why this doesnt surprice me...

MrMccormo5716d ago

Hey, at least Microsoft listened to their fans. I don't think anyone in their right mind wanted a Kinect version of Forza.

5716d ago
Leathersoup5715d ago

Oh they'll be putting out a Kinect version of Forza a month or two down the road. Just as long as people are willing to go out an buy an entirely new game just because they've added some sort of new marketing deal.

Moentjers5715d ago

IF they listened to their fans, they would instead have supported development on new IP's.

JustSomeLogic5716d ago

If forza releases without kinect, sony fanboys will diss kinect till no end.
No pleasing them. Thing is forza ultimate never had anything to do with kinect. Forza 4 is what kinect was mentioned for, there's a difference.

Cevapi885716d ago

a racing sim in which you only use your arms to MOVE and STEER a vehicle...people will jump on that because that is not how you control a car...looking at the e3 videos of forza/kinect was just awkward imo....the fact that nobody stated that you could sit down while playing the game also is another reason that people went after the game...a steering wheel along with kinect would make things better...if Forza 4 does include kinect gameplay, it better be minimal...no gas pedals, and holding out your arms for hours on end can be tiring

if you think that will enhance your gameplay experience, then more power to you...

IHateYouFanboys5716d ago

umm you could play the forza demo sitting down, as it has nothing to do with your legs. you dont control accelerating or braking, just steering. why would you need to stand up to steer?

do i want to play forza with kinect steering? nope.
do i think it would be a good OPTION to have in forza? definitely. i know id be much happier letting my cousins/nephews/nieces/etc have a muck around with Forza like that rather than use my expensive little steering wheel/pedal setup.

what i want to see though, and its something that i think they'll do, is regular forza but with head tracking and chat via kinect. that i would like, as with the steering wheel youre unable to look around in the cockpit view in Forza.

the ultimate edition is clearly to combat Gran Turismo 5, and i think its a fairly good way of doing it, at very little cost to Microsoft. i just wish i didnt already have forza 3 so i could buy this, as the prices of all the DLC added up costs more than the price of the Ultimate Edition.

GamerSciz5716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

I was about to respond when I saw you only have 1 bubble. I wish there was a filter setup where users with "x" amount of bubbles and less I just don't see their comments.

OT: Forza Ultimate? Never even heard of it so I will do some research I guess but not expecting much after Forza 3 and Turn10's confident however very much cocky behavior.

Edit: Oh, Forza Ultimate is kind just the game + a big DLC pack including some new DLC with the Top Gear stuff.

boodybandit5716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

I got news for you JSL so would Forza fans!
I would vomit if Turn 10 included Kinect features on the sequel to Forza 3. This is the best news I have heard in weeks. I just hope it's true.

Oh btw, fanboys don't need a reason to bitch.
You just proved that.

GoldPS35716d ago

Not enough to compete with GT5. Still a nice game for you 360 gamers.

Skadoosh5716d ago

Still waiting for GT5 are you? LOL. Sucker.

GoldPS35716d ago

The most realist driving simulator of all time will be out in a month. I can wait.

saint_john_paul_ii5715d ago (Edited 5715d ago )

were are you going with this????

its coming out next month with shit loads of features that Forza doesnt have....

oh, i get it, U MAD...

boodybandit5716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

They are on different consoles.
Thankfully I own both consoles, am not a mindless fanboy and I hopefully will have Forza 3 completed (but not forgotten) before GT5 hits. I only have 11% of the event list to go.

GoldPS35716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

Yeah but MS is competing with it. That's what companies do. They compete with other companies best selling product. MS would love to have GT sales just as Sony would love to have Halo sales. I didn't say Forza 3 is bad. It just don't offers what GT5 offers.

Edit: @boodybandit
Forza 3 Ultimate Edition comes out this October. What that looks like to you? Looks like competition to me. Just a way to get some of that GT5 cash which is a smart business move by MS.

boodybandit5716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

The next Forza probably wont be out until 2012, late 2011 at the earliest. They are not directly competing with one another. If they were both coming out this year? I would see your point.

Either way it's a win win for me. I am a racing fanatic and I can't wait for GT5. Forza 3 has more than fed my need for speed this past year. Hopefully by the time I am through with GT5? The next Forza will be hitting retail.

Skadoosh5716d ago

I love my 360 and I love the Forza franchise but having your hands in mid air pretending to use a steering wheel is as stupid as it gets. I rather use my force feedback steering wheel.

Boody-Bandit5716d ago (Edited 5716d ago )

What wheel are you turning laps with?

bviperz5716d ago

I think racing fans on all platforms would have dissed Forza. It be the same as those scrolling car games where you dodge cars. The one's you get in your Happy Meals.

