Kristan Reed sits down with 4mm Games’ president Jamie King.
KR: The press have been making excitable noises about Def Jam Rapstar, but sales of music games are generally in decline. Aren’t you a little worried that this niche has already reached saturation point?
JK: No, Def Jam Rapstar is a complete breath of fresh air, and it’s going to reinvigorate the music genre. I think it’s going to surprise everyone with just how fun and viral it is.

Rockstar co-founder Jamie King reflects on the making of this iconic game, while industry professionals discuss its influence.

Eurogamer:
The developers responsible for 2010 music title Def Jam Rapstar are being sued by record label EMI for allegedly failing to clear the rights to tracks featured in the game.
hahahaha that's rich you would think all that stuff would be taken care of um I don't know before it launched lol
Contracts with music companies can be very detailed & difficult. Depending on the songs used, the music label may have rights to the song, but don't issue royalties to that artist anymore. & to deepen the situation, that artist can then request $, for the usage of the song. Not to mention the multiple artists that may be involved. Things like that would cost the music label $.
"& they don't want that,-Nooooo!"

But it could just be a case of "no, you can't use that song".
However;
Damn! 54 tracks? I thought maybe a handful or so.
That's heist.
Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for New York was and will always be a fan favorite arcade fighting game. Unfortunately, the next-gen sequel Def Jam Icon, was a failed attempt to repeat the success of the previous titles. It has been 5 years since any discussions about about further works with future titles. Then a mysterious trailer comes out of no where.
Yea, Def Jam Fight for New York is still one of my favorite games. This trailer gives me hope the franchise can make a comeback.
Wow that was an awesome trailer. Old though 11 months. Would think that we would hear more about it now.
