Great Expectations: PlayStation Move and Microsoft’s Kinect [Game Rant]

Anthony Taormina of Game Rant writes: "Kinect could have stepped forward as the motion controller of choice for the hardcore gamer, for the gamer who feels that what the Wii has to offer is too casual, and is too focused on group play. But that isn’t happening. At least, not yet. Neither Kinect, nor its spiritual brother in motion, PlayStation Move, should be attempting to repeat the Wii formula. They should instead be developing their own niche in order to appeal to those gamers who feel left in the cold by motion based gaming."

Sounds like a person who was really psyched up for Kinect - realized that it is going down and now wants to take Move down with it.

The poor person actually believed the Milo demo. Actually believed that Kinect would be suitable for hardcore games. Wow.

Is it so bad to be optimistic?

FunAndGun5724d ago

maybe there is a fine line between being optimistic and just being naive?

don't drag down Move just because Kinect isn't anything like MS protrayed it to be capable of at E3 09. I am not a big motion fan but if I was to go that route there really is only one viable option since I am a core and not a casual gamer.

Anyone that thought Milo was really possible must have been born from an incestual gene pool.

they are both here to stay, im getting the move day 1, as soon as i see a proper game for kinect i will also pick that up, then again if the kids want 1 for christmas then i will get it for them.

in NO WAY would an add-on that takes away the buttons would have been the best option for the core gamer.NO WAY.you mean taking away the controller, mouse and keyboard would be great for the core?get real.

ps move on the other hand, out does the wiimote and wiimotion plus in every way.and shows in ACTUAL DEMOS,that it can do what kinect cannot do.just look at Anton's WORKING DEMOS and look at kinect's LACK of DEMOS.

core gamers like precision.the wiimote and kinect aren't precise.that's where they lose the core gamer.you can still have fun,but not a very deep experience.

and the writer obviously doesn't see sony's strategy.sony is offering the core gamer options day one.as it will work with existing games, existing downloads and will work for future games like killzone3 and socom4.not have core gamers waiting 18 months like kinect is aiming for.

not totally disrespect the current fanbase and make no games for them as kinect does.sony knows that some casual gamers will get a ps3.but they are taking care of their fanbase first.that's what got them this far without wii casual gamers.

pulling in wii casual gamers is just a side effect of great controller design and word of mouth on it's capabilities.but you take care of the fans first and that's what sony is doing.if they just wanted casual, they would have stuck with pseye only and waving your hands.sort of like that other thing releasing in november...

Sony's strategy works for me as a core gamer much better than M$ strategy. M$ is selling out the core gamer for the casual, and have not shown anything worth shouting about from a core gamer perspective. People keep going on about its 'future potential', but fail to realise that if kinectimals and ricochete are enough to draw in the casual crowd for M$, the potential will already have bee realised, and the rest of us are stuck with shovelware and on-rail games.

Move is an awful alternative to a standard controller. Same goes with the other motion gimmicks.

DarkFantasy5724d ago (Edited 5724d ago )

why is it awful ? lol seems to me your just a hater.

JoelR5724d ago

playing Socom with it I was probably 30-40% faster in targeting and killing other players who used the sixaxis.... I would tend to think that it's not as bad as you think because of that.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga580d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken580d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77581d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2581d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
