Speaking of multiple accounts, do Microsoft count the ones they've banned or for those who no longer use live?

For eg - Enslaved and PES 2011 demo are right now available only on the EU accounts , plus the EU store has a truck loads of free themes.

What does it matter if people have multiple accounts? Most of those accounts are being used by different people, plus people are acting like there's only 10 million PS3's sold.

The fact that xbl charges for accounts doesn't mean that Microsoft doesn't give away accounts, nor that there are rich, spoiled punks with three or more accounts just because he/she can.

Funny but this is multiple accounts on PSP and PS3.

Strange to only have 30 M active acconts while there are almost 40M PS3 consoles sold ww.

I think this "active" is an account where you added credits to it via PSNcard/credit card at lease once in a lifetime.
Because if you consider "active"all those ppl with 2 or 3 accounts then we only have around 10M PSN users only.

30 million is alot

I have 6 PSN accounts on different regions around the world. But I'm the one one using all the accounts. I also have multiple US PSN accounts to keep different online multiplayer scores. There are also many PS3 gamers having multiple accounts. So, 30 million PSN accounts may only have 20+ million physical gamers.

X360 gamers can also have multiple Live accounts but because it's harder to create Live accounts on different regions and having to pay the each Gold Live accounts, I'm guessing there are fewer physical X360 gamers having multiple Live accounts than PS3 gamers.

Point is total number of accounts don't mean much coming to different gamers owning each account. It's mostly to keep the company and the fans happy to brag about the large numbers.

What constitutes as "active" though? Used in the last month? In any case, many people have multiple PSN accounts (I could make 100 if I wanted to) so it's hardly worthy of spinning it as user growth.

At least when Microsoft report XBL activity it's based on active Gold subscriptions, which is a much more accurate measurement of user activity because people wouldn't pay for XBL if they weren't using it.

how many PSPs are out there, 50 million? youre encouraged to make a PSN account with PSPs too.

PS3 fanboys seem to forget that these PSN 'active accounts' include PSP owners who dont even have a PS3. hell, they can even include people who dont own a PS3 OR a PSP, as you just make accounts online. to go on the Playstation Forums you need to create a PSN account. and what happens when people get banned for saying something slightly negative about the PS3? they just create another PSN account and go back on there 2 mins later.

the difference between Microsofts Live numbers and Sonys PSN numbers is that with Lives numbers you know that its a general indication of how many people are playing the 360 online worldwide. with the PSN numbers though, it means nothing. 15 million of those 30 million could be PSP-only owners. 10 million of them could be multiple accounts. 5 million of them might not even own a PS3.

having said that, both figures are relatively pointless to us. all that matters is how many people are playing the game youre playing online.

btw at last count i had made 18 PSN accounts since i got my PSP way back in the day, and then PS3. i use 3 of them online - 1 thats just for watching playtv, never played a game online, no friends on list. 1 for playing online with people i know personally, and 1 for playing online with people i dont personally know but talk to on forums etc. there are a few that i use on the forums, meaning theyre all counted as 'active' too.

Well that is not surprise as sony have 2 consoles out that you can use a psn account so its really not that many if you add the ps3 and psp numbers plus the amount of users that have more than one account.

There are 5 accounts on my ps3 and only mine is really used the other one is my other half's 2 bros and sister where on the 360 they all have there own that they transfer to and from the consoles.

I think this is where MS got it right with xbox live as it keeps the names open and shows more of a true number as you pay for each name.

Sony are getting there with PSN but they are still a few years behind xbox live.

Yeah the only reason I did not purchase the first was because no disc. Does anyone know why no disc for PS3 and a disc for the 360?

Shovelware? This game is freakin sweet. They advertise it as some kind of anime porn or whatever, it has absolutely nothing to do with that. It plays like FF Tactics. The moves are great, game play is great, though can get a little repetitive, but overal its a decent 8. The only thing it has to do with "porn" is that you have to talk to girls, which are your comrades and build up a relationship with them so that you can have a child with them and use said child in the next gen.

The "known as Record of Agarest War 2 in the US" seems a bit misleading as the article doesn't mention anything about anyone releasing the game here.

It's on Disk in the EU for any US PS3 owners who don't want to download nearly 20GB.

They cocked the first's release up badly: 2 years late, only subtitles (because they take 2 years, don't they?), no DLC... unless you buy it from US PSN which gets you DLC and Trophies (No trophies for EU? WTF).

Let's hope 2 will be more consistent across regions.

It was on a disc in europe. Which is how I and other smart people bought it.
