N4G is the website that helps super-size all these other, community driven websites.

http://n4g.com/news/628715/...

This is the article that Ted was upset about.

Basically the site misquoted/implied one thing while Ted meant another. It's come to the point that anything and everything posted by the media/game developers gets ruined by the community-driven amateur websites that tend to get a lot of attention because of N4G's ability to promote these sites.

All it takes is 10 approvals for a site to get onto the front page. All it takes is a guy running his website and at most 10 of his buddies to approve of his article. It's a very irresponsible means to get traffic on a site.

These sites are made up gamers just like us who have no real credentials to even run a gaming site (not that one even exists). They also get away without consequence most of the time. It's funny that we give so much power to these sites. They end up going all the way to guys like Ted.

It's also our faults for not reading articles or basing opinions on headlines without properly reading titles. Unfortunately this is what a majority seem to do, I myself am guilty of reading just headlines, though I try not to make an opinion of it without reading the whole thing first.

I think Ted's upset because he got painted as a little arrogant. He clarifies and gives props to the other Sony devs because in the original article he sounds like he is saying his team is the best, which would obviously paint him in a negative way.

It's true

I think 1 of every 30 posts on this gaming news site actually counts as gaming news. 1 of every 50 is a good read lol

“First and foremost, I think we have a world-class engine team,” Ted Price, Insomniac Games boss told EGM magazine in a recent interview. “In particular, they focus heavily on using the PS3′s SPUs more effectively (in my opinion) than anyone else in the business.”

Later adding: “However, we spent a lot of time going back and reworking systems we had just barely finished in time for the PS3 launch.

Whenever you have a chance to revisit tech, it’s a great opportunity to improve things,” Price continued, “basically everything got a facelift and it allowed us to do more with our visuals, audio and gameplay.”

It's way worse than 1-in-50 for good reads. I only see a few good reads a month around here. There probably won't be another one to come along after this for at least a week.

- - -

The thing that makes N4G thrive is ultimately its downfall. There is very little restriction to what gets submitted and approved around here. Users who continuously submit and approve nonsense are not punished, and sources that promote and rely on tabloidesque coverage of the industry are not blocked.

I think HHG is the perfect poster boy for this. He is N4G's monster. Created by this site, his videos consistently top the last one in absurdity and always receive swift approval by loyal lackeys moments after submission. Yet this has been going on for well over a year, maybe even two.

Edit - Looking back on the submission Ted Price is talking about, I'm not surprised at all about its source, GamesThirst. That also explains why Movements is here defending, since he runs that heap. I've wanted that site to be banned from here for a long time, and for awhile I thought they were. Malware warnings on the few occasions when I actually clicked the source leading there, and a constant "thirst" for twisting reality until it yields a nice headline for hitbaiting.

Immortal Kaim5685d ago

I knew it would be your pathetic excuse for a website. You should be ashamed of yourself, your site posts nothing but plagiarised, misquoted, flamebait cr*p.

-Alpha5685d ago (Edited 5685d ago )

@Movements

The article said "Insomniac: No One Can Handle the PS3 Like We Do"

Did he actually say that? I couldn't exactly find it in the article, maybe it was in the 7 page interview?

Ted says this: "The article extracted two sentences from a seven-page interview I had done with Tom Russo for EGM and used them to manufacture a story about Insomniac’s (and my) sense of self-superiority...Our goal is to make games people love, not to crow about how awesome we think we are.""

He wouldn't care, but he says the article got a lot of attention (no doubt because N4G helped it to, this is the double edge sword of this site after all).

Some N4G members in the comment section justified it by praising Insomniac. Others said that he forgot Naughty Dog, Zipper, Sucker Punch, etc.

He doesn't want to be seen the way the original article headline made him seem out to be. He felt like he was quote mined and I can understand why.

"Our goal is to make games people love, not to crow about how awesome we think we are, thats Epics job"

pangitkqb5685d ago

And he is right on all levels.

1) Game media should be more concerned with accuracy than hits.

2) World-wide Game Media need to focus on issues that matter to the health of the industry rather than fueling fanboy rants.

3) The level of Censorship Ted mentions is the opposite of Freedom of speech. The motion is un-American. Why is it okay to turn video games into a restricted commodity (aka tobacco, alcohol, gambling) and leave all other entertainment media (books, movies, television, etc...) free to produce as desired?

jack_burt0n5685d ago

ted is pissed that all the comments said yeah Naughty Dog and Guerilla can lmao!

joking, he is actually pissed because he has no power on n4g and aron greenburg can delete and edit whatever he likes.

Nothing like this existed during the Nintendo, Sega & Sony Era. There was honor among the Japanese. Microsoft brought this whole sensationalism & intrigue crap.

Soon this crap will end. Microsoft is going down.

the gaming media this generation has sunk to all new lows. it's rare that you actually get gaming news on this site.

MNicholas5684d ago (Edited 5684d ago )

you won't see Insomniac claiming they make the "definitive" FPS.

He does make a good point about censorship too.

The same idiots who are clamoring for censorship by the government to get the government to do what parents are supposed to do are the same ones who are clamoring for "smaller government."

Sadly, we live in a time when people are so stupid that they have both beliefs without realizing the contradiction.

despair5685d ago

I bet someone will make an article like "Ted Price attacks media, blames them for censorship law" or some crap like that.

Insomniac Games Has To Figure Out How to Break the 'Normal' Gameplay Loop in Marvel's Wolverine

For a mutant who can't die, how will Insomniac Games adjust the healing mechanic in Marvel's Wolverine?

Knocked out is still an option. So are being captured or restrained. Then there's potential for fatigue being a factor or just putting limits on how many times you can come back from healing quickly, making it also something you upgrade throughout the game.

Really not a hard thing to gamify, honestly. Just look at the last wolverine game.

StarcrossedBits223d ago

Yeah, this is very silly. Wolverine's not invincible and he can actually die anyway. This isn't the Superman problem. The 360/PS3 game handled it great.

Deadpool is another example. That guy literally can't die because Death won't take him. But they still figured out a way to make a game around him.

jambola223d ago

Probably just have a health bar, only a tiny minority will probably be bothered by "oh but adanced healing" nonsense
Injustice was successful, people didn't cry about superman being beaten by humans

Juancho51223d ago

Ive seen enough to know that whatever they do will focus heavily on insane combos and dismemberments and all kinds of cool shit we wish we'd seen years ago as wolverine fans.

This is in great hands, all open world games get stale, I'm sure this game is going to be GOTY contender because of the talent behind it, but I hope its doesn't fall into any traps that make the world feel empty or underutilized.

LFG tho!! EXCITED.

BlackCountryBob223d ago

Of all the things to worry about, this feels like the lowest ebb. I’d perhaps be more concerned about how they can find enough variety in the combat mechanics to stop a 10-12 hour game from becoming a bit samey, even if they get that main combat gameplay loop to be incredibly satisfying.

Obviously Wolverines claws will remain the main combat method, but thinking about how God of War benefited from (and differentiated itself from predecessor’s) by increased verticality in combat and also ranged attack mechanics, I’d be interested to see what Insomniac can come up with.

__SteakDeck__222d ago

Jean Gray will be playable for a portion of the game. That’s how they’re going to spice it up.
