While the upcoming Sonic Colors has a great deal of promise and Sonic 4 - Episode 1 is being developed as a return to the conventions of Sonic 2 from the Genesis era, Sonic Adventure is, in hindsight, the culmination of everything that made Sonic an also-ran to Nintendo's flagship mascot -- all (poorly aged) flash, and very little substance. Even as a curiosity, IGN would advise you give Sonic Adventure a wide berth.

Sonic the Hedgehog has a long and turbulent history in videogames, but which are the best games featuring the blue bur?
Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.
Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.
Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Top 7 for me
7 cd
6 mania
5 Frontiers
4 sonic 3
3 sonic 1
2 sonic and knuckles
1 sonic 2
Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭

Sonic The Hedgehog has had a long and storied history over the past decades, but which are the best Sonic games ever made?
If I have to read another one of these lists that contains the sentence "The game that started it all" I'm gonna go nuts.
And when it comes to fan favourite zones in Sonic 3 (he mentioned Hydro City, Marble Garden and Launch Base), I'd replace Launch base and Marble Garden with Ice Cap zone. Never heard anyone refer to the others as favourites.
I sorta' stopped caring about this list when I saw Sonic Spinball (a genuinely great game) ranked lower than some of the noted atrocities.
Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed is still my favorite kart racer.
I've never really been able to play online tho. D:
Can't even play Team Sonic Racing online cause the servers are broken and don't queue people together.
P.S. This is such a random list. I really don't agree with it. Maybe this really is how they rank it but them just seems odd personally.

For over thirty years, Sonic the Hedgehog has provided memorable video game music and brought many artists from around the world together.
Woww.....Sega ruined this classic
DAYUM that's disappointing.
It seems like a direct port of SA:DX, which was still good.
That's interesting. There's not much in here that actually talks about the emulation quality or changes from the original - I think IGN had the gamer that hadn't played Sonic Adventure in mind (aka the kiddies). It makes sense from that angle - if you hand Sonic Adventure to a Modern Warfare 2-playing 14 year old (Rated M for mature, amirite), they'll compare it to other games they're playing right now. There's no "aw, wasn't that so cool back in the day? This was super sweet technology in '99!" nostalgia to it. There's just Sega flailing around at a 3D Sonic. Which, I might add, was better than most 3D Sonics that came after it (and before it, I mean, Sonic 3D Blast was definitely worse).
It's becoming infinitely understandable whom IGN's intended review audience is, and it's not well-seasoned gamers. Which is sad, because I think there are a few people on that site that have great things to say... they just can't say them because of a bottom-line company policy.
I understand that none of the menus are any good, and everything's just cobbled together from the Dreamcast version, but hey, that's emulation for you, and I'm glad Sega brought an un-broken version to modern stores. Not that I believe it needs a different score - I don't care - but they're not addressing issues important to the old Dreamcast-playing crew. How does it feel on modern controllers? How's the sound (Skies of Arcadia's port to the Gamecube brought awful, tinny sound along with it, did the same thing happen here)?
Also, if these are just accurate Dreamcast ports, do we really need these full reviews without discussing the repercussions of it being on a different system?
Now if they only would put Jet Grind(Set) Radio on there...
