IGN: MAG and Move Impressions

People had known for a while that Zipper Interactive's next SOCOM game for the PS3 would be Move-compatible, but MAG? Well, that was a surprise, although it certainly makes sense. It's a clever way for Zipper to breathe new life into their game without needing a major overhaul, and there's a good chance that a lot of the groundwork for MAG had been done in their development of SOCOM.

Dramscus5743d ago

from what I've seen of people playing with it and the options screens it'll work best if you make all the sensor boxes as small as possible.

Bigpappy5743d ago

Most people's hands are not that steady, and in a heated battle fast yet steady is going to win every time. This is a major dilema for the Move: It can do FPS but not better than the DS3. There are some things that should work better on the Move, e.g: RTS; swords; magic; drawing circle and coloring them in; writing your name. But the most popular Harcore game will remain better on the DS3. If I owned a PS3, I would probably still get the move for those different experiences that the DS3 can not provide.

Bigpappy5743d ago

Is that the new way of saying auto aim? The only way to correct someones aim is to make it hip if they are close enough.

Hey man. You need to calm down that fanboy attitude and listen to what the reviewer is telling you. It is not as easy as using the controller!

Hotel_Moscow5743d ago

dam how unsteady can a persons hand be

ive played killzone 2 as a sniper and i must admit i forget you can use the ds3 to move the scope

FragGen5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

I have a brilliant idea for the *perfect* FPS controller. You have this handheld "puck" type thing with buttons and a wheel on top and laser on the bottom that you move on a surface to control aiming and firing and then this board like thing with a big array of easily accessible buttons on it that you use to control movement and actions.

I'm going to patent it and you guys are going to be like, "whoa!! Dude!".

Dramscus5742d ago

man your totally living in the 80's

Bobbykotickrulesz5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

Practice makes perfect.

You aren't going to start using Move on a game like MAG and dominate from the get go. Although *cough* I am pretty amazing a video games so I'll probably learn much much faster than others.. *cough* 5.3 K/D on MAG *cough*

Edit: No no no you do NOT have a 5.3 K/D spread ITS JUST IMPOSSIbLE /disagree
@below
The only people that put emphasis on K/D ratios and stats are people that actually play the game well. obviously, if you were really good at a game you'd enjoy having good stats to reflect the way you play. But of course, if you're pretty terrible you wouldn't give two shits about any stats because what's the point? you can barely get a kill before you die so who cares what you've done in your overall time playing? lmao.

The stats are there for a reason. Because good players enjoy seeing how they have performed. Same with anything. sports is a good example.

deadreckoning6665743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

The only people who put empasis into K/D ratio are pro gamers, people who are overly competitive for no reason, or people with no lives. I'd rather have fun than worry about how many kills/deaths I need to get in the next round.

mugoldeneagle035743d ago

I've played MAG. A lot. It's sitting 5 feet away from me and I'll even play with anyone who wants to.

I'm not saying the gun doesn't move at all, but give me an upgraded machine gun, slots maxed, and I could average a 30-5. And I consider myself "good" at shooters.

PSN: mugoldeneagle03, and kudos to at least responding w/ your disagree

mugoldeneagle035743d ago

I'm a K/D ratio guy myself, and I've played a ton of shooters, and MAG is by far one of the easiest I've played. The guns have close to zero recoil, most game modes involve pure camping (or "defending"), and weapon ratings are completely unbalanced.

Gun skill wise I'd say it's easier than MW2 too. Not the game, just the shooting aspect. So a 5.3 isn't that impressive at all.

xman065743d ago

You obviously have not played MAG.

Run around holding the shoot button using a lmg or assault rifle against somebody coming at you full speed... then how many bullets you fire to drop them against how many it takes by taping the button for 2 to 3 round bursts. Another example take a 2nd or 3rd tier sniper rifle from any faction and fire at someone while scoped and standing/crouching... then come back and tell me how that there is no recoil.

danmachine5743d ago

"We've spent a little time using the Move with MAG."

looks like it takes time to master the move on MAG, although it takes time to master anything.

i will be testing it out for myself when move comes out.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5743d ago

Looks good.

