.
Tomoyo would be my choice.

Reibooi5720d ago

Yeah Tomoyo is pretty awesome.

But I thought everyone already knew about this. It was announced quite awhile ago.

Gue15720d ago

What is this? A dating sim with under-age girls?

MisterNiwa5720d ago

It is a japanese adventure game with a very deep and emotional story based on High School Students.

zatrox5720d ago

..With hours and hours of text and text, and chances of localization are none.

rdgneoz35720d ago

Most things based on anime don't get localized outside of Japan since the animes never see the light of day outside of Japan (with the exception of the various groups subbing the animes for free online). Was a good anime, curious how the game plays. Also, is it just the first season, or does it include After Story? Loved both, but After Story with the *spoiler* Nagisa and Ushio dieing *end spoiler* was saddening.

Also, does it include the Dango Daikazoku song?

There are two arcs on the VN, School and After Story.

Shinro5720d ago

It has after story. But you have to clear all routes first to access it.

Xof5720d ago

There are more than 2 routes. There's the main game, which has... 8 or 9 routes--one for each of the characters. Then there's After Story, which is a continuation of Nagisa's route. (Which is a shame, because IMHO, Nagisa's route was among the least interesting. Would have rather seen a follow up for Tomoyo or Kyou).

Anyway, I loved the PC game. Very well written and executed, even if the art was a bit off. Any word on whether or not they'll touch up the art for the PS3 version? I'll probably buy it when it's cheaper--though I probably won't play it that much, as I'm not too keen on Kanji.

Anyway, IIRC, the anime WAS localized and I believe it has been a success, relatively speaking in North America. And it's not like we don't get VN games for PC over here once in a while (well, okay, most of 'em are crappy eroge). It's certainly unlikely that we'll see an NA release, but it's not entirely impossible.

I would not rule out this title as a future PSN title in the NA/EU stores.

right now most anime and manga get a commercial release in the west these days ... the rest is a matter of how , and with wich quality of translation .

But yeah visual novels and dating sims arent common

CrimsonFox135720d ago (Edited 5720d ago )

You know, Clannad (the game/VN) was the original. The anime was based on it, not the other way around.

With no chance of English localization...

Jack-Pyro5720d ago

I have to say, even though the idea of a dating sim interests me from a psychological standpoint, it seems like it would be really, REALLY Boring.

zatrox5720d ago

It's not really a "dating sim" per se, it's more like reading a digital book and picking a choice once every few hours.

Reibooi5720d ago (Edited 5720d ago )

I would agree that it sounds really boring when you hear or think about playing a visual novel however when you actually start playing one it's far from boring.

and like Zatrox said most visual novels coming out now aren't really dating sims. There are stories that will depend on your choices to choose the love interesting but it's not a sim of any kind. Those kinds of games were around more in the mid to late 90's and have pretty much died down(although Love Plus is bringing back a bit) Visual novels now are all about really good stories and characters which is why so many end up becoming movies or anime now.

The best ones keep you completely engrossed in the story and you will not be able to stop(just like a good book) and you do get choices far more then once every few hours. Some games have long portions of story with no choices but more often then not you get a choice every few minutes.

I used to be in the same boat as you thinking "Pff visual novels they sound boring as hell" but then I played Fate/Stay Night and was pretty much hooked and have since then played probably a good 10-15 really good visual novels like Shuffle, Snow Sakura, Air, Little Busters, Ying Yang X-change Alternitive, Kira Kira, Edleweiss and honestly plenty more i can't remember.

I would say just give one a shot and see how you like it. Worse thing is you waste a few hours and maybe better understand the medium and best case is you will find a new and interesting way to pass time.

Best Visual Novels You Should Definitely Try Out

KeenGamer: "We have the best visual novels to suggest to you, but we do recognize that many gamers don’t consider visual novels as games. Sluggishly leafing through dialogues, from time to time making choices. Additionally, many don’t like the anime style of the genre. Maybe we can change your mind."

Legendary Visual Novel Clannad Getting Physical Editions for Nintendo Switch by Limited Run Games

Today Limited Run Games and Sekai Project’s console arm Sekai Games announced two physical editions of Clannad for the Nintendo Switch.

SegaGamer2218d ago

I haven't played the game yet, but i am watching the anime and I have come to the conclusion that it is probably the most overrated anime show ever. I just don't understand what is so great about it. The girls are all seniors at high school and they act like 6 year olds, especially the main girl, Nagisa. She is the most unbearable of the lot. Also, the drama in it is so pathetic and melodramatic that I struggle to understand why anybody thinks it's good. The only good things about it is the main character and his relationship with his dad (something that would have been far more interesting to focus on instead of the harem nonsense) and the comedy surrounding Sunohara.

Vits2218d ago

Normally is Clannad After Story that is highly praised. The first season is mostly use to set characters, backstories and the world. It does a alright job on setting those, but it's not amazing or anything.

Also, while the anime is a fine adaptation. It doesn't go deep enough in explaining how the world works. So unless you really pay attention to the first season, you might get confused by what happens in the second.

xTonyMontana2218d ago

I can't really comment without spoiling it for you but it's after story where it gets better however I just don't think the show is for you judging by your comment.

SegaGamer2217d ago

" but it's after story where it gets better "

I'm 6 episodes in to After Story and it's exactly the same. I have seen a lot of people say it get's better in the 2nd half of After Story, but come on, if the anime is meh for 30+ episodes out of 48, then it really isn't anything special.

I just don't get the popularity of this show at all. I'm at the point where I think people are seeing things that just aren't there. A lot of the fans say this show changed their lives 😂 Are these people for real? If they are, then they are as melodramatic as the show itself. Seriously, anybody that gets emotionally invested in this show must have emotional problems.

You'll eat your words once you've watched After Story
