Darkness Sequel Still Planned, Top Cow Clearing Up Rights Issues

Today, Joystiq had a conversation with Top Cow sales and marketing director Adam Freeman, who said that a second game in the series is far from an impossibility.

Will Starbreeze be the developer again ? i really hope they are, they did a really good job on the first one.

Only problem I had with the original was the horrendous Tacked-On Multiplayer, it had potential but it was riddled with problems resulting in it being un-playable. I would rather them Not include a Multiplayer then have a troubled one, if multiplayer is to be included in the sequel I would say to have less problems and a mode were one player has the Darkness abilities and everyone else must fight him for the ability...

Quagmire5708d ago

I hope they also make anther chronicles of riddick game too

For me, this game was all about the single player and it was quite a ride. Very much looking forward to a sequel to this title.

BattleAxe5708d ago

I liked it except the multiplayer and the World War One levels.

Jaces5708d ago

I've been waiting for 2 since I beat the first all those years ago, game was such a blast. They can leave out the multiplayer in the sequel though, the first was horrendous.

jony_dols5707d ago

The first one was a great game.
Great presentation,voice acting and story.

And the best finale (in my opinion) this gen.

jay25708d ago

I hope this comes out buy xmas 2012.

"Love it, I get a PhD next May. I have 14 GCSE's, 3 A levels and a degree under my belt bud. So, you better re-define Moron."

You can't even spell "by". I smell a bit of bull, and it's coming from your claims...

WOMBLE625708d ago

You can 'buy' yourself a GCSE English retake you absolute cock.

Vinushka5708d ago

Hope they bring back Mike Patton to do the voice of the darkness.

OnlyTheTruth5708d ago

Agreed. One of the best voice over performances in recent years and a really cool guy to boot.

SexyPrawns5708d ago

Please!?!?!?

I loved The Darkness!

Urahara5708d ago

The only game I ever played where it is completely bright even in Darkness! They don't even know the meaning of Darkness and hopefully this horrible game won't get a sequel.

NarooN5707d ago

1) It was probably completely bright if you had your TV and the game's brightness maxed the fuck out.

2) Way to COMPLETELY miss the entire point of the fucking game.

This is why I don't buy video games anymore. I have a huge Steam backlog and developers are gracious enough to offer their products for free. Fortnite is free, Darkness is free, lots of good free games. Thanks Humble

Nice thanks for the heads up.

I had a blast with the 1st one. It was perfect. The 2nd not that much, was pretty forgettable tbh and the cell shading, although beautiful, was not my kind of tea

That said, if they make a 3rd one they should make it a bit closer to the original's...vibe and looks.

kevnb3112d ago

Its not even made by the same team, I hate when publishers do that.

veicht3111d ago

I still enjoyed 2, it still kept some of the neat things from the first one. Having said that, the first is considerably better, I'd rather the 3rd (somehow) end up being made by machine games which seems to be where a fair amount of the darkness/butchers bay devs ended up.

chris2353112d ago

are we talking switch ports again or why is another lastGen game in the headlines?

ctrlxthroat3111d ago

I'm still hoping for a pc rerelease of the original.

I personally enjoyed this one more than first game (even though I think first one is good too)

The Darkness: A Greek tragedy for the video game age - G4@Syfygames

Matt Ferguson from G4@Syfygames writes "When I think of tragic love stories and star-crossed lovers, I can't recall a more heart-wrenching example than Jackie Estacado and Jenny Romano from The Darkness. What begins as a romantic story between two people from very different worlds ends abruptly in a horrific tragedy, drawing many parallels from the works of Classical Greek tragedians and epic poets."

I agree! That was a great game with well played characters.

Kallisti3746d ago

Still own a copy of both of them. The Darkness III on PS4/PC/XONE would be awesome.
