Read his last tweets, he's really, really offended bt the IGn review, just like us :P

Shaman5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

Of course he is pissed because stupid Gamespot and IGN are the most popular sites and it will probably reflect on sales and later reviews.I mean...look at reviews for this game(especially from EDGE and Eurogamer),they are mostly ~9 and to give it so much lower score is total debacle.7,5 are scores that you give for fun games that lack real quality and polish and Caslevania CERTAINLY is not one of them.I cant understand that game with such polish, such graphics and amazing story and all around awesome production values can get score thats less then game like darksiders...

visualb5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

who expected more of a SOTN type of game, with a "free roam" world (ala metroid) and were frustrated by invisible walls (that are present in almost every hack&slash, even GOW

expectations will lead to a skewed perspective (and a let down)
I believe the game looks like an 8.5 minimum, solid great fun, and I consider buying it later on

as for frame rate, well, they should have sent the BETTER version, not the lesser =/

firelogic5636d ago

I believe edge gave it an 8. 7.5 to an 8.0 isn't much of a difference. And beyond the actual scores, the game is being criticized for the same things, namely, artificial length by putting in a lot of fluff, obtuse puzzles, framerate, and some other things that don't come to mind. If all the reviews, regardless of score, are harping on the same things, it's not an issue of OMG IGN/Gamespot suck! All the reviews are saying.

One thing that I didn't like in the demo was that pause after each attack animation. I wanted it nice and flowing like in GoW, NG, DI, etc...Why is there a pause after every strike?

ColJessup5636d ago

It's good to know this is just affecting the review code, but if anything, you think you'd save your best code for the reviewers. I mean, those are the guys that are going to influence how other people view your game.

corneliuscrust5636d ago

that it was fixed after they sent out the review code. Deadlines are deadlines

BeaArthur5636d ago

Stupidity. Why would you give a copy for review that isn't perfect. If anything the review copy should be better than the retail copy.

Ahasverus5636d ago

It's because review copies run in debugg units, even retail copies could suffer from "surprise glitches" in those machines because they have different architecture. But yeah, they should have tested it before. Bad move from their part.

Biggest5636d ago

Bad move on the submitter as well. The title should include "say the devs" or something to that affect.

Eamon5636d ago

Also, sometimes they want to give it to reviewers very early on so they can finish it completely before to give it a non-biased review.

The retail units usually go into mass scale production a week or two before release day and reviewers usually get their review copy over a month earlier.

raztad5636d ago

The demo certainly has a very low framerate, lows at 17, 25 average. So I'm not surprised the review code/final build (the same?) is running close to those numbers and dip even lower when things get hectic.

Ahasverus5636d ago

The average is very damaged by the cutscene framerate, however gameplay fps is rock solid 30fps. and the demo is from June 2010 (E3) so i have faith things got fixed since then =)

carreirabr5636d ago

Demo gameplay is 25 fps average, which is far from your 30fps.

MorganX5635d ago

There was no demo on the 360.

And that YouTube of the PS3 demo, there's no way anyone could believe the final would run like that on the PS3, and no reviewer worth their salt would believe that was final code. If it is, it will be a disaster.

Unicron5636d ago

Also, review outlets usually want code as fast as possible for early reviews.

divideby05636d ago

lets wait for the retail release and see if this is true..

Hydrophobia devs complaining about score.
Castlevania devs have issues with their review copy.
Enslaved devs are not mouthing off left and right about the PS3.

-End statement

JustSomeLogic5636d ago

Decipher your point exactly here.
What are you trying to say? I know it kinda goes against your End Statement code but could you please add a lil on that statement so that it falls on this side of coherent

seij5555636d ago

He is trying to say that devs are starting to get really whiny.

Eamon5636d ago

Well, it's natural for David Cox to get pissed off when he put so much effort into his game.

What the reviewers have in common is that they say it gets tedious often. Maybe he should not have made it 20 hours long?

DigitalAnalog5636d ago

Enslaved devs are "mouthing" off left and right about the PS3.

@JSL: What seij555 said.

Although being linear, which I wish it wasn't, the first game was absolutely incredible. A mix of old school God of War meets Date's Inferno; I was highly impressed by this title. I heard the sequel was trash so I ever played it but I think LoS was a good example of how a 3D CV game could be.

rgraf771977d ago (Edited 1977d ago )

I was very happy the game was Linear as I hate exploring. The first game was one of my all time favorites and the 2nd game was a total letdown with the lame hub system and stealth sections. Playing in current times sucked too. I wish they would make a remaster of part 1.

magdiellima1977d ago

Good as a game but terrible as a Castlevania. The sequence was even worse.

Terry_B1977d ago

It is a great game, but just like DMC is not a Devil May Cry..this one was not a Castlevania :-)

FreeckyCake1976d ago

Give Castlevania to Igarashi team, and they will nail it as they did with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

Terrifyingly Bad: A Look Back At the 3D Castlevania Games

If you decide to play a Castlevania game, make sure it's in 2D. Unfortunately, the series has never been able to make the jump from 2D to 3D successfully. Publisher Konami has tried. Six times in fact, but whether trying to build it in-house or with a third party developer, they never captured the essence of the series or make a good game for that matter. So just to be sure you know what to look out for, here are the six 3D Castlevania games that have been made.

isarai2334d ago

I loved the hell out of lords of shadow, lords if shadow 2 had its moments but just didnt leave as much of an impact on me as the first did, still loved it though. They are both great games IMO, maybe not the best "Castlevania" games but great games in their own right.

RememberThe3572333d ago

Yeah that first game was legit good. Really wish they hadn't taken a step back for the second, this series really looked great in 3D.

AK912333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

According to one of the former devs of Mercury Steam the higher ups kept interfering with the sequel to the point where the game was nothing like what the dev team had envisioned for the sequel so we got the mess that was Lords of Shadows 2.

PhoenixUp2334d ago

I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. They were entertaining titles and I wouldn’t mind trying Lords of Shadow 2 on PS Now.

Just because a game isn’t GOTY worthy does not mean it’s not worth playing. You could do a lot worse than those exceptional titles.

Abcdefeg2333d ago

Curse of darkness was ahead of its time

Hedstrom2333d ago

I really liked lament of innocence and Lords of shadow! Havent tried the other 3d games. But ive played most of the 2d games!

gangsta_red2333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

I don't know why Castlevania: Lament of Innocence gets a bad rap. It was one of the best in the series at that time and really was a compliment to the Devil May Cry 3rd person style of action that was getting popular at that time.

I rented it on a fluke and was seriously surprised on how good it was. So much so I went out and bought a used copy of Curse of Darkness and instantly returned that trash.

The problem with Nintendo 64 games is they all tried to mimic the Mario/Zelda 64 style of gameplay and how could they not with that whacky ass N64 controller. Almost every game outside of Nintendo's own felt horrible and incomplete.
