Mass Effect PS3 Intro 'Module' Makes It 'Richer' - Bioware

BioWare founders Dr Ray Muzyka and Dr Greg Zeschuk have discussed how they intend to introduce PS3 players to the lore-heavy Mass Effect universe.

In a new interview with PSM3, the Muzyka and Zeschuck were asked what they were doing to bring PlayStation gamers up to date on the events of the first Mass Effect.

I hope its a playable sequence and not just a video of sorts.

That said, it could easily be a playanle sequence where players use the protagonist and play 'scenes' from the first game while having the core dialogue and story narratives voiced over game play. Sort of like a run down memory lane as if the guy is thinking about what happened in the past.

And who knows, maybe it'll involve actions/ choices that ultimately do the whole ME file save issue for Me2.

Of course, that is just me thinking of a possible cool scenario. Do not disappoint Bioware :)

Baka-akaB5709d ago

i expect a lil of both . At worst video sequences with pause for choices

hay5708d ago

I wouldn't be surpried if the intro sequence would be visually buffed up first Mass Effect.

StanLee5709d ago

I mean, what else are they gonna say? Anything playable will too closely resemble Mass Effect and you're threading on tricky legal ground. I suspect it will be similar to if you hadn't played Mass Effect before playing Mass Effect 2 on the XBox 360. Seriously, timed exclusivity does not work, this game should have been on the PS3 in January and concessions made then for not having the first on the platform.

rroded5709d ago

lets just hope its the first game in its entirety jus renamed for legal reasons ;)

Christopher5709d ago

I think it will involve some interaction. The more I hear them talk about it, the more I feel it will be what I wanted from the get-go when they announced this, which is a Choose Your Path story. This would allow new players to get a lot of info on the first game and give them a chance to set the choices that are available to new characters rather than just having the default option.

visualb5709d ago

playing ME on PC atm and enjoying it, I will know the characters and know my choices, regardless of how they do it.

+ bioware hardly disappoint, although I didn't really enjoy DA:O (personal taste, it felt like a poor mans baldur's gate) I trust bioware wholeheartedly.

@ skeptics - remember, these are THE DEVELOPERS OF THE FRANCHISE, if you haven't doubted them until now, no reason to do so all of the sudden

Nihilism5708d ago

Rofl, yeah an intro sequence is totally going to be richer than a 60hr game...one where you actually experience the events in their fullest.

PS3 It Only Does Game of the Year Quality Games.

Megaton5709d ago

Whatever the intro material is, it needs to allow you to toggle all/most of the decisions you make in ME1 that effect ME2 with a save transfer.

ElementX5709d ago

Won't happen. Due to the fact that throughout the game you work with specific characters and get to "know" them. How can you play a short intro and decide whether or not to kill a certain character based on an hour of play? What about the other scenarios? A toggle would be a poor way to implement it.

Megaton5709d ago

Better than nothing. I'd rather have the choice to kill Wrex than be told he's dead. I've played the game without importing, and after going back and doing it with my ME1 save, I wouldn't even touch it again unless I could import. The default ME2 playthrough assumes you made bad decisions.

The games are too integrated to just slap the sequel on the PS3 and call it a day. It cheapens the experience for all involved.

JustSomeLogic5709d ago (Edited 5709d ago )

But definately not richer than having played both ME and ME2, NO WAY NO HOW
I'm sorry, seems somebody believes it is possible that the intro is better and richer than the entire Mass Effect 1, please mr disagreer, explain

bustamove5709d ago

Maybe people are disagreeing because you're trolling.

You have no idea how the PS3 version will look like and already you're jumping to conclusions. You must be scared that this version may end up even better than the one on the 360 and the PC.

asyouburn5709d ago

bioware (who created all the content altogether) would have no idea how to present said information in a way to better help you enjoy the second. they should just get the creators of mass effect to build the intro. . . oh wait. . .

anast525d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine525d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast525d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman525d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast525d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan773d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave773d ago (Edited 773d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
