You don't need to make a breathtaking drama with only oscar winners or nominee actors to judge a director's work..

Bad boys 1 and 2 (really fun movies can't deny it)
The island
The Rock

are considered garbage.. They are great summer movies which a lot of people enjoy.

Doesnt also have big exclusive movie studio support? It hurts both formats. It hurts consumers. It hurts the adoption rate of high definition movies on disc. Makes me hesitate to buy any high def movie till a proven format standards has been established.

but Microsoft, who is one of only a few board members on the HD-DVD Association, provides a significant amount of the Association's funding. They helped spearhead the initial campaign of selling HD-DVD Players at a $200 loss, and also provided the funding for the Paramount/Dreamworks Animation exclusivity deal.

They also integrated HD-DVD functionality directly into Windows Vista, and did no such thing for Blu-ray. Understandable considering their allegiance.

If anyone paid anyone it was Toshiba since they have the most to lose in this venture.
If MS did anything recently it was with Disney since HD Disney movies are coming to XboxLive.

I say it's 50/50 right now because Disney is waiting on Apple to make it's move...and then they will follow just like they did on iTunes movie DL's.

To the 2 posters above - you guys support Blu-Ray because you have a PS3, and for no other reason. That bitter taste in your mouth is the taste of defeat. We'll see what happens over the next 2 crucial Christmas seasons with this war.

Don't you guys feel a little abandoned by Sony? I mean, they have the ability to make some great games - I have enjoyed several, but so far, the PS3 is not a game console - Sony has been pushing Blu-Ray movies and not PS3 games. The PS3 was never intended to satisy gamers. That's why Sony tried to made Blu-Ray in the first place - to collect royalties on a "would-be" future movie format. The PS3 was a catapult cleverly shoved down the world's throat. This catapult put them in the next-gen lead. The truth is, if you guys didn't have Blu-Ray playback included in the PS3, and it was only standalone, Blu-Ray would be getting crushed. This is why I make my judgement saying that Blu-Ray is not a choice. If you really supported Blu-Ray, and not Sony, you would buy a Blu-Ray standalone player if the PS3 did not have Blu-Ray playback. I can't say for certain if you would or wouldn't, but my guess would be no.

Hell, Sony could have sold more PS3s if they didn't include Blu-Ray playback because the system would be more affordable and cost competitive. They could also have focused on getting some "good" games out if they weren't so focused on the movie aspect of Blu-Ray. The games on the PS3 are lame compared to the 360. Yes, the 360 has some reliability issues, but the point is, Microsoft does remedy the problem with no questions. I will buy a console with the best games, and customer service in the event something happens. I will not buy a reliable system with a garbage selection of games. As a gamer, I want great games, not only reliability. Games come first, not movies. Sony has left you guys hanging, and they are using the Sony fanboy fanatics as little sheep as we speak.

like I said, if you have 50 or more Blu-Ray movies, you are a sheep in Sony's flock. They were definitely looking to exploit your die-hard Sony-or-nothing mentality with Blu-Ray. It ends up costing you thousands of dollars in the long run, and Sony's Blu-Ray attempt will ultimately fail. They can still make Blu-Ray games even if Blu-Ray fails on the movie side, so who cares???

Have fun with you Disney cartoons on Blu-Ray. Your average gamer that buys a PS3 is probably 20-30 years old and has long outgrown animated movies, so they won't buy them. The only ones that will have children, and I understand that. But, if you are a 25 year old single male w/ no children and you buy "Cars", I'm sorry, but you're gay.

To be honest with you, I have a PS3 and I fell a little sad right now, but I am glad that this happened. The price point was going to kill Blu-Ray eventually anyway. this deal will expedite the process of choosing a winner, and after this Christmas, other studios may jump ship to HD DVD as well. A winner needs to be chosen, right? So, what do you care if it is HD DVD? Sony started this war - not Toshiba.

With all that said, I may be nuying one more Blu-Ray movie and then I'm done - Badder Santa! Excellent and funny movie. I know it's a Disney/Buena Vista flick, but it is not a damn kids movie by any means.

