Sony: We love Kinect comparisons

PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has admitted that Sony feels "lucky" that its Move peripheral is continually compared to Microsoft's Kinect - as it has led to more press coverage than the firm could have hoped for.

the comparison chart making them look desperate and is just adding fuel to the fire

Edward-Kraken5711d ago

Once again, Sony keeping it classy. Just like my man Dudley. :)

outrageous5711d ago

Of course they like the comparison...it hides the fact they stole there entire design and gameplay from Nintendo Wii.

How embarrassing for Sony to admit that they hang onto the big American company like a parasite looking for a free meal.

Biggest5711d ago

What about that whole "Sony's been doing camera control since PS2" thing? Make another account and explain why Sony is both stealing from the Wii and Microsoft, yet their product is better than both Nintendo and Microsoft. Maybe you should hope for Microsoft to steal better next time. Stealing 10 year old hardware ideas isn't the most intelligent way to do business.

LordStig5711d ago

Now i understand why sony's advertisement budget is low compared to MS.

Def Warrant5711d ago

lol i agree. Sony doesn't to need spend millions on advertising. Their products are well know and they have a history for high quality assurance.

ECM0NEY5711d ago (Edited 5711d ago )

Sony doesn't need advertising, but you need english lessons. :)

On topic: Still not very hyped about either.

LordStig5711d ago

cos idiots keep doing comparisons little do they know their advertising the thing for free very clever.

SL1M DADDY5711d ago

It shows how the move is far superior to kinect every time. Why wouldn't they love it?

bjornbear5711d ago

use your opponents weight and momentum against him.

HAI!

Boody-Bandit5711d ago

I agree and have been saying the very same thing forever. Sony puts their money on games. They don't waste it on crap that doesn't matter. That is why and how they can fund all the 1st, 2nd and even 3rd party support they have, and why they offer the most variety and diversity in the gaming industry.

ArchangelMike5711d ago

After playing Sports Champions, I'm convinced that in terms of added gameplay - Move wins. Now I know Kinect has not been released yet, but Move does not take anythign away from current gameplay mechanics, instead it adds precision, and depth to current gameplay mechanics with its motion control. Kinect on the other hand takes away established gameplay mechanics and substitutes them for on-rail experiences - whcih to me seems like a backward step. I am patiently waiting to be proved wrong (given the TGS announcements of new exclusive games for Kinect), however the simple fact remains that most games will inevitable be casualware, or on rail games! And in this regard I can't say that Kinect > Wii tbh!!!

Qui-Gon Jim5711d ago

Other than shooters, how will we control the camera without that second analogue stick? I don't want to control the camera in platformers the same way that SOCOM does it. I am excited for Move, so I hope that developers come up with something that works well (perhaps using head tracking like GT5?).

chaos-lockheart5711d ago

I think they just need to put a globe on the navigator.

ocnkng5710d ago (Edited 5710d ago )

You mean camera control in a TPS? If thats the case then whats the problem with using the move controller for camera? Think of it as the same way as using a mouse to control camera in TPS/Isometric games on the PC.

Qui-Gon Jim5710d ago (Edited 5710d ago )

TPS seems to work fine. My concern is about games that don't use a targeting reticule all the time. I don't want to be platforming in Uncharted 3 with an icon floating around the screen like in Mario Galaxy. Or how about something where the Move is your sword controls? How do you control the camera there? Sorcery seems to lock the camera behind the player, which is fine for many games, but not for others. Game developers are a lot better at designing games than I am, so I hope they see solutions that I don't.

@ chaoslockheart: I would bet that when PS4 comes out, it will come with a controller that is an evolution of Move, possibly a hybrid between two Move controllers and a dualshock.

Def Warrant5711d ago

lol if i knew my product was the best on the market i'd love comparisons too. Just think of it as free marketing :)

I wonder if he tried to stop Shawn Layden from starting it?

Profchaos14d ago

Technically horizon came out in 2020 under Jim Ryan who took over in 2019

It's hard to tell who initiated the project but the Decima engine makes porting to PC fairly easy so who honestly knows if this was Jim's initiative or not I get the feeling it was

Redemption-6413d ago (Edited 13d ago )

It's actually not hard at all. Shawn Layden said he started it. Shawn Layden has confirmed that he was behind the strategy to bring PlayStation exclusive games to PC. Regardless of whether you hate Jim or not this wasn't his idea. It happened during his watch, but it was started before he took over. Below are links with him confirming it started with him

Fake news. He didnt say that. This video was posted on YouTube and on here they decided to change the title. Shame on you.

i81duce14d ago

At 5:16, he literally states the thing you say he doesn’t say. Did you even watch the video?

GotGame81814d ago

Sony already said they weren't porting to PC anymore. Or, at least that is how I interpreted a couple of articles. I think if it were not for Helix, that may not have happened.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga19d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199219d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga18d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman18d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box19d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion18d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7219d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7519d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit19d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14919d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7719d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.

Former Sony president Shuhei Yoshida reveals why the original PS ultimately led to Bloodborne

Sony's bold entrance into the console market back in the '90s heralded the use of CD-ROMs instead of cartridges, which convinced several companies to jump on board the PlayStation train. It turns out FromSoftware was one of those companies lured in by the appeal of discs.
