Move vs Kinect Software Comparison

PS3blog- By the time Microsoft’s Kinect hits retail Sony’s PlayStation Move will have been available for a little over a month in NA and EU ( it’s releasing this week in Japan ). Including retail and PSN games patched to support the peripheral, Move launched with a total of 15 Move compatible games. Today Microsoft has announced it’s lineup of 17 games for Kinect’s release. How does it stack up against what’s currently available on Move?

stonecold35691d ago

sony has more than 40 exclusives already backing the ps move

DelbertGrady5691d ago

More than 40 original Move exclusive titles? That's a lot. I wonder why they weren't in the list.

As of now I don't think either Move or Kinect have any 'must buy' titles. If I was to buy one of them I'd probably hold off for a year or so to see what more is in store software wise. Same as I do with most console launches. And as with other consoles we'll most likely see pretty big price drops for both around this time next year.

Move = QUALITY. games of different genre, casual and hardcore games

Kinect = QUANTITY. sports, fitness, dance, pew-pew-pew shooters and arm-flailing games

if only ms had spent as much on games as on advertising....

niceguywii605691d ago (Edited 5691d ago )

Made me bust a gut. Casuals will be more focused on software that was built from the ground up for said motion device. A company shouldn't even bother marketing a motion game unless it was designed from the ground up for the tech(not patched in motion support for traditional controller based games and design)

But I do disagree about Kinect not having must have games. Your Shape, Kinect Adventures and Dance Central are proving to be very popular and desired titles(AAA must have games)

lowcarb5691d ago

Oh does the spin ever stop guys? Seriously sheesh!

deadreckoning6665691d ago (Edited 5691d ago )

@Cratos- NEITHER Move or Kinect have that must-have Blockbuster game yet...so I don't know what the hell your talking about.

"Yeah but at least Move support will be offered for games like LBP2, Killzone 3, Socom4, infamous2, GT5 and so on. I am actually hoping that Sony makes more games like Kung Fu Live just to spite Kinect and prove that the PSeye can do the same thing."

Infamous 2 hasn't been confirmed to have Move support yet. The only two Move games that have intrigued me are Socom 4 and Sorcery. Neither of them are coming out this year. Dance Central for Kinect intrigues me as well. I don't know why theres a CONSTANT struggle on this site to pit Move and Kinect as competition. Don't know about anyone else...but I can EASILY see myself enjoying both for different reasons.

And the ongoing struggle of fanboys trying to prove which penis is slightly longer than 2 inches rages on....

"Kinect = QUANTITY. sports, fitness, dance, pew-pew-pew shooters and arm-flailing games"

It's true, there will be a lot of the same types of games with Kinect because the controls are limited to the same types of gestures and control schemes. You will see MANY dance games and MANY fitness games, don't get me wrong that isn't all kinect can do but it is something you will see a lot of.

@deadreckoning

@zootang

Nailed it. You put it into a perfect perspective.

zootang5691d ago

To me Kinect is just what the ipod is to games. An expensive mini game device that core gamers don't want.

jony_dols5691d ago

Killzone 3? Gran Turismo 5? Sorcery? Heavy Rain? Resident Evil 5?

stuna15691d ago

I disagree that casuals want games built from the ground up! Gamers in general want something that cost the least amount of money. On that note people would be surprised at the percentage of casuals that actually opted to get a ps3 earlier on for the media capabilities inherent in the ps3, instead of buying each media component separate which in turn would ultimately cost more. All casuals are not braindead consumers, most are pretty frugal to be honest.

OT: To be honest, the games made for kinect are for the most part too shallow! Once completed I don't see to many people going back to replay it's games.
The move also has shallow games! But because it has been shown to work across different genre it offer more variety, not just for the casuals, but for core gamers as well. Because it can be proficiently used in hardcore titles, as well we so aptly like to call them. It may yet be the moves main selling point.

