SP mulling inFamous 2 mulitplayer

Multiplayer, PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D are all being considered for inFamous 2 - Sony's big PS3 exclusive for 2011.

Developer Sucker Punch has mentioned the possibility of 3D and Move support in the past, but this is the first time it's suggested multiplayer as a potential feature.

"Sony has a lot of great technologies: 3D, Move, multiplayer. We're looking into all of them," inFamous 2 designer Darren Bridges told a Eurogamer Expo 2010 audience today.

Not every damn game needs multiplayer!!!

Just put all the resources in the SP campaign. PLEASE.

Neckbear5729d ago

Please, fuck. I like my Single Player games.

I don't like a half-assed multiplayer. Hell, I don't even like online multiplayer in the first place when the game isn't designed for it.

Leave multiplayer to Team-Based FPS and Fighters.

Nothing else needs it.

zootang5729d ago

If it as good as Uncharted 2 multiplayer I'll say "yes please!"

AtatakaiSamurai5729d ago

sony exclusives have both high quality in sp and mp aspects of the game. you may not like one or the other but they both have high quality regardless so sony has long since proven ps3 gamers dont have to choose btw sp vs mp or gameplay vs grahics&physics&lighti ng& texturing

ps3 gamers get all of it.

Kleptic5729d ago (Edited 5729d ago )

I can't say I like this kind of stuff...but agreed, if it ends up like Uncharted 2...as the MP obviously did nothing to hurt the single player, and was actually a lot of fun too...then I don't care...

But killzone 3, and now Infamous 2: it worries me when the devs do this...as it takes a shit ton of work just to make a near perfect single player (and multiplayer in killzone 3's case) on its own...let alone when you start spending time and tons of money on mechanics for move and 3D support...

its an area where its marketing more than anything...and it sucks because we know Sony has to do it...because no one else will...no 3rd party is going to invest that much in the tech until it takes off...so now every big game is going to get tons of focus on things that don't apply to every player...namely move and 3D support...multiplayer is much broader, but still doesn't interest everyone...

but its too early to judge at this point...statistically tacking stuff on like this is never a good thing...but Uncharted 2 proved that the stereotype of adding multiplayer does not have to adversely effect the rest of the game...so hopefully it will be fine...

karl5729d ago

i agree, i dont like when games have to split resources...
but lest be honest guys.. no game with SP only will sell well
u can yell a few exceptions .. but thats what kids like today

and this awesome devs need to get their money back... besides i trust sucker punch .. the game will rock... MP or not

SuperM5729d ago

I honestly dont think move and 3d takes that much resources to implement. Im more concerned about the graphics taking a hit because the developers want to make the game in 3d. The motorstorm guys for instance is making the game 1080p for 2d so it will be able to run in 720p in 3d. The game would most likely look better (in 2d)if they skipped 3d and made it 720p with improved graphics. The same is probably true for KZ3 that if they skip 3d they could make it look better in 2d.

On the other hand, some time in the distant future im most likely gonna get a 3d tv, and it would probably be fun to put one of these titles back in the machine and get some 3d goodness.

As for multiplayer in infamous 2. If they can make it fun im all for it. The important thing is that Sucker Punch takes their time to make the game as good as possible, then they can add as many features as they want to and it wouldnt hurt a thing.

FACTUAL evidence5729d ago (Edited 5729d ago )

I couldn't even see the logic in an Infamous MP..........devs are just ruining themselves with this MP fiasco.

deadreckoning6665729d ago (Edited 5729d ago )

Infamous 2 doesn't need an MP mode in my eyes. Uncharted 3 and Arkham Asylum 2 will fill my third person action online multiplayer next year.

thedisagreefairy5729d ago

2 player coop would be badass. it worked for crackdown.

they could use the redesign of cole (the one they scrapped) as the 2nd player.

TheAwesomessMan5729d ago (Edited 5729d ago )

Multiplayer is not needed in inFamous2 nor could be incorporated in the game and how can co-op be done reasonably with using the same character. SP should just work on its single player. No multiplayer.

Edit: Like a couple others been saying if they make Mp to where we get to customize our own characters and abilities yeag that may work but coop idk

BrianC62345729d ago

"money.
without it..no Infamous 3. "

That's not true. This game will most likely do even better than the first game. Sucker Punch is small so the games aren't that expensive to make. Sony won't say no inFamous 3 just because 2 doesn't have multiplayer. If they want to make more off of the games they can always make some DLC. That's easier and probably makes more money.