Forza Motorsport players slam devs for using 14 year old car model

Throughout its marketing campaign Forza Motorsport has been described as being “built from the ground up,” but some players are skeptical after discovering a reused car model that first appeared in Forza Motorsport 3.

Flawlessmic962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

yep been playing it all day and the newer car models look ok at best and the older models looks downright ugly and out place. im playing on pc at 4k with everything on ultra with dlls performance mode and the cars just look completey off, even the paints looks off, gt7 on ps5 shits on the car models here and its not even close, espcially paint and materials wise!!

its by no means a bad game but it is again another hype job from MS doesnt get close to living up to what it should be.

i genuinly thought this was gonna improve on GT7 in every way, when in fact at this in point after 10 hours the only thing i think is better is the standing start races as opposed to gt7s god awful chase the rabbit races starting 25 seconds behind.

the fuel and pit stop additions to forza are just surface level additions so they could say hey we did it, i am yet to see a meaningful incorporation of either one and the systems that would facilitate it being genuine are not there.

I cant control my power to fuel ratio during the race like i can in gt7, there is no timing hud for the whole grid, so i dont know how far ahead or behind i am or when drivers are pitting so i could plan my strategy, not that pitting is necesarry at all.

rain doesnt cause a slippery surface or aqua plaining nor does it tell you just how wet the track is like gt7 which informs you if inters or full wets are needed, no weather map, nothing.

its really just shinear version of previous forza, if you want proper sim racing where actual strategy comes in to play with longer races, with real pitt stops and having to manage your actual fuel effectively during the race then this game isnt it, go get gt7.

if you want a really simple and basic sim racer then this is for you.

majorly dissapointed, i thought this was the one game from MS that would hit all the right notes, in reality built from the ground up for next gen was a bullshit line and and its not even better than a cross gen game released a year and half ago.

MTRNYC962d ago

One big thing I feel makes GT7 so much better is that they surface mapped all the tracks so they have actual imperfections which means that sometimes the fastest path is slightly off the expected path because you have to avoid the imperfections to maintain traction.

GT7 is by far the more realistic racing game. It's kind of funny because they claim they reworked the whole driving and physics system to compete with GT Sport and Forza's not even close to as realistic as even GT Sport was and GT7 is way better than GT Sport.

Stanjara962d ago

Excellent write up.
I follow SuperGT and in the preview of the game he was not impressed with improvements.
Said it felt the same as FM7.

The whole time I was searching for ray tracing in race and it was not present.

Built from ground up my ass.

(Yes yes I know there is a performance mode and a visual mode I know)

P.s. You can choose your starting grid position. WTF is that in a sim race?

Flawlessmic962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

@mtrnyc

its all the little details, you see the track evolve in gt7 with the rubbers marks, and the marbles from the tyres start building up off the racing line on the side, you can actually see the tyre deformation when racing an f1 car for instance.

honestly, im actually shocked at how much better and more advanced gt7 is than this game, this is literally just a surface level sim racer, it would make a fantastic entry point for someone new to sim racers but my lord does it pale in comparison to gt7 where it counts

@stanjara

yep picking your starting spot is dumb AF for this type of game

dumahim962d ago

"there is no timing hud for the whole grid, so i dont know how far ahead or behind i am or when drivers are pitting so i could plan my strategy"

Wait, really? They don't have the distance or timing splits options for the HUD anymore that's been there from the start, after they add pit stops, when you'd really need something like that?

Flawlessmic962d ago

@dumahin

i will correct myself slightly just opened the game to see if it was option and you can turn it on for single player races, it was set to multiplayer only but again if the races were really gonna need it they wouldve had it set as on but no the races are like i said simple surface level sim racing.

but to answer the question correctly yes it actually does have the option, you just need to turn it on

Mr Logic962d ago

So...you're rendering at 1080p. Much wow

eagle21962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

And what about the loading times in Forza? They sure are super fast in Gran Turismo 7 (PS5). :)

outsider1624962d ago

"i genuinly thought this was gonna improve on GT7 in every way, when in fact at this in point after 10 hours the only thing i think is better is the standing start races as opposed to gt7s god awful chase the rabbit races starting 25 seconds behind."

This! I really hated this for every race it's always a running start and always last. And we all know the reason for that which is the bad ai.

