this is old news...you are seriously behind the ball on this. This controller came out nearly 5 months ago and it's not an alternative controller. It was a controller specifically made for the online shooter MAG. Trust me, I would know.

Damn!! It is horrible, like Xbox´s controller, it is nothing personal but I think that controller is VERY big and sometimeas it can be uncomfortable, DS3 is better, the only thing they have to upgrade of it...the triggers, I am not saying they are bad, just that they need triggers like Xbox´s controller. I know I can buy them, but Sony should upgrade them.

Actually...I want the Move navigation controller as the left side of the controller and one identical to it on the other side...with the four shapes instead of the d-pad.

Don't connect them either. I want them separated. It'd be more comfortable.

Give us the OPTION to connect them though...and you've got the perfect controller.

Seriously, I actually own all 3 consoles, unlike most of the Sony fanboys who hang out at N4G.

The 360 controller is quite a bit better than the PS3/PS2/PS1 controller. Why? 2 main reasons:
1) Better analogs. Before you cry like a Sony fanbaby, here's a little history lesson:
The PS analogs are way too close together and they always have been. Heck, they are in the same spot Sony tacked them on when the N64 launched and they were like "hey, we want analog sticks too" and instead of redesigning the controller, they just tacked them on, leaving the Dpad as the primary control interface - that's why the PS Dpad is so nice - it's a Dpad focused controller. That said, it's NOT an analog focused controller - you can't be both simultaneously, it's not physically possible. That's also why the 360 has a crappy Dpad, because it's analog centric... but 99% of games coming out use the left analog stick primarily, so Sony loses in this category.

2) Better triggers. Plain and simple. Play COD:MW on PS3 with those goofy bumpers, then play it with the 360's triggers. WAY better. Also, any racing game you can imagine is much more responsive with the 360's triggers.

Also, my PS3 controllers cut out for a few seconds about once an hour. Other than batteries dying, I've never had any connection problems with my 360 controllers.... Oh yeah, and they have rumble, too... which was "soo last gen" when I bought my PS3 at launch :P

Wow, you guys are some bitter little people, well, I'm assuming you are all little if you are complaining about the 360 controller being too bulky. LOL, my 13 year old step daughter has no issues using a 360 controller, what's that say about you guys?

Im a big PlayStation fan love the controller.But i admit 360 controller/lay out is better for shooters. I got the Pro elite ps3 controller (360 layout) 2weeks ago. My performance in FPS has gotten better. I use my pro elite controller exclusively for FPS and everything else DS3.

The best controller of this gen is the DS3, last gen it was the dualshock 2 and the original dualshock two generations ago.

OT. i laugh at all the fanboys trying to defend there controller of choice. get a life people, you have different preference, get used to it. i like the DS3. am i going to tell you why? no, i dont care that much.

if the higher position for the analog stick was more comfortable then why did ms leave the right stick lower down?
that's the only issue i have with the xbox, and gamecube, pads, i prefer the sticks to be in the same place, either have them both lower down or both higher up, if you think that's a better position, but not this half and half design.

I'm not a fan of shooter games but I admit xbox controller is more suited for shooter games.

I own played all Playstation consoles and got used to dualshock controller. I prefer DS controllers. Layout of buttons is perfect.

I never like that analog button on xbox controller.

I have both consoles but loathe the PS3 controller. It's too small, designed for kids or people with small hands. The two analogue sticks are too near each other. The triggers are god awful, curved the wrong way.

I know a lot like the DS3, but for the likes of me that have done years of physical jobs, gaming with the DS3 or any of the Playstation controllers is an uncomfortable experience.

For those who are looking for an alternative to the DS3, then they might take a look at this.

Aside from the triggers, the Playstation controller is the perfect layout. It fits well in your hands, sort of resting on them without having to hold it, and the analog sticks are symmetrical which makes it wasy on the hands instead of having one hand way at the front.

Funny how people complain about their hands being to big my dad is just short of 7 foot tall and has massive hands yet he has no problems. You don't have to grip the controller with all your might, if I hold it tight it feels to small but if I loosely hold it it's fine.

It seems to me the only people bitching about the controllers are people that don't own a PS3, I love the dual shock.

actually there are some of us with bigger hands than most, that find the ds3 uncomfortable. i've had man-sized hands since i was 13 and prolonged play sessions with my ps3 make my hands cramp up. if the price is right, i might have to pick one of these up.

I use the controller that came with the PS3, just because it's sitting here in my hands not costing me money. I mean, the thing comes with a working controller, why buy more?

I'm not ignorant to the preference/opinion aspect of how controllers perform so to anyone this actually improves the gaming experience of thumbs up.

But personally the DualShock has been flawless since the PS1 where they basically perfected it. The DualShock 3 did better then that.

I hate the xbox controllers triggers and layout. I have always manipulated the analog stick by the edge so an indentation really doesn't help.

I don't know about 360 controllers but PS3 controllers are crap! Not because of how they feel, but how weak they are. I have been through a lot of them and they ain't cheap. They are not as rigid as the PS2 controller, the trigger buttons get floppy after awhile, and I have managed to push the X button right through into the controller.

I don't care about the shape too much because I can get used to anything.

Finally, it might actually be bearable to play most games on the PS3 now. Hallelujah!

You know it's my personal opinion, i hate the 360 controller becouse i have always cramp in my fingers after one hour gaming on the 360, the DS3 is way better becouse i can play on the DS3 many hours play game without any cramp like the 360 controller like i said it's my personal opinnion.

This is all funny to me. I could care less what controller they throw at me I'm a gamer, and gripped every controller made. Its silly to complain about which controller you prefer. The only controller that was uncomfi was Atari Jaguar, and I still had hours of endless fun playing Aliens VS Predator.

The Xbox360 controller is one of the best controllers I've had in my hands, the ps3's controller is comfortable also. Hell, I've been using it for 15 years. I have no controller preference. withering I'm playing Halo Reach, or got damn Killzone two

The only gamers who have a beef with Dualshock controllers are the 360 fanfucks who talk shit. The same guys who use the word pwned and play COD and Halo constantly.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
