Sony should still make their own emulator for it, and sell PS2 games on the store. Because the way I see it these re-released PS2 games are part of TRILOGIES!

Trilogies have huge value and allow the player to see backstory to the next-gen itteration, example: God of War, Team Ico, Sly Racoon, etc.

The only game to JUST be 1 PS2 game (actually Xbox game) released on it's own is Oddworld Stranger's Wrath but it's not a simple upscale and polish it's an entire remake with Move support.

SO... In conclusion, Sony can STILL make an OFFICIAL way to play PS2 games on a PS3 and make TONS of money from selling PS2 games on the store BUT ALSO keep releasing these HD "packs" of games.

It would be awesome if Sony combated this hack by introducing PS2 playback in the next FW update.

If this isn't a hoax then Sony have already created PS2 emulation but did not activate it for some reason.

this was already a part of the firmware if you remember the leaked sony notes, talking about BC. It wont effect sales of HD collections people will happily pay to have the games again with trophies, hd gfx and 60fps on one disc.

I do fancy that one for my ps3 slim. Sony could add software emulation in a heart beat and I hope so. If remakes are supported and successful, then there goes my hope of playing ps2 games with wireless controller.

I can't imagine how that is anything but a big lie. A PS2 software emulator for the PS3 already? People have spent since the year 2000 working on a PS2 emulator for the PC, and it's still crappy. And now it suddenly exist for the complex PS3 hardware?

The code service mode, now being exploited, Sony will firmware update to lock out service mode with a passcode. But, if the Service mode code is Firmware based and not hard code - they will remove service mode completly.

I understand people's reasons for trying to get games for free, but if you really have to use a hack to get your games, so you can play them, you need to find a new hobby, obviously you can not afford to buy games.

I don't know why you guy's keep saying " oh sony will patch it" or "stop it" cause their not. They havn't been banning people yet because they want to solve the court case in the U.S. of that retailer selling ps jailbreaks. With this exploit the pirates will win. The court will see it more then just piracy instead they will see it as the iphone jailbreak. Your hopes are too high for sony.

The only reason for exploits, homebrew and hacks are to pirate and make money off someone elses hardware at the expence of the consumer.

Trying to justify homebrew on the PS3 (which is "do it yourself Theft") your only stealing from yourself, other gamers and gaming evolution on the console.

If you want to exploit and use your PS3 to play single player games (guarantee you wont be going online)unless you purchased that game (TOS & EULA)

What is the purpose, to add temptation for homebrew that some hack wants to use to exploit your information or grab your wallet.

When you can probly run or find that so called homebrew software on the PC.

Like I said in a previous post. If you don't like the features the PS3 has to offer, then build your own console.

Funny, the Xbox 360 requires physical change in order to be modded. The PS3 can be done with any home appliance with no change physically. I'm so modding my PS3 so I can play through Killzone and ICO again.

I'm strongly against piracy but, If it turns out that my PS3 slim could play PS2 games all along and Sony disabled it... I'll be very pissed considering I just bought a new PS2 slim 2 months ago after my fatty died!

Considering the PS3s that had "software" emulation still had some PS2 hardware, and that a full emulator wasn't used on any PS3, color me skeptical. I'll believe it when I see it running on a slim. At a third party site.

I notice that they also think they're going to be undetectable on PSN. I'm pretty sure that's what the Xbox modders thought, too.

So what I'm getting by reading most of the posts is that Sony blocked the PS3's BC to make money from still selling PS2 consoles and software? I'm sure by now the PS2 is purely profit, but wouldn't that mean that MORE people would buy PS3's instead of PS2's to play remade HD versions of said games? Instead of going out and buying an old PS2 to play them? In every situation Sony is making money. Selling PS2's, PS2 games, PS3's or PS3's to play HD remade PS2 games. I really don't think it would matter to them in which combination the flow of money is coming since it's coming no matter what.

And yes, everything is about money. I think people forget that Sony does have the largest collection of 1st party studios. They need money to help produce these games coming from their own studios, which, as far as I can tell are some of the best and most highly rated games of this generation. So yes, the more money the better. Better to support future AAA exclusive games then to give to some half-baked loser thief's.

On a side note, all I need is FFVII and some other PS1 classics on my Samsung Epic and HD remakes of ICO, SotC on my PS3. All the rest I can give two poos about since I can run them on my PC if needed, or my old YLOD fatty 60GB when I get it fixed again. I currently have 50+ PS3 games, had over 100+ PS1 and PS2 games, and various games on other platforms, so yeah I would rather see these hackers have their pants sued off then win. I guess I'm just different in that I care where my money goes when it's supporting my passion which is gaming. ;)

If i did not own the ps3 that are backward compatible i would be very mad at sony for lieing in my face. Remeber a e3 years ago where the boss himself promised that ps3 would play every ps2 games compared to another console.

It kinda sucks that repair place couldn't reapir my 60 GB model. Yeah, they made the light be green again, but it only works in 10 minutes top and it dies by freezing.

Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