962d ago
yeahokwhatever962d ago

"its by no means a bad game but it is again another hype job from MS doesn't get close to living up to what it should be" <-- Spot on. I've been playing since the second it launched and I'm a little disappointed too. You're totally right about the paint..its whacky how bad it is visually. I have pretty damn good hardware and the frame pacing is totally jacked up. I wanted a close-to-GT7 game on my PC, unfortunately Forza is the furthest from GT that its been. :-(

Reusing assets is ok, but 14yr old model, when it's a hero model? That's just lame.

MTRNYC962d ago

“built from the ground up,”

This isn't even the oldest models, they are recycling, there is stuff dating back to the 360 in the game.

Everything is all lies with these guys.

Enjoy the battle pass and the DLC to get cars and tracks in your live service b.s. game, meanwhile we'll be getting them for free in GT7.

outsider1624962d ago

Built from ground up for the Series S most probably. I mean that's 75% of the audience right there.

Father__Merrin962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

Forza motorsport doesn't have that traditional campaign but rather just tick box races. Most reviewers are omitting this

Flawlessmic962d ago (Edited 962d ago )

i dont mind how they have done it but, theres not a whole lot of content race wise which is a let down, and the car RPG thing sucks balls.

i unlock the same things in the same order everytime and make the same upgrades in the same order everytime.

rather than being able to look at the strengths and weakness of the car im using and put my credits into upgrading the weakess im stuck upgrading parts i dont really need cause thats all i can do and by the time i do unlock what i really wanted, lo and behold the 5 race series is over and its on to a new car to rinse and repeat my unlocking and applying my upgrades

IRetrouk962d ago

I remember this being a massive negative for another game a couple gens ago👀

dumahim962d ago

On one hand, that was kind of a bigger deal since the old models didn't have an interior so it was all just a black silhouette inside. But on the other hand, they made no claims that it was built from the ground up and were clear there were premium models that did have the full interior and some without.

IRetrouk962d ago

I agree, it was jarring and not needed in my opinion, but it didn't make the game bad or worse, yet that was the impression around here at the time if you remember.

yeahokwhatever962d ago

i uh....liked the black interiors. I got the perspective without the distraction. I wish it was an option.

Joy Ride Turbo - The Beginning of the End for Xbox Kinect

10 of the Biggest Video Game Hardware Failures Ever

Cultured Vultures: "Sadly, not all hardware is created equal, and no matter how much developers might try, some gaming hardware just fails to hit the mark. We’ve compiled a list of 10 gaming hardware fails, and boy did some fail hard."

Knightofelemia1585d ago

I would label the Power Glove, Kinect, and that Tony Hawk skateboard more as hardware addons hardware failure would be like the Virtual Boy and one day Stadia.

Magog1584d ago

Kinect was bundled with every Xbox One and inflated the price on an already underpowered and low RAM machine so for the One it wasn't an accessory as much as a white elephant.

CaptainHenry9161584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

Definitely the RROD but that power glove had a lot of issues as well. The Kinect just didn't work

1584d ago
CrimsonWing691584d ago

Hardware add-ons are more like RAM or a video card, basically components that enhance capabilities or performance of the computer.

If you really want to get technical the Kinect is more of a peripheral device, kind of like a keyboard or mouse to a computer.

ThatsGaming1584d ago

The person in this article obviously is not up on their gaming history....

Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Coleco Gemini, Commodore 128, Commodore Amiga, Atari 5200, Atari 7800 were all massive failures and in most cases cost their companies participating in future gaming generations.

Gamer791584d ago

Sega saturn (successful in Japan) and dreamcast were not failures.
Seems like you're not up on you're gaming history

septemberindecember1584d ago

@Gamer79

How in the world are the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast not seen as failures? They both sold around 8M each, which is much lower than the ~30M that the Genesis had sold before it, and even the Master System before that. They were both the worst selling consoles in their respective generation (PS1, N64 outsold Saturn, PS2, GC, and Xbox outsold Dreamcast). Both of the consoles were incredibly short lived. The Saturn was discontinued in every territory but Japan after just three years. In Japan the console was discontinued after six years. Meanwhile the Dreamcast was discontinued worldwide in 2001 after launching in most territories in 1999 and in Japan in 1998. The failure of the Saturn and Dreamcast lead to Sega pulling out of the hardware market. Which, by the way, all of this occurred when Sega was massively dropping the price of their consoles quickly to compete. Sega was hemorrhaging money at this point.

None of this indicates a successful console. Saying the Saturn was a success because it did better in Japan is like saying the Vita is a success (they both sold around the same amount of units in Japan). Even the Wii U outsold these consoles worldwide.

