Kotick: Black Ops is how COD games will look in 5 years

VG247: Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has told attendees at the Deutsche Bank 2010 Technology Conference that if you want to know how Call of Duty games will look in five years, look no further than Black Ops.

rebirthofcaos5737d ago

well for kotick then COD will be in 5 years a game that the tutorial will be free and then you pay 59.99 per chapter, and then 59.99 for you to play online every month without the DLC.

kratos1235737d ago

i dont understand how can games get a downgrade in 5 years where supposed to go forward?
now activision go on and milk that 1 game that you have and stop making stupid comments

Anon19745736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

Is Kotick saying that Black Ops is from the future? Is he from the future too? A future ruled by douche bags? In that case, perhaps there's hope for me yet! :)

bjornbear5736d ago

if Black Ops is how COD games will look in 5 years, does that mean that in 5 years COD games will look 5 years old?

I find this statement to be absolutely moronic...not a surprise coming from Kotick

nycredude5736d ago

All this idiot is saying is don't expect them to upgrade their game and engine cause they don't need to since they have a massive following of sheeps who buy their fucking annual rehash, generic war game every single time!!!

totallysane5736d ago

thers games that came out 5 years ago that to this day still look better than some games that come out today. 5 years.. shit

scar205736d ago

it cant the world is gna end in 2012 no more milking cod.

DaTruth5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

After all the MW2 defense forcing up to the release of the game, I am f'in loving this!

I wasn't an MW2 hater, but I hate defense forces. especially when the hate was completely justified and the defense force ends up eating crow!

Note to self: Don't buy any COD games for the next 5 years!(actually never bought a COD game)

badz1495736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

BO still looks like CoD4 and that's already 4 fvcking games using the same engine and look not too distantly different at all! I'm not surprised if after 5 years, CoD 12 will look just slightly better than CoD4! hey...it's Kotick we're talking about here and he rather eats sh1t than spending money making a new engine or licensing better engines!

Bobby kotic is the biggest douche bag in the gaming history

nycredude5736d ago

Calling him a douche bag is actually an insult to the act of actually douching!

Ps not sure if I spelled that correctly.

FOXDIE5736d ago

Sarcasm, its pronounced turd 10!

DaTruth5736d ago

We definitely don't want to give the impression that douching is a bad thing!

It's always the same people on here crying about call of duty. If you people hate the series so much, why do you keep reading and posting in every COD article? Listen, I hate pedofiles. I don't go into every pedofile article and post comments.

This game is never been about graphics, it's been about sheer fun and exciting gameplay. I think Black Ops will be the game Modern Warfare should have been.

Dramscus5737d ago

Why do these games just look like cardboard cut outs in front of a screen to me?
No depth.
Though they are pretty looking cutouts and backgrounds.

I've played and not had a problem with the game play, I just couldn't see anything moving far away because the game has a lack of depth perception.

PS This is a generality about most COD games I have yet to play black ops. My opinion may change later in the week. Probably not though, same engine same depth perception problems, or so I would assume,

CaliGamer5737d ago

Do you mean depth of field?

Dramscus5737d ago (Edited 5737d ago )

Depth perception.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Though on this article it would fall under depth sensation.

I play other shooters that don't have a problem with this. It's like when people get far away in cod they become 2d characters on a 2d background.
In for example mag their 3d characters in a 3d world. When a guys half a kilometer away he doesn't blend in with the walls and ground because it's still 3d models.
In cod the guys are the same general color as the levels and when their far away the game drops the texture resolution on them so low that they don't stand out from whats behind them really.
You can still kind of see them moving but it's just a moving mass of pixels instead of a scaled down character.

hennessey865736d ago

i think u need a new tv my friend ive never once encounterd the problem you have highlighted. To me that sounds like a problem with your tv

Dramscus5736d ago

:/ 1080p sharp aquos 32" and a 1080 lg 56"
Tv's good.
I think it's probably just the colors.
Maybe black ops in a jungle will be a bit more vivid.
The last few games where in grey city scapes and everyone pretty much just wears grey and muddy colors.
I suppose that means the camoflauge is having the desired effect.

frostypants5736d ago

Sounds to me like you're just describing camoflage.

ChronoJoe5736d ago

I thought you were making an analogy, y'know how cod games are shallow, lacking significant depth to gameplay or story.

That's weird though, visually whilst COD doesn't look fantastic, it never looks 2D to me.

zagibu5736d ago

Hmmm, I think I know what you mean. I always have problems with visuals in those games for a moment, when switching games on a LAN party. Maybe it's what you call lack of depth perception.

Bodster5737d ago

So is that confirmed that the cod engine wont change and the graphics will stay the same with only small tweaks here and there?

Dramscus5736d ago

Kind of like the last five years?

Bodster5736d ago

haha yeh, pretty much xD

DaTruth5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

Flashback to 2007: COD4 is how COD games will look in 8 years!

PtRoLLFacE5736d ago

thanks for the heads up, that's another reason why not to buy campers of duty: black ****s

dark-hollow5736d ago

me, you, and everyone here gonna buy it after all
Yeah I know sad but true

PtRoLLFacE5736d ago

not really i didn't buy MW2 so there is no reason for me to buy blck ops

CrzyFooL5736d ago

That does not make sense!! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!!

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex186d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos186d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Nothing lasts forever, eventually something will come along to make people forget about COD

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio186d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger185d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
