Surround Sound System for PS3 Available Next Week

Hi all! Back at E3, Sony had announced that Sony will be releasing an all-in-one Surround Sound System for the PS3 system with built-in subwoofer. A device made for the ultimate gamer, the Surround Sound System will be available as soon as next week in the U.S. and Canada. It’s perfect for use with games and Blu-ray movies and more importantly, is easy to use. I hate how much sound travels at night.

deadpoole5699d ago

I love sony products ... Sony Bravia Teles, Sony PS3, Sony PSP, Sony 5.1 sound system Z series, and can go on ... but this product hmmm Im still confused how 5.1ch will work with soundbar. Will it be able to give the same feelin which u get from complete system.

But then again before passin judgement Ill defi check it out at Local sony store. But my prev experience with soundbars werent satisfactory. Hopefully it'll be good enough to change my mind.

SuperStrokey11235699d ago

Just a silly question but whats the point of this? Isnt this a little bit late to teh party?

Baka-akaB5699d ago

the whole reason is quite already described , it's for "dummies" ... namely even easier to setup than other home theater (gotta wonder who can't install those on their own , however)

dalibor5699d ago

While the setup is easy lmao you have to consider that some rooms are to small for a full surround sound so this comes in handy for those people/environment. $180 isn't to bad. Hopefully it has the audio inputs so you can this bad boy to anything other than your PS3, if it's PS3 only that would suck. I like my speakers to be able to connect to anything I want, tv, bluray/dvd player, computer, ect. It makes it more useful and versatile.

SuperStrokey11235699d ago

Ok guys thanks for the answers. Sounds like its a niche product which is ok for sure. This should have come when the PS3 launched though rather tha 4 years later imo

kneon5699d ago

I might buy some of these. While my main PS3 is hooked up to a HTR with 7.1 surround, the others are not and there really isn't room to hook up a full surround sound system. So for $180 this is a good solution.

I'm sure it's no where near as good as a real multi speaker setup but when space is limited or you just can't run all those wires this will do.

plb5699d ago

$179.99 for those interested.

Neckbear5699d ago

I can find a better sound system for half of that, I bet.

DlocDaBudSmoka5699d ago (Edited 5699d ago )

home theater costs $150.00. this thing costs too much for not enough power. when things go boom in games, i want my floor to shake.

edit* i forgot my HT is 5.1

Boody-Bandit5699d ago (Edited 5699d ago )

You're not going to get your floor to shake for a $150 unless you are playing games in a phone booth or purchase a buttkicker gamer and attach it to the chair you're sitting on. But then you would only have tv sound to go with that buttkicker.

Personally. I would purchase a decent pair of headphones and a tactile transducer (Aura) if I wanted or had to go cheap. Thankfully I don't have to go cheap and I truly have sound systems and subs that can crack foundations of most homes.

Okay that is a slight exaggeration but I can rattle dishes in my kitchen cabinets and shake items off of my coffee table.

commander5698d ago (Edited 5698d ago )

@DlocDaBudSmoka

Rca is terrible company. IMO their right up their with Bose for shitty products.

Back on topic. Anyone interested in this deal I suggest you invest in a true 5.1 sound system. Soundbars are shit imo. The only reason why people settle for this is
a. they want to avoid the hassle of wiring up a sytem
b. they dont have the room.

Invest a $100 more into a real Sony home theatre kit.

Chris_TC5699d ago

It has what? A "built-in subwoofer"? Are you seriously kidding me?

A decent subwoofer needs two things:
1) Volume
2) Weight

This $180 cheese box has neither. $180 buys you maybe a half decent rear surround speaker.

AceofStaves5699d ago

That's the perfect option for me.

Boody-Bandit5699d ago (Edited 5699d ago )

Sound bars are cool for people that don't want a receiver, wires all over the place and or have room for 5 to 7 speakers and a sub or two.

Personally I would look into other soundbar options. You can probably pick up one online of better quality for just a bit more money. Sony makes great display, dvd, BluRay etc players but I would personally go in a different direction for speakers.

ballsofsteel5699d ago

my tv has an older version of virtual surround sound technology called S force and even on the TV speaker the surround sound is amazing.i remember playing countless hours of COD4 hearing footsteeps and know exactly where they were. people would always say that i was lagging or hacking it i would just tell them it good surround sound. the only thing it really lacked was range and base(obviously has it's part of the tv itself) but considering that base is built into this and its upgraded i would advice people to not easily pass this by i might get it if it has a decent price

Mmmkay5699d ago (Edited 5699d ago )

you can per definition NOT get good surround sound from two tv speakers.... virtual surround sounds like shit compared to the real deal.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8524d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele23d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk23d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay23d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit23d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg23d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10123d ago (Edited 23d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14923d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle36d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit36d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog37d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog37d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad37d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_37d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage37d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda36d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
