's a weird phenomenon where sometimes things sell because they are in the right time and place not because they are amazing and phenomenal successes in every aspect sometimes something needs to be just good enough

Horizon to me feels like the franchise especially 2that's just good enough in most regards Nd it came early in the ps5s life but you don't see a cult following like you do mass effect or the last of us most people are like ok cool that was fun enough and leave it at that

I actually think we will see a massive drop off for 3 because people will feel like it's crossed the bridge to being to much

JEECE16d ago

"sometimes things sell because they are in the right time and place"

In a way it feels like that is true for Horizon (particularly the second one), but the series is also notorious for launching near major competition. The first one launched right before BOTW (different platform, but it still resulted in a ton of comparisons), and the second one launched at almost the same time as Elden Ring.

Sony and Nintendo are both thriving and I'm happy, thank goodness for them or otherwise the whole gaming industry would be in shambles if they only had PC to rely on!

dveio21d ago

• Total G&NS revenue: 10.5 billion USD
• Operating profit: 900 million USD
• Hardware sales: 8M units shipped
• Software sales: 97M units
• PSN MAU: 132M

vs. Xbox:

• Total gaming revenue: 5.96 billion USD
• nothing else gets reported

__y2jb21d ago

Xbox operating costs are without a doubt eye wateringly high, way way way higher than Sony. GP is costing them an absolute fortune to operate.

Tapani20d ago

That is a very solid operating profit. It's not net, obviously, but still a very healthy amount of cash you make after cost of debt and taxes (+ other expenses), and can invest into R&D and future endeavours. And give back to your shareholders or buy back shares.

DivineHand12521d ago

It would be in Sony's beat interest to not rush next generation. Let 2029 or 2030 be the start of next generation. There is clearly plenty of demand for the PS5 and gamers are not asking for more at this time.

S2Killinit21d ago

Yup especially with the price of tech going up. They already have the PRO to hold them over.

__y2jb21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Exactly this. Let Xbox wither on the vine for a couple more years and there will be nothing left.

fr0sty21d ago

I fully agree for 2 reasons:

1. Microsoft seems to be in a hurry to release the new Xbox, if they do at all... AMD speculates a 2027 release. This will hurt them in the long run, because:

2. Datacenters are buying up ALL the RAM, and some RAM manufacturers have stopped making RAM for consumer products entirely, while the other remaining ones are scared to ramp up their production capacity to make more RAM because they're worried this whole AI thing is a bubble that is about to pop, and they don't want to be caught holding the bag when it does pop. So, for now, it costs $300-400 for 32GB of DDR5. That's the MSRP for some entire consoles.

If Microsoft drops the new Xbox now, it's going to cost them a fortune. If Sony holds their cards a moment and lets PS5 cook for a while, as it's showing no signs whatsoever of slowing down in sales, then by the time PS6 is ready to drop, RAM prices should have stabilized, allowing Sony to devote much more of their budget towards making PS6's CPU and GPU more powerful, in addition to the tech itself maturing and the available CPU and GPU parts being much more powerful for the same price point than they would be if released today. So, we'd get a super powerful PS6 in say, 2029, that won't have to cost $700-800. They speculate, based on the current specs, that the new Xbox will cost north of $1,000, and that was before the RAM shortage came into the picture. It's definitely going to be even higher now that RAM costs so much.

MS will be shooting themselves in the foot (again) if they try to drop a new Xbox now, and Sony would be wise to capitalize on that mistake by holding their cards a while longer, raking in more of those PS5 profits, and then dropping a new console as soon as the hardware market stabilizes from this AI datacenter BS.

darthv7221d ago

7 years is a hurry...? Its the same amount of time between XBO and series. The same amount of time between PS3 to PS4 and PS4 to PS5. The 360 was 8 years between it and XBO.

If they do release first, and then Sony a year or two later... is it not possible for prices to come down in that time?

repsahj21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I think Switch 2 beat PS5 during December 2025 that is why the gap decrease to 1m units. Because during black friday, I know PS5 sales is 2:1 against the Switch 2.