So you need to practice to get used to it.

IHateYouFanboys5743d ago

anyone that thought that using Move for First Person Shooters or Third Person Shooters would make it MORE accurate and easy to control were kidding themselves to begin with.

firstly theres the fact that you have to aim your hand at what you want to shoot/look at. that adds a delay to your actions, and also it adds inaccuracy.

secondly theres the fact that whenever you hold your arm out in front of you holding a controller for more than a few seconds, your arm tires and your arm will start moving around and shaking. this again adds more inaccuracy.

thirdly, a twin analogue setup is PERFECT for shooters as it gives precise and quick movements to both moving your character and your aiming. why replace something that works just for the sake of it?

HelghastKid5743d ago

If your arm tires out from holding it out for a few seconds you may have a problem. Thing is you dont even need to have your arm extended all the way to play, you can hold it like you hold a dualshock and get the same results. Also nothing is being replaced, its only another option. Nothing wrong with more options.

IHateYouFanboys5743d ago

yeah the problem is called 'being a human'. just sit there holding your arm out in front of you for say 2 minutes, and then tell me that it doesnt get tired. good luck with that.

if you use Move like you would a dualshock - so probably holding it down around your lap with your arms resting on something - then you will not get a great enough range of movement and control with the Move controller. itd be like going from playing all of your games on low sensitivity for aiming to super high sensitivity, meaning a slight move will result in a much more dramatic on-screen move, making it less controllably.

there is something wrong with more options when the new option is 100% worse in every way than the original. and remember how many PS3 fanboys whinged about forza 3 having the OPTION to rewind, and the OPTION for auto braking? with a name like yours, im sure you were one of them.

HelghastKid5743d ago

Your acting like you have to keep your arm completely held out when thats not the case. Also watch some move tech demos, you dont have to put the "move" anyhere near the eye for it to know what your doing. You dont like move, i can accept that, but dont act like your talking facts when thats stricly opinion your spewing.

Oh and please dont assume anything it makes you look like a jackass, my name has nothing to do with silly fanboy wars. I like killzone so thats why its my name Please look in my comment history all i talk about is ps3 related news and im not a fan of forza or GT so im not in those articles. Funny your name is "IHateYouFanboys" yet you seem to have fanboy qualities by coming in here and bashing things for no reason.

morganfell5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

You are correct Helghast. There is a video out of a guy playing SOCOM way back at GDC and he is sitting down and the Move gets plenty of lateral and vertical range to cover everything. That way you won't get tired. And Move has come a long way since then.

Here:

pwned...

The only way your arms get tired is using kinect and moving in slow motion to navigate the menus or playing 4 games in a row that involve jumping or this:

Denethor_II5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

"a twin analogue setup is PERFECT for shooters "
Well......no, if your picking holes, a mouse and keyboard are much more precise.
How long have IGN been testing this tech to give their brief, but definitive, analysis? I'll make up my own mind unswayed by the bias, such as yourself obviously contains.

IHateYouFanboys5743d ago (Edited 5743d ago )

on a console im talking about perfect controls, obviously.

mouse + keyboard doesnt work for consoles, as people generally play from their lounge, and theyre not the standard controller like they are on PCs. if youve got a PC, youve got a keyboard and mouse. likewise if youve got a HD console, youve got a dual analogue controller.

IGN have had the Move for at least a week, going on 2 iirc. every day last week they had a 'Move: Day 1', 'Move: Day 2' article. i think a week/2 weeks is more than enough to give an analysis.

ill buy move eventually, but it wont be until a game comes out that REQUIRES it and takes advantage of it. MAG/Killzone/Socom/Heavy Rain? no thanks, if im playing them ill be using a standard controller for them.

ive also got a PSEye already, so gotta wait and see what the prices are for just the Move + sub controller, as i dont particularly want a second PSEye.

doesnt really matter if i dont buy Move for a few months, as those months will be filled with Reach anyway.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle25d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga33d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199233d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga32d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box33d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion32d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7233d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7533d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit33d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14933d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7733d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