Magog1584d ago

The picture should be the 360 RROD. When I think of gaming hardware failures that's what springs to mind. Kinect and it's bundled price tag definitely hobbled the already underpowered Xbox One though for sure so I would give it a close second place.

porkChop1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

That's not what the author means by failures. It's about hardware that failed in terms of sales (Wii U) or just failed to deliver on its promise (Kinect).

Magog1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

Given that the 360 had a year head start, much easier hardware to develop for, was cheaper, and still ended up in third place I think it qualifies especially when you factor in the frustration and huge losses incurred by RROD.

porkChop1584d ago

Selling over 80 million consoles isn't a sales flop. We get it, you don't like Xbox, but that doesn't mean the 360 is suddenly a failure.

Rhythmattic1583d ago

Porky....
You know how many people I know bought a 2nd or third 360 due to RROD? Even when MS had to confront the issue with replacement systems, my mates couldn't wait for even the turnaround of sending it in, and waiting for a replacement.,,..,..
If that's how you consider it a win... OK.. but so is having 5 , of which 3 don't function.... Its a win win....mwhahahahaha

porkChop1583d ago

"my mates couldn't wait for even the turnaround of sending it in"

You're acting like it would take months. When I sent my 360 in I got a new one literally 5 days later. As soon as MS had tracking confirmation that you sent yours, they'd send a new one to you the same day. No one is going to spend hundreds to buy a new console instead of waiting a week. I swear you guys pull some of the dumbest shit out of nowhere and think people will actually believe it.

Regardless, none of this changes the fact that this isn't what the article is even about.

Rhythmattic1583d ago (Edited 1583d ago )

Porky
"You're acting like it would take months"
Sometimes it could.. FFS.. 'Strya here...
Best turnaround I reckon was 2-3 weeks.....
Either way, My mates experiences still exist.. So Sorry, no point trying to earn Xbox Achievements when it doesn't feature in what was a situation you never dealt with,,,,
3 of my friends would disagree (overall, 10 extra Xboxes purchased)
Regardless.. MS sold a lot of 360's that was due to this reason.. That is sales. Fact

"none of this changes the fact that this isn't what the article is even about."
Headline says HELLO !
Oh and "Sadly, not all hardware is created equal," that's enough to pass this on without taking your article bias into consideration.....
As for the rest.... Ok.. But you've actually gone out of your way to give MS a Pass... Fap on.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 1583d ago
Aloymetal1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

Yup, and because of that big fiasco MS had to fork out 1 billion but knowing them I think they're very proud of the 360, it's the only time a MS console reached 80mil+ sales, RROD played a big part of that and a record they will never break again.

Rhythmattic1583d ago (Edited 1583d ago )

So true.. Even when MS accepted they where caught out in the biggest lie of any generation, The wait for a replacement was outweighed by just buying another, and having one be returned as a backup, which, btw, generally failed on first swap.
I own honestly can't believe MS tards are just supporting , or arguing why and what MS did by just dismissing it....

lonewolf101584d ago

Lol I had the Atari Jaguar, surprised its "competition" the 3DO isn't on the list too, both as "popular" as each other.

SullysCigar1584d ago

Lol same. Played the crap out of Aliens Vs Predator and Tempest 2000 .... aaand that's about it really!!

lonewolf101584d ago

Sad but true that was pretty much it.

Kurt Russell1584d ago

Agreed, I never actually saw a 3DO make it to retailers in the UK. At least the Atari Jaguar was sold for around 6 months.

lonewolf101584d ago

It made it to some my brother got one, fared just as well as the Jaguar so most probably hard to find in general.

darthv721584d ago

3do had way better games. Jaguar not so much. Neo Geo sold less than both and yet isnt considered a failure. Go figure.

LWOGaming1584d ago

Stadia is a weird one. It hasn’t sold at all well but in terms of how it works it’s still miles ahead of Xcloud in terms of stability and performance. Xcloud is still a way behind and that needs sorting but it will be in time. Stadia for me is one of those things that will go down as a what could have been moments. With better marketing it could have been a roaring success. I still play it and it remains the best place in my opinion to play CyberPunk 2077. Only platform I have played it on without having any issues at all. The tech is great. The concept is fine. Marketing terrible. Shame really.

Magog1584d ago

The sales model was awful. They should have teamed with an existing player to allow for local and cloud access to games or a gaming subscription service.

LWOGaming1584d ago

It was a strange mess from such a huge company, as I said, as a system it works really well but without gamers it’s nothing. Such a waste,

LWOGaming1584d ago

The Xbox One was Microsoft’s Nintendo Wii U. Undercooked, undersold and just an unholy mess. The thing is with any of these failures is to learn from them and thankfully both Nintendo and Xbox did just that to the benefit of gamers everywhere.
