3D TV's will surely drop down in price next year. When they are affordable people will snap them up. I know I will. When I'm able to get one I'm sure there will be plenty of content available. Sky already has the 3D channel, and the PS3 update is coming later in the year. That's enough for me right there.

-How many great movies were out on Blu-Ray when it first came out? Likely Plenty, but in the beginning, they were being trounced by that other format (I forget what it was called) and they didn't have a stellar line-up at first if memory serves.

Wait really? Is this really true? This is actually what these companies are doing? You can only play Panasonic-released 3D Blu Rays on a Panasonic 3D TV? If they're making proprietary content on a per-TV or per-player basis, that will absolutely kill the format. Movies have never been like that, and they never should be. My DVD player can play any DVD on any TV. Blu-Rays, the same. 3D Blu-Rays should NOT be any different!!

What 3D is awesome saw some footage of 3D tvs and its like your there. i have waited all my life for 3D! I remember joking with friends in high school saying imagine if one day games and movies will be true 3D. Sucks how avatar is not on other tvs. I thought that movie was shoot with sony cameras

3DTV's are 10x (Dare I say 100x) better than that at the cinema..I went to my local Comet shop and asked for a demonstration, I was amazed at the clarity/depth and the overall picture quality...At the cinema the picture is dulled by the glasses and it still seems fuzzy, but the 50" Samsung I was shown had brilliant colour and the 3D was crystal clear no blur effect at all (Must be the difference between the cheaper and more expensive shutter glasses)

Dont be fooled by some of the setups they have because for some reason they demo upscaled 2D to 3D images, instead a real 3D source like I was shown.

Personally I dont own a set yet, but later next year I will be making the jump when there is more content out.

This article is confusing me.

It seems to be talking about companies buying up distribution rights etc. to certain movies. However, all blu-rays must comply with certain standards. Therefore all (fw upgradable) blu-ray players should be able to play all discs. Correct?

So, it doesn't matter to the end user which company distributes what movie. That would only possibly affect availability.

A couple of questions that I'm curious about.

How much extra does it cost to manufacture a 3D blu-ray disc?

Is the 2D version included on the same disc as the 3D version?

why are people see eager for blu ray to die ? What will it be replaced with? dvd? you mean a format that has been around since the mid 90s for 480i movies?

What the hells the point in having an HDTV then? Downloads still can't touch the quality and features of movies.

The movie studios are already paring back the number of 3d movies they are making because 3d is not taking off. 3D TV sales are not projected to do well because 90% of people polled DO NOT want to buy one because of the glasses.

As for Blu-ray, what has hamstrung it is cost. Yeah they look better but that doesn't add a 75 - 100% worth of value.

3D had started on pc before (NVIDIA) the console and pushing of the new 3d hd tellys started.
3D will be here to stay also. the price of 3d tv's will be dropping more makers will adpot them. new xbox and wii will have 3d enabled and 3ds has already started for it. 3D will be a option to turn on and off. it will be here to stay people. the problem at the moment is its new to consoles tellys just started them prices are high. give it a year so!!

stereoscopic 3d dosent play a picture pasted together from 2 difrently enlighted pictures(like IMAX)
instead it simoutainously plays 2 seperate pictures in flashes, the glases just flicker so that each eye gets a difrent picture,
its posible only on bluray because the movie must be at 120 to 150 frames per second so that the eye dosent see the flicker, an awarage dvd movie is plaved at 25 to 30 frames per second, trying to put a 120 fps movie on a dvd would quadruple the space requred,
in other words: "you would be getting a dvd 3d movie on 2(or more) discs"

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