SuperM5729d ago

I remember people were whining about how Uncharted didnt need multiplayer and that it would suck, not to mention all the concerns about the SP being downgraded because of MP.

We all know how that turned out.

I never doubtet that ND could pull of both a great MP and SP and i dont doubt that Sucker Punch can do it either. They have my blessing to do whatever they want because they know what they're doing

CaptainMarvelQ85729d ago

but Multiplayer can add a big amount of replayability
so i wouldn't mind having both

BlackTar1875729d ago

why put 1/2 assd stuff as a tack on. I mean look at all the crappy MP games there are because devs feel they must add it. No one plays 90% of the MP games that arnt built for MP. I know im a trophy whore and these stupid SP games that have a tacked on MP never have anyone in them to play with so the trophies become basically impossible.

nickjkl5729d ago

multiplayer adds alot of replayability

i dont think i would play cod single player enough times to fill up 12 days worth of time

or killzone 2 single player enough to fill 4 days of time

unless its an rpg which i put in on average 5 days of time

if done right multiplayer is good even a half assed multiplayer is good see minecraft its basically mine craft but with other people and it adds alot of replayability

Keith Olbermann5729d ago

Many people said the same about Uncharted and Arkham Asylum.

BlackTar1875729d ago (Edited 5729d ago )

I play a bunch of SP games that have tacked on MP that you cant even find games in or they are just terrible games.

Singularity,Bioshock2,Army of Two, Dead Rising although its fun takes forever to find games transformers is the exception i loved that online. RDR some may have liked but it got old really really quick.

There are many more i just am having a block right now since im at work.

Plese dont just disagree name me some good SP games that had a MP add-on that was not well received. I know UC2 was good. But to say well if its good is to easy of an answer because to many of them are bad so its kind of sacrificing a bunch of games for a shot in the dark esp. on games like BioShock were people dont care about MP they loved BS1 cuz of story and atmosphere.

TO me COD doesnt qualify the game is a FPS known for MP gameplay. THe COD stories are so short because the game is made for MP basically with SP added on. TO me at least i know the old ones didnt have MP on all of them or not that i could remember anyways.

DID Arkum have an online mode? or are you guys saying the new one? I platinum ed that game and i cant remember the online mode.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU--

Come on guys. Don't follow the trend, leave out the multiplayer!

princejb1345729d ago

as long as it doesnt ruin the sp experience i wouldnt mind
i remember before uncharted 2 came out ppl was whining about them adding multiplayer
and it came out to be a excellent multiplayer experience

Jaces5729d ago

But how are they going to do multiplayer with inFamous 2?

I mean I could see how easy it was to come up with a UC2 multiplayer but with inFamous all I can think of is a bunch of coles running around shooting lightning at each other...fun.

I agree that these guys would know what they were doing for online but I'd much rather have an amazing SP campaign.

nickjkl5729d ago

jaces a couple of modes

race using the city to reach destination

search and retrieve using the city to get objects while stopping the other team from scoring

i forgot the name of the game their was a mode where one person would be designated the boss in this case cole or some one else thats really strong and everyone else would have to take him down

free roam basiacally doing things around the city that you want to do while just hanging with friends its an open world game you should be able to make something up

assasination - two teams one attacking one defending a target designated either cpu or player controlled and if he dies depends on who wins and who loses

cpu vs player mission based mode where the cpu plays against player in missions

another game mode of having one team destroying the city and the other team trying to repair and save the city

etc to use youre imagination

Jaces5729d ago

Ok but is it going to be gangs or a bunch of cole's?

Either way I'm skeptical at best, as long as the online trophies aren't ridiculous then I'll be ok with it unless it lessens the focus on an awesome SP campaign.

thief5729d ago

Yes, but Uncharted 2 had a separate team working on multi which meant 1. a great multiplayer experience and 2. No impact on single player. In this case they might take away resources from single player and end up with a weak multiplayer

BrianC62345729d ago

Sucker Punch is going to make a great single player game no matter what. But adding multiplayer might cause a delay. I say no thanks on that if a delay is just to add multiplayer. I don't think the game needs it.

visualb5729d ago

wait until we see something before judging

people are going apesh*t over a word. =/

hazeblaze5729d ago

It doesn't take tons of money for Move support... technically it doesn't take much extra money to develop for 3D either, the visuals are just rendered differently. The only thing that might take more money is the design itself... but when you're designing a game from the ground up for 3D, I doubt this increases the spending much either... as game & level design are a regular part of development anyway.

