Call of Duty: Black Ops… yes… it’s the BO again… but who wouldn’t want it? The release date is approaching, for those of you fresh out of hibernation, the biggest game this decade (according to several people) is coming on November 9th 2010. The game that has set a franchise record for the most pre-orders, read more about it in COD: Black Ops Sets Pre-Order Record, is yet to surprise us. Yes. And hopefully it ends the series.

Neckbear5698d ago

No. But I agree with you on this, darkcharizard: Hopefully it ends the series.

darkcharizard5698d ago

did we ever have an argument or something, that you're reacting like this?

Redrum0595696d ago

stupid title is stupid

end statement

Cevapi885696d ago

just when we thought the FPS was being over-saturated with the WWII era...the same is happening with modern war shooters...first CoD, then EA coming out with Bad Company and now MoH...im really waiting for one of these companies to change it up again and give us something fresh and different but in a realistic setting...how about actually creating storyline of WWIII occurring and giving us an in depth SP campaign...thats just me and i would buy that game in a heart beat

Bobbykotickrulesz5696d ago

I hope the series continues, and gets better.

BulletToothtony5696d ago

nope.. at least as far as sales.. MW3 will be the "biggest" game ever..

as far as one of the "best" games ever MGS4 holds "my" crown but uncharted 3 might steal it

I wouldn't want to series to end. But the series could take a few years break to improve the series.

princejb1345696d ago

improve how
its a shooting game what else should they add
thats like saying lets end all madden and nba games because they do the same thing every year with different roster

KillerPwned5696d ago

Biggest game ever no way but ends the series i hope so. At least until they can come up with something new and fresh.

Greatest game? no. greatest FPS? we'll see...

deadreckoning6665698d ago (Edited 5698d ago )

Well, I'm expecting it to be the best shooter I've played this gen. Never been this excited for a game in a while. With all the value and fan service Treyarch is giving us with Black Ops, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be the best game I've played this gen so far.

@darkcharizard- I agree. After Black Ops, they need to change the ENTIRE direction of the franchise.

@scar20- The same can be said for people who buy Madden and Smackdown vs. Raw games every year. We buy these things every year because we like them..who are you to judge? How would you feel if someone said that they feel sorry for you because you waste your time(and money) on videogames EVERY year?

"Greatest game ever!? NO! FUCK no! Why would this even be considered? The greatest game ever would have to be something we've never seen before, something new and fresh, and revolutionary for it's time. This automatically disqualifies Black Ops."

Excuse me...who the fuck are you to define what the greatest game ever should entail?? The greatest game ever IMO can doesn't need to be revolutionary, it can also be the greatest evolution of the genre.

For example, Uncharted 2 wasn't revolutionary...HOWEVER, it literally perfected the action/adventure genre. Excellent graphics, great voice acting, awesome gameplay, and incredible pacing. Again Uncharted 2 didn't revolutionize the genre...it EVOLVED the genre to a level never seen before, and for THIS reason it can very easily be considered one of the..if not THE greatest game ever.

MasterGuru5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

I hope Black Ops become as addictive as Modern Warfare 2! I have never been this crazy about a game before but then again, I am a FPS kinda guy. This happens to me every year to be honest, especially nearing COD releases.

But in all honesty, I don't think it'll be the best game ever with games like Uncharted 3 and Gran Turismo 5 coming up and not to mention Uncharted 2 staring at me from the shelves. :)

Greatest FPS? Maybe...but then again, Half Life or Counter Strike probably deserves that title. Even after 12 years, games like CS are still being played by a large audience, I can't really expect the same reception from COD especially because it releases EVERY single year.

Maybe it'll be the greatest online FPS ever. Maybe.

scar205698d ago

I feel sorry for all the people who bent over and gave kotick they're hard earned cash for a game that has minor updates every year.

Serjikal_Strike5698d ago

Looks at your avatar o_0 what were you saying again?

vickers5005697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

I feel sorry for all the people that think they are superior to other people for hating on what is popular.

If people are having fun playing these games which are only slightly different, then why would you feel sorry for them? Minor updates are plenty for some people.

