GameSpot: PS3 R.U.S.E. Review

R.U.S.E. is a fun and fascinating real-time strategy game, as long as you know which parts of it to invest in and which to skip entirely. It prospers in the competitive arena, putting an intriguing use of bluffs and reconnaissance to good use on expansive maps that will test your ability to control the battlefield. Offline, you get some mileage out of its single-player skirmishes, but where R.U.S.E. falters is in its plodding, poorly paced campaign. Bizarre character models and bad writing prove distracting, while too-frequent story intrusions interrupt the flow of missions just as they start to get interesting. But the clumsy campaign aside, R.U.S.E.'s unique mechanics lead to tense and enjoyable standoffs in which, literally, things are not always what they seem.

Aw man, thought this would be a really kick ass RTS with the Move but now I'm having second thoughts.

Raoh5743d ago

i canceled my pre order after playing the beta..

i still got starcraft to keep my rts needs fulfilled, hope undersiege will be good...

ThanatosDMC5743d ago

Yeah, played the demo and didnt like it. Must be because i love rts games with depth like COH and SC2 and require being meticulous about resource usage and using counter units.

DelbertGrady5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

Try the demo on PSN and find out for yourself.

morganfell5743d ago

Actually I bought the game after playing the demo. You might want to look around at some other player comments on the site.

SinHarvest5743d ago

Sigh guess I'll let this one slide for now.

HonestAbe5743d ago

i must try out the rts genre, seems interesting

xg-ei8ht5743d ago

Yeah i'm letting this one slide for now on the say so of gamexbox360payedspot.

He even calls Move inferior to the gamepad, ROFL.

YOU FAIL..

Nihilism5743d ago

Gamespot review scores for PS3:

UC2: 9.5
KZ2 9.0
LBP 9.0

Yep they are totally all over M.S d!ck...

/s

Or maybe move just didn't live up to the hype....

Nah not that, anything made by sony is infallible...

jneul5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

OR MAYBE YOU KNOW NAFF ALL AS YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED MOVE WITH RUSE, I WILL TRY IT OUT FOR MYSELF.
MOST REVIEWS SAY MOVE HITS IN THE 8-9/10 RANGE AND IS BETTER THAN WIIMOTE PLUS AND IMPROVES MOTION CONTROL, MOVE IS THE MOST PRECISE CONTROLLER OUT THERE LOOK AT THIS http://gamrconnect.vgchartz... FOR PROOF OF REVIEWS!!
Also nowgamer disagree's with gamepsot saying the move makes the gameplay better http://ps3.nowgamer.com/rev...

insomnium5743d ago

A negative response from dchalfont? Who would've guessed? Atleast you always live up to your hype.

insomnium5743d ago

I just watched some videos from your gamrconnect-link and it really solidified my opinion about Move. It's insane how realistic can tabletennis get with sports champions. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE. Now I have no more doubt about my purchase. I used to have 1-3% doubt :D

crck5743d ago

They also gave game of the year 2k8 to Metal Gear 4 and game of the year 2k9 to Demons Souls. I guess MS paid for those PS3 exclusive GOTY selections as well.

fooltheman5743d ago

If you want a real video of a guy who is really honest..

The biggest problem is that reviewers are talking against each other...which could tell more about the user than the technology

jneul5743d ago

thanks for posting that 9/10 fans will ignore the truth, and RUSE looks awesome with move can't wait till friday:)

labwarrior5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

There are far better games coming to waste money on this

Move IS inferior to the pad, slower and laggy, no deal

Dante's Inferno and R.U.S.E. are now Backwards Compatible!

Just a little while ago, Major Nelson posted on Twitter that Dante’s Inferno and R.U.S.E. have been added to the ever-growing list of backward compatible Xbox games. The games are available for purchase through the digital store, or just insert your old disc and the game should automatically download. As a [Continue Reading]

Dante’s inferno is awesome. Great game.

spwittbold2879d ago

If they would add Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge and Ninja Gaiden 2 to BC I'd jazz my pants.