BrianC62345729d ago

I agree. At least don't let multiplayer delay the game. Maybe they can make it DLC later if they want to add it. The first inFamous is great without multiplayer.

ico925729d ago

they should do what ND did, leave the multiplayer as an after thought and focus on polishing the SP

Apotheosize5729d ago

I'm not sure how this would work.

Jamie Foxx5729d ago

if its as good as uncharted MP then hell yes if not concentrate on SP,SP.

Keith Olbermann5729d ago

People should relax and watch. SP would not screw up their sp for a weak mp.

theonlylolking5729d ago

This game would probably have 8 vs 8 multiplayer matches with big maps to jumg around in. Does this game really need multiplayer? No. Does this game need co-op? No(it would be nice to fight waves of enemies with 8 peeps).

I want it too. Make it co-op as well.

-Foxtrot1111d ago

Yeah they had a lightning bolt in the shape of a question mark at the end of Infamous 2

They always went off the good ending for Cole so I think for Delsin it should be the bad ending

What he did in the bad ending, absorbing everyone’s powers, seemed like he was going to turn into something powerful.

Makes you feel like he could have been the real Beast and John was just an anomaly because of them messing with time

Sets up a Cole vs Delsin showdown

lukasmain1111d ago

How would fans feel about a reboot? You know to bring a new audience in? Not a good idea? Good idea?

anast1110d ago

Not a god idea. They let it sit for too long and the game hasn't been strong enough to carry itself all these years. There is so much other stuff out there right now.

masterfox1111d ago

Second Son was released in 2014 was an amazing game visually and gameplay wise, sometimes I play it again on the PS5 and seeing it run at 60 fps is something to behold(yes an almost 10 year old game), if you haven't done that on your PS5 try it you won't be disappointed, pure eye candy, a PS5 exclusive of Infamous would be amazing no doubt.

gold_drake1111d ago

meh, i want Cole to come back.

or maybe a reboot. with cole.

Older PlayStation games that we'd love to see on the PlayStation 5

From Xfire: "For a company with a three-decade-long history in gaming, Sony has done a crappy job at preserving its legacy. "

Flawlessmic1502d ago (Edited 1502d ago )

Welshy1501d ago

MGS, Silent Hill etc are no brainers, but you earned my thumbs up for our boi Croc. I talk about him all the time, it's an honour to find another man of culture.

Flawlessmic1501d ago (Edited 1501d ago )

RedDevils1501d ago (Edited 1501d ago )

If the PC can emulate the PS3, then for sure the PS5 would be able to do same. but dose Sony want it?

Mr Logic2164d ago

If there was money in it, then Sony would do it. People can bitch and moan all they want, but even if every person on this site used BC, that would still be a tiny fraction of gamers. Almost nobody really uses BC.

DethWish2164d ago (Edited 2164d ago )

I think there would be money if they made PS3 games downloadable through PSNow and added a bunch more.
Edit: I would get it if MGS4 was available

Mr Logic2164d ago

@DethWish

That would be an emulator. You're not making any sense.

DethWish2164d ago

Mr Logic, really? If PS5 could emulate PS3 games (BC) and PSNow would let you download and play PS3 games locally instead of streaming (like it lets you download PS4 games), wouldn't that be awesome? PSNow has some really interesting PS3 games, but I'd prefer to play them locally

MadLad2164d ago

Really?
Remasters of popular games do extremely well. MS basically hands them out for free. If people didn't want to play older games, then why do remasters sell so well?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2164d ago
anonymousfan2164d ago

I honestly would probably never ever use it... But I still think it would be pretty neat. Its one of the few avantages PC still has on console that is complete backwards compatibility. But for all the work needed to implement this I doubt it would be worth Sony's time.

Melankolis2164d ago

In my opinion.
The difference is independent emulator developer can build any emulator as an experiment that will be perfected for years, maybe more than 10 years. During that time, expect many glitch, bugs, and updates. They can do that because they do not have any obligation towards PC users or whatsoever.

Fos Sony, once they announce PS5 will be able to play PS3 games, they have to make it safe and playable for users. They do not want the emulator cause bricks, glitch, heating up or anything to the consoles and get sued for that.

Harkins17212164d ago

The amount of work it would require sony for each game probably isn't worth it. Maybe after rpcs3 is done they can patent it and use it. That's the dream lol

Any ps3 owner has too own this masterpiece . My disk drive has just gone on my old super slim . So I bought the digital version no questions ask . If you have a ps3 own this masterpiece that’s all I can say . I replay it every year and still find loads of enjoyment . The last true metal gear in my opinion . V was good and gameplay amazing , but it’s just not a metal gear quality story wise .