Every single person who bought a PS3 has already paid for Blu-Ray whether they wanted to or not. They paid for Blu-Ray hardware. How well do you think Blu-Ray movies would be selling if Sony hadnt trojan horsed it into the PS3? No your right Sony isnt forcing anybody to buy Blu-Ray movies. But they bet the farm that by force feeding it to Playstation brand loyal consumers that they have made the choice for you. Of course its easy for your to support it. You already paid for it. I wonder how all the 3rd party software developers really feel about Blu-Ray. Since the PS3 hs the lowest game attachment rate of all 3 next gen consoles. The 360 has the highest. Why? Because 360 owners know that the 360 was meant to play videogames. PS3 owners are just confused. No good games, so they either buy movies or cure cancer. I will take the option of choosing if and when to buy a high definition movie and what format vs having someone try to force my hand and make the decision for me. Unlike PS3 fanboys I can form my own opinion and think outside of Sony's marketing...

You can always get the movies on DVD and wait out the format war. Thats my plan. May not be as nice as a high def movie, but it will still look great. You may think this is funny but I use my wireless controller on my 360 to play DVD movies right now. I lended my Progressive Scan DVD player to my brother when he got his new Plasma HDTV and never saw it again :(

However, I did not give birth to HD DVD, lol. People always have the option of standard DVD for a long time coming.

Why do I want Sony to lose? I'll tell you plain and simple. They are using monopolistic tactics and "spun" information to misinform the gullible to try and push their Blu-Ray agenda onto the consumer. They bought off Fox, and Disney. So, nobody has the right to be mad at Toshiba for buying off Paramount, but for some reason, Blu-Ray fanboys now hate Paramount. As far as the format war goes, Sony started it. HD DVD was out first, and then Blu-Ray challenged it. This means they started the HD war by coming in and bribing studios for support, like it or not, they started it. Toshiba is not making HD DVD so it can sell "Toshiba studios" movies. There is no movie studio owned by Toshiba. Sony, on the other hand, is trying to monopolize the next gen format by using itself as an exclusive studio for its format, thereby purposefully limiting consumer choice to see thier movies on any other format. It's just bad business, and Sony has made this bad for the consumer. If they didn't make their own format and bribe studios in the first place, we wouldn't have this war. If all we had was HD DVD, then everyone would be happy, and sony could still make money by putting their movies on that format. Instead, they chose to be greedy bastards, and milk consumers for all they could by pushing this format struggle. The problem is, they expected the PS3 to have sold 20 million units by now and it hasn't happened. Sony is greedy, and they have used and continue to use unfair business practice that violates ethics laws. Sony is the bad guy in this war, not Toshiba.

I don't support the bad guy who started the fight, and that's why I don't support Sony. With that said, stick a fork in Blu-Ray. It's toast. If you think I am biased, I'll tell you that I have both formats. I have a PS3. I think it's crap. It has no good games. Sony has not used it as a game console. They have marketed it as a Blu-Ray movie player and completely forgotten about their hardcore gamer base. However, their hardcore gamer base is, for the most part, too stupid to see that they are forgotten pawns that are being used. All PS3 owners so far have been robbed. The PS3 games suck. A game console for $600 with no good games is pretty damn stupid and absurd. I know that some of you will argue the term "good". Truth is, Resistance isn't bad. But, it sucks compared to Gears of War - if we're arguing content being a deciding factor for a purchase, most gamers will get a 360 in this case because more prefer Gears of War To Resistance. It's all relative. Which system has the better games? The Xbox360 does.

Sony expected to have sold many more PS3 consoles than it actually has. They over-estimated their loyal crowd, to be frank. They wanted the initial Blu-Ray/PS3 surge to be 10X higher than it actually was and now, they are in troubled times. Let's face it. Sony wanted the PS3 to be rare for 6-8 months after launch - just like the Xbox360 and Wii. But, they were literally sitting on store shelves within 1 week of the launch. Sony got hammered by the price tag. Even their loyalists couldn't afford it, for the most part.

As far as the Wii, it isn't in the same league as the PS3 or the 360, so who cares. Most people have a Wii and 1 of the other 2 consoles. The Wii is a supplementa game system that offers something different - I have no beef with the Wii. Let them sell 300 million units - I'll be glad for Nintendo.