And I just want to add that the PlayStation 5 is currently 1.94 million units BEHIND the PlayStation 4 when you align launches. While Switch 2 is 10M ahead against the Switch 1 when you aligned covering it's first 7 months.

S2Killinit21d ago

I think you are forgetting to mention the chip shortages for PS5.

salis84421d ago (Edited 21d ago )

No one wants the Switch 2 to do badly.

PS5 being less than 2m behind PS4 is not a big deal; PS5 had to deal with COVID and ongoing supply and pricing struggles that clearly still exist today. Sales of software are incredibly strong, and the size of the community is bigger than its ever been.

PS5 is well on pace to exceed its early (2021) estimates of 110m by end of life even if that's 2027. PS5 will hit 100m before November and then sell another 6-8M in November + December.

PS5 is doing great, and so is Switch 2, it's good for everyone that they succeed, pitting the two against each other is more damaging than anything related to the sales of the two consoles individually.

repsahj21d ago

"No one wants the Switch 2 to do badly."

majority on this site tells otherwise.

Dexterio21d ago

@repsahj
Yup because they’ve been the anti consumer they are for so long and needs to be humbled 😆

CrashMania21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret my purchase a bit. I mainly bought it for Mario Kart World, but I find it pales in comparison to 8. I'm annoyed that Nintendo charged money for a super barebones 'upgrade' to Jamboree, no new minigames? No new boards? Just some gimmicky low res camera mode. Oh and Midtroid Prime 4 let me down as well, yet to go back and finish it.

I don't want the Switch 2 to fail, it's contributing to a healthier console market with the death of xbox consoles. I'll get use out of mine long term, but some of Nintendo's decisions like the ones above just annoy me lol.

jznrpg20d ago

@respahj the only thing I want Nintendo to badly is the 80$ games so they lower the price.

Sony Patents AI-Generated Podcasts Using PlayStation Character Voices

A new patent registered by Sony suggests the company is exploring the idea of personalized podcasts on PS5, hosted by PlayStation characters.

Eonjay22d ago

Okay this is actually really cool too. What is being proposed here is that the AI will generate you a podcast that is focused on the games tht you play or have wihlisted. This means you always get topic relevant to your tastes. Just don't screw it up with a bunch of ads.

PapaBop21d ago

AI is very cool, it's just all the real cool stuff is being drowned out by companies exploiting it as a marketing buzzword, generative AI slop and companies using it to cut corners and save money.

Sciurus_vulgaris21d ago

This is a terrible idea. Firstly the characters voices originate from real voice work. Secondly, the ai could end up saying questionable things. Thirdly, some voice actors use their regular voice when acting.

Juancho5121d ago

I know it's cool to hate AI, but we only hate AI because of idiots that misuse it or exploit it to take away peoples jobs. THIS is a GREAT application of AI, instead of having a human being voice actor sitting there for hours talking in character while having people writing scripts or coming up with topics etc, it can all just get POOFd into thin air and you can enjoy unique and entertaining content that harms no one.

PapaBop21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Not sure if intentionally being funny lol. isn't this like quite literally taking away people's jobs? I think SAG-AFTRA may disagree about this harming no one.,

Juancho5117d ago

The thing is that this isn't even something that's necessary to create as a job. Without AI it just wouldn't exist period, it wouldn't be worth the effort. So what I mean to say is, having AI utilize the voice actors (with their consent of course) to create unlimited "podcast-style" content is not only super lucrative (which people will call exploitation), but it creates an entire form of entertainment that requires a "Set it and forget it" mechanism where you don't have to babysit it or hire and fire or train or anything.

TLDR: Without AI this wouldn't even be considered at all, so I'd rather have this than not have it at all.

gold_drake21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

i hate this

i hate all of this. dont just use peoples voices for AI slob that u dont pay for
