Virtua Fighter 5 Online Hands-On

What happens when Sega's premiere fighter meets the Internet? Gamespot's got an exclusive hands-on to discover the answer.

"We tried a few matches, and, with our total hypersensitivity to lag, of course we noticed it. However, what we experienced wasn't game-breaking. It's definitely there, but it's possible to compensate for it. We had some issues initially timing our counters with Aoi, but after a bit it was possible to get used to the latency. We reckon players who favor Akira will be having some fun times pulling of SPOD combos, but it also seems like a doable thing once you get used to how the game plays online. Your mileage will of course vary with lag, depending on your proximity to your opponents and the quality of everyone's connections."

At least its nowhere as bad as the Street Fighter games that were online on the old Xbox now that was LAG and really bad!

This game is looking very promising with IMPROVED VISUALS and other things like ONLINE PLAY!

tekken 5 : dr has a better online play ...

CG6857d ago

You've got sony tatoo'd on your forehead and a cell chip up your ass so who cares what you think.

darkequitus6857d ago

Yes because you have played VF5 online- pratt

xfrgtr6857d ago

hehehehehehehehehehehehehe, poo r xbots,SEGA has said that LAG WILL BE AN ISSUE to play this game online

sajj3166857d ago

I've said it before, its too important that fighting games do not have lag. The last thing I want to do is adjust my timing for lag vs non-lag matches. I use Akira religiously and rely on the SPOD. I've been working on perfecting that move since VF3 on the Dreamcast.

Anyway, I've got VF5 on my PS3. 360 owners enjoy the game. Enjoy the lag. Any VF fan can tell you that this game requires split second timing. More so than Tekken and DOA.

darkequitus6857d ago

So what if there is lag. If it is no good, just play the offline game. You are an idiot. You act as if online is the only mode available. Why not engage your brain before you post anything? Or are you simply brain-damaged and cannot help it?

Bnet3436857d ago

If both people have good connection, the game is playable online.

Panzer Dragoon Saga HD ?? Shining Force 4 or 3 hd ?? Phantasy Star V ??..................

ZeekQuattro257d ago

Panzer Dragoon maybe. I don't see Sega touching those other ips unfortunately. I at least wish they would do a Shining Force collection that includes SFIII.

Pergele257d ago

Shining Force 3 collection or 4 with 2D graphics will always be my most wanted game.

Agent75257d ago

Please, no RPGs. Sick of all these SEGA games for the Japanese market.

Lightning77257d ago

jet Set Radio, Gunvalkyrie, Otogi, please let it be. Jetset is by far the most realistic one to show up. One can hope for the other 2.

Agent75257d ago

SEGA's game catalogue has been a bit naff after the Xbox 360 and PS4. Stop those Mega Drive/Genesis collections and move onto arcade classics, some which never got released on consoles. Not sure what's happened to the new Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe etc., but the likes of Virtua Racing, Super Hang On, ESWAT and maybe even Alien Storm are due sequels.

FinalFantasyFanatic257d ago

Persona 6 and Skies of Arcadia remaster/port please, there's heaps you could surprise me with, and I'd probably be happy with it.

What is?

Witcher III, Slay the Spire, Virtua Fighter 5, and Sonic Mania are an excellent lineup of titles to add.

Smok911820d ago (Edited 1820d ago )

Lol thanks for your thoughts. Let’s now collectively disagree.

waderae1820d ago

How can you disagree with virtua fighter 5? You haven't played it. It's not out.

Hawk1986661820d ago

All the disagreeing are fools. You thinking adding a 6yrs old game thats timed, that's on sale nearly all the time for cheap is a great addition as the main game?? 2 of the games are previous PS+ games so a lot will already have them. And Virtua Fighter nearly everyone will already have that through plus! You're all Clueless

SegaSaturn6691820d ago

Those are great titles. Real treat.

Rocosaurus1820d ago

Love witcher 3, but that game is six years old.

Eidolon1820d ago

Great great game. Would need another playthrough (Gwent and horse racing) to get the platinum, plus I never bought/played the expansions.

monkey6021820d ago

Slay the Spire is an incredible game

Highrevz1820d ago

Agreed but I almost slept on it if I’m honest.

It’s like a traditional turn based RPG without the dramatic story. Monster Train is another good game if you need something similar to Slay the Spire.

monkey6021820d ago

I've heard that actually. Not played it yet though. Good shout!

I'd love to see Sega bring back Eternal Champions.

Why is there no Star Gladiator or Battle Arena Toshinden?

Terry_B2267d ago

Because the other 10 mentioned series were better. Star Gladiator 2 was just the first part with more characters, Battle Arena Toshinden went really downhill after the 2nd game.

BlackTar1872266d ago (Edited 2266d ago )

o got it. Cause you said those games aren't as good... Got it.

since Battle 1&2 were pretty damn good and Star Gladiator 1 was very good those sound like perfect games to remake.

Also saying a fighting game is the same as it's predecessor with more characters sums up like 90% of all sequel fighting games.

Also BA3 was not a bad game and wasn't given a bad reception.

Skuletor2267d ago (Edited 2267d ago )

I think licensing is one of the major reasons Fight for NY hasn't been ported, since its original release. Def Jam had a poll on their Twitter a year or two ago asking if people would be interested in a new entry to the series. A surprise next gen release with AKI developing it would be cool

Silly gameAr2267d ago

Definitely yes to Weaponlord, Bloody Roar, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Bushido Blade, Darkstalkers, and the Def Jam games. I was really big into fighting games when I was younger. I would Like Primal Rage, B.A,T., and Eternal Champions to come back as well.

BlackTar1872266d ago

Primal Rage was good. There was also another game that was kinda like Weaponlord that I used to really like but I can't remember the name.

Ready to Rumble was cool back int he day as well

Ninver2266d ago

Rival schools and virtual fighters
