Will games ever be libraries?

Shoryuken.ie: The public library is a bastion of all societies in the West, East, Middle East and so on. It is where we house and cherish our most beloved cultural influencers, informations and breakthroughs. Books are the traditional method of transmitting this kind of data to people, so naturally books are the most common item found in a local library. But can games survive in this form of distribution?

The patrimony of video games will always be conserved through ilegal emulation so a library or whatever will not be needed ever... Unless an extreme regulation for ilegal stuff on the internet could be put into action in the future. But by then we'll be f#%$^ and the internet will suck big time, that's why we need hackers.

games should become free 15 years after release, kinda like they do with songs(although it's longer for songs)

now we get screwed over with overpriced games in the PSN-PS1 library, but they get away with it cuz they have a monopoly over online PS1 games, kinda like windows

in the meantime I will play my PS1 games legally (my real PS1 disc collection) and illegally(downloaded on romhustler) in native 1080p with AA and not on the upscaled 480i(or even lower, since most PS1 games weren't 480i native) of the-PS3 PS1 emulator

Video games are already in some public library systems. The only issue is that there's usually a long wait for these games and few available because not all libraries support them. Also not a lot of people think to donate games to libraries, instead they donate them to Companies.
Do a search below, there are a lot of different titles already being circulated.

I work at a University and I know that our library has video games. Then again, we offer a program in computer science (video game design).

I love the library by my house. I can borrow lots of different games. I very rarely buy games now. I will just borrow the game from the library & if I really like it then I will buy the game.

That article is 10 years old late . Sure it's not the most traditional practice but plenty games and program have been archived in a few libraries .

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit24d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing24d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