Switch4One2879d ago

I'm waiting for Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 to come to BC.

MWH2879d ago

What a great game LoS was.

Switch4One2879d ago

And out of nowhere as well! It really had no business being as good as it was.

MWH2879d ago

True, it's rare to play a game with moderate to no expectations then have your mind blown away!

The unfortunate thing is that at the time many reviewers were not kind to it because it did Castlevania differently and because it copied from God of War. i found those reviews sad because they missed a great game for stupid reasons. Same for Dante's Inferno.

One thing is for sure, we were the lucky ones 👍🏻

Switch4One2879d ago

I immediately got a God of War vibe but it was done so well that I didn't care that it deviated from the series so much.
The story, the setting, the Sir Patrick Stewart, the gameplay, all wonderful!

MWH2879d ago

Don't forget the music it is amazing.

I thought the same and that's what those journslists keep missing. Games copy from each other all the time and since the begining, GoW itself borrowed from games like Devil May Cry and Rygar but it is the excution that should also count and everything about this game was top quality.

Nice to see a fellow gamer who enjoyed the same rare gems.

DasTier2879d ago

Surprised that RUSE has been added. Wasn’t that game taken off Steam and the Microsoft Store a few years back due to publisher rights issues?

10) Disgeae 4: A promise Unforgotten

7) Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention

5) Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice

Two problems with this

Detention was a PSV game and in what world was Disgaea 3 better than 4?

Godmars2904920d ago

Because as you can probably guess this was a badly put together and researched list. Was basically just every STG title to appear or be talked about by Sony.

rnmartinez4918d ago

Loved Deadblock and Awesomenauts especially - but I'm glad to see that Plants vs ZOmbies was tops! I was so excited when this was added to PS+, and really I feel that just about anyone can jump into it. Not too over the top military, great gameplay and simple mechanics.

Glad to see at least one of these comments offers something meaningful to the discussion!

What Happened To Strategy Gaming

What is the answer to 99 out of 100 questions? Money…

You need look no further than the strategy gaming genre for confirmation. I recall a time. A very long time ago, when finding a good strategy game was as easy as stopping at an Electronics Boutique, and going to the strategy section. You could pick out almost any game and not miss.

These days that’s not the case. Why? Well, money, and “they” think we Americans are stupid.

I wonder it XCOM will deliver, and finally fill that void missing in consoles. Nothing really worthy in the strategy genre.

All those games that IGN and gamespot rate with a 7 or 8, like Halo Wars and such, it should be more like 3's or 4's.

Those games utterly suck. About the only game that has gotten it right on the console is R.U.S.E

Sean Ryno5046d ago

I disagree very strongly with you. Ensemble did an OUTSTANDING job with Halo Wars. Go on there on any given weekend and you'll see there are more players in that than Halo 3. They built the game from the ground up for a console, and it shows. Albeit, the game is pretty simple compared to pc-strategy games, but the reason for that is obvious, the controller. I have played that game a lot and can say that it is still fun, relaxing, and a great change of pace.

Tell me please, how does Halo Wars "utterly suck"?

Robochobo5046d ago

It's still here, I enjoy playing the Total War series so much. The mods for each one keep it fresh, and the Third Age Total War mod for Medieval Total War II (Based off the LotR) has kept me busy for weeks. Continuous DLC for Shogun Total War II adds days of game play and makes it feel like a new game each time you run it. Games like Tropico and Sim City can have you invested in spending time building and sustaining massive cities for weeks/days as well. When Rome Total War II comes out at retail, the strategy genre will boom yet again, and will usher in a new era of what a RTS/Strategy game should be considered.

Qrphe5046d ago

Dood mods are fucking awesome
Ive brrn playing the Game of Thrones mod myself

And to answer this narrow-minded title
They're on PC!

iamlegend99995046d ago

Well I still play Warcraft 3. I will never stop playing that game.

h311rais3r5046d ago

There's plenty o strategy games on pc.

AAACE55046d ago

I miss dune 2000! I hate going through hoops to try to play it. The only game that kept me so captivated that i played for over 24 hours straight!