@ niceguy,
"Casuals will be more focused on software that was built from the ground up for said motion device."
Do you really think casuals know the difference between games being built from the ground up for motion controls, because i dont.

Qui-Gon Jim5691d ago

They are not consoles, they are accessories. Barring prices and clearance sales, accessories generally don't go down in price unless they flop. Case in point: controllers for all three consoles are the same price now as when they launched. The PSEye is the same price now as when it launched (and sorry to say it, but other than its inclusion with Move, the PSEye was not exactly a raging success).

Yeah, but those are the current games available when it was launched Move.

Besides, the games for Move of this Month:

John Daly's ProStroke Golf
NBA 2K11
SingStar Dance
The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest
The Shoot
TV Superstars

And for November, like other 10 games more.

Time Crisis: Razing Storm (which includes 2 Full games for free, so add 2 games in the list).
The Fight: Lights Out
PlayStation Move Heroes
Tron Evolution
Dungeon Defenders (PSN)
And more

And for December, more bunch of games.

Ju5691d ago

I was wondering about that, too. Why compare what's out now with what will be out then. If at all, they should compare what will be out for Move when Kinect releases.

jden285691d ago

O.K. we all talk about M$oft being evil or wrong for spending money on marketing kinect to casuals...

We complain about not enough hardcore software for kinect at launch.

We say things like there is no replay value in kinect launch titles....

We have some how bought in to Sony's clevery designed paid bloggers idea of what kind of game is fun...

Look I don't know many people that don't enjoy either dancing themselves or watching somebody else dance "ULTIMATE REPLAY VALUE"
and with no crap in your hands and no buttons to push "ULTIMATE IMMERSION"

I don't know too many women that wouldn't love to get a virtual fitness trainer where ther were no buttons to push and it shows you your form vs. the correct form.

Look there are some things that by there very nature kinect will be better at than move or wii... i.e. things that are prohibative when things are in your hand alah dancing and excercise..

We have more hardcore titles coming next year on kinect and more original title coming on the move....

a patched game is not a good example of everthing move can do and very few titles on kinects first wave really show its potential so I just want to see what they can do with them in the next wave of software...So that both M$oft and Sony can stop Selling Dreams.

douchedebater5691d ago

Move games = Mostly patched games that were already release that had their controllers remapped to be move compatable which makes some of them cumbersome and somewhat akward.

Move's title numbers are being subsidized by several move ready games and not many MOVE designed games.

Kinect games = Games designed from the ground up to be kinect compatable.

I agree it's still a move compatable title, but lets call it what it is. You couldn't use move with pain, HR, RE5, or TW when they were first launched so technically they are not "Move" games because Move is not required. Can you play sports champions without move, that's what I thought, that's because sports champion is a "MOVE" game. MS could throw in a bunch of voice commands to a bunch of games and call them Kinect compatable too, but the PS3 crowd would call foul.

Anyway, just a question.

MURKERR5691d ago

i think sorcery and socom 4 will become that status, not sure about kinect ive seen nothing soo far that peaks any sort of interest..have to wait and see what the future holds

big_silky5691d ago

kinect wins due to having what amounts to a new panzer dragoon title.

ThatsGaming5691d ago

Re-releasing existing titles with Move or Kinect support should not be counted as launch titles. RE5, Heavy Rain, MAG, etc.

And Kinect is a lot more then just games. It is going to be large part of a dashboard upgrade and home video messaging tool.

Nicaragua5691d ago

PS3 has done video chat since launch and the camera to do it dosnt cost £129.99

Ju5691d ago

Why not? Move makes those titles a new experience. Or is it, because patching in is a bit hard for Kinect?

raztad5691d ago

I'm playing MAG with MOVE. How is MAG doesnt count? RE5 Gold Edition has been reported to be better with MOVE. It is next in my must-buy list.

MysticStrummer5691d ago

Move wins due to having far more potential to be used with a wide variety of games.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg581d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga580d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken580d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77581d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2581d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