CoD4, World at War and Modern Warfare 2 are all massively different games to me, because I cannot use a TAR21 assault rifle or intervention sniper in Call of Duty 4. I can't play the Favela or Skidrow maps in World at War. I can't use the m40 sniper rifle in MW2, and I can't attach a holographic sight to the weapons in CoD4 or WaW.

Different weapons are enough for me to make the game feel like a different game, just like new roster updates for football games or wrestling games are enough to make the game feel different for fans that buy those games.

I have fun with Call of Duty games, but according to you, I should feel bad for having fun while playing a game. Well f*ck you, you are the type of person that is ruining this industry with your selfish elitism. I love Call of Duty games (though MW2 did kind of suck, it was still fun at first before everybody discovered all the glitches and unbalanced tactics, but that didn't happen during my level up to 70, so that sh*t didn't affect me and I had fun with the game), and I also love many many other games as well.

I understand the hatred towards those people that ONLY play Call of Duty and don't try any other games, I do. That hatred is justified. But hatred towards people such as myself that PROBABLY buy more games (and a larger variety) than you do is unjust. There is only one genre of game I refuse to buy, and that is sports games (never really liked sports in real life so I don't think I'd like it in video games). I've bought the majority of underrated ps3 gems such as Valkyria Chronicles, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, inFamous (I bought this to play the actual game, not for the Uncharted 2 beta like most people only bought it for), and I plan on buying 3d Dot Game Heroes and Demon's Souls.

I tell you all that because there are a large majority of idiots that can't fathom that somebody who buys and likes those types of games can also like Call of Duty as well. Well guess what, we can, and we do.

Shoko5698d ago

Greatest game ever!? NO! FUCK no! Why would this even be considered? The greatest game ever would have to be something we've never seen before, something new and fresh, and revolutionary for it's time. This automatically disqualifies Black Ops.

-Alpha5698d ago (Edited 5698d ago )

"The greatest game ever would have to be something we've never seen before"

That's a pretty difficult standard to judge by.

In fact, the definition is pretty subjective. Many older games are considered the greatest for being classics, Mario for example.

Then there are games like Shadow of the Colossus or Grand Theft Auto III.

Let's face it, there are so many games that did so much for either the industry or that were so highly praised that it's impossible to crown one as the greatest. Most games these days do not do anything different.

However, I will agree with you that there really isn't much going to call Black Ops the greatest ever. I don't see anything particularly new, great, or anything that's leading the industry.

I generally try to avoid that phrasing, it's too ambiguous and problematic.

MasterGuru5697d ago (Edited 5697d ago )

"The greatest game ever would have to be something we've never seen before"

Well, using your logic, the greatest game ever should ONLY be from the first gen? Stop kidding yourself.

The word "Greatest" itself is very subjective.

I myself have been a long time gamer and I can proudly tell you that I have owned more than 400+ games in my lifetime and I can also tell you that from all that I've played, the best game would be San Andreas.

Would you agree with that? No. Would a lot of people agree with that? Probably. See what I mean? You cannot really define the "best" because it is all based on opinions and interests.

The "greatest" need not be something that revolutionizes, nor does it have to be "new and fresh" because if that's the case, a lot of people would still be playing first gen games since we humans do prefer the "best" options, am I right?

@Alpha

I have to agree with everything you said.

Anyway, where did the author say anything about "greatest" anyway? All he said was that it's shaping up to be the biggest game ever and I would have to agree with him on that.

despair5696d ago

yea its gonna out sell everything until the next COD game. I just don't see why I should buy this one for what I'm betting is a 4-5 hour campaign and MP that looks quite similar to something I've played 3 years ago with MW. Zombies don't interest me and if it did I'd play L4D2 so why should I buy Black Ops?

jmmurillo865698d ago

WTF? Can't you differentiate between "greatest" and "best-selling"?

I think it will be a good game, but far away from "the best ever", starting with its lack of originality. On the other hand, I think it will sell around MW2 figures, again.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex185d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos185d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio185d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.
