Ripten Review: Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360)

Dead Rising 2 continues the zombie slaying madness of the original, but this time takes the mayhem to Fortune City, Nevada. Inspired by Las Vegas, it’s a city that never sleeps, filled with booze, gambling, strippers and, well, infested with blood-hungry zombies.

Another good review for a good game.

If Dead Rising 2 would have just taken off the damn clock, it would be amazing. I don't like being rushed in games.

Nitrowolf25720d ago

i don't like the clock either, it would be nice if it just went with how many mission you did to be able to advance to the next day rather then how it is now. Great game still

CrzyFooL5720d ago

Yeah, but the timed missions add this crazy sense of urgency that you only find in Dead Rising. Like your heart literally starts to pound as that damn timer bar gets redder and there's 3,000 zombies between you and the goddamn safehouse door. I love that, and only Dead Rising gives me that feeling.

jaredhart5720d ago

Agreed...hate the clock.

ZombieAutopsy5720d ago

I hate the clock I think you should be able to play through on the second time without it at the very least, I agree with CrzyFooL though it does at the sense of urgency.

multipayer5719d ago

I think it just adds ridiculous OCD map planning, you'll see what I mean when you play coop... I'm tempted just to use the trainer, sense I'm playing on PC now, than I'd actually be able to enjoy the whole game in one playthrough. I really don't get any rewarding feeling from having good times in a sandbox hacknslash. I think I'm still stuck at the end of the first dead rising collecting bees from random drops in record time, that's fair...

I like the clock, and here's why: The clock creates a challenge and a sense of dread that you have little time before you fail the mission. You must form strategies and memorize the layout of the area to achieve the best possible outcome.

I don't believe outsiders to the Dead Rising franchise appreciate the importance of the clock and it's role in the series as the hard-core fans do, such as myself.

I agree that a free mode should be added after completing the game, and NO, not a 7 day survivor mode.

Everyone has a right to hate the clock but I don't think they should hate the game for delivering a said experience that it has its mind set on. The clock is just as important as the zombies, no clock = no fear <-- in a matter of speaking, of course.

BTW, playing Dead Rising 2 right now, and it's AWESOME!!!!! XD

aselah5720d ago

Killer game! Got to play it at Comic Con and was hooked!

wakash5720d ago

the clock is an important part of the game..without it, it wouldn't be the same. But i can see how some peeps wouldn't like it

Baltis5720d ago (Edited 5720d ago )

Biggest problem is you never have sense of fulfillment. You cannot clear out a section of Zombies. They always respawn. To me that's cheap. It'd have been much better had you been able to block off and quarantine certain areas. But hey, what do I know? I probably don't even have a Ps3 or this game. Or any games for that matter. Someone else is probably using the psn id I'd have been using if I had one too.

Yawn

ZombieAutopsy5720d ago (Edited 5720d ago )

I agree it kinds sucks they always spawn back especially since weapons degrade and break, but I can't take you seriously batlis if you hate gaming so much why would you come to N4G (unless you love trolling) I can understand not liking alot of games this gen especially if you're an older gamer but come on man you have less of a life than WoW players if you hate gaming but yet come to gaming news sites.

@below

I can see your point to where if you did kill every zombie before the time ran out it would be pretty boring so maybe an inbetween type thing where it takes so long for them to spawn back rather than just when you leave the area.

CrzyFooL5720d ago

Would be pretty funny if you could kill all the zombies then just wander around aimlessly. Oh wait, NO IT WOULDNT!!

You guys are nuts!! Bring em on!! They should have a zombie arcade mode where waves of zombies just come at you over and over and the game drops random weapons out of the sky for you to use to defend yourself. Come to think of it . . . that's a fucking awesome idea . . . I'm a genius!! :-p

ZombieAutopsy5720d ago

I like your idea though for a zombie arcade mode, funny thing is if they made it that's really all i'd play.

Over the last week, Jake has been going back to the Dead Rising 2 Off The Record remaster and has been an absolute blast. When he was 15 he first got his Xbox 360 and Dead Rising with it, it was unlike any other experience. It made him wonder though, what happened to the Dead Rising series.

Interesting timing. This retrospective was released just a few days ago: https://youtu.be/Et-cKSrWuc...

Darksonic222124d ago

Ah no, I just felt like writing it as I started playing the game again and wanted to offer up my opinions 😁

InklingGirl2124d ago

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title.

MadLad2124d ago

Complacency and new teams who didn't understand what made the series special.

Darksonic222124d ago

Seems like there was just a ton of infighting aswell and so many more issues. Honestly sadly Dead Rising 5 before it was cancelled sounded nothing like dead rising, nothing learnt from. Dr4 at all.

ColdSin2124d ago

DR4 should have not been made anyways. DR3 closed everything nicely.

darthv722124d ago

Check out the vid i posted above.

MadLad2124d ago

They're a solid channel. I always click on their vids, unless it's a series/game I simply have no interest in.

RamRod882124d ago

They took away the depth and charm of the game that made it fun and interesting, and made it into a generic zombie killing game.

DeadManMMX2124d ago

This was the series the got me to buy an Xbox 360. The first one was so good. It still had horror elements. As it went on it became kind of a parody. Never forget getting Zombie Genecider achievement and then restarting the game to get the Mega Buster. That thing was monstrous against enemies.

Gamerking822124d ago

But you never know it might be RISING again someday .

moriarty18892124d ago

haha yes it may....good one.

The paddle bat and string ball from Fallout should be considered too.

Chaos_Order2187d ago

I would've included Tira's ring blade from Soul Calibur.
