Move, Kinect, or Neither?

Loot Ninja writes:

"We have finally entered the age of Motion Controls. Ever since the Wii took the gaming world by storm (a lot of us still wondering how), it was only a matter of time until the other two giants engineered their next-gen answer. With advanced reviews of PlayStation Move being lukewarm at best and early word of Kinect being received in the same manner, does the hardcore gamer really want this?"

Moves on my pre order list, diskinect you can get the £1 and get read of that £29.99 after the £129.99 list.

Iceland5649d ago (Edited 5649d ago )

I'm moving towards PlayStation Move. I might get Kinect later though.

Elimin85649d ago

Move on or get disKINECTed.... Kinect just might hit the spot for some if not all 360 Gamers but Mve just has more appeal to me.

My 2Cents...

8-bit5649d ago

I am going with move because I will end up with games I already planned to buy. I'd be buying Killzone 3, Socom, LBP2 and GT5 regardless of Move support so having Move as an option is nice. I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of shovel ware games that I don't play a few weeks later.

I'll buy whichever one has a killer game that requires it first. Both if they make decent games for them.

However, for the foreseeable future - neither.

wow going back in the days of wii release here on n4g i remember that a loooooooot of fanboys from both sides (MS Xbox and SONY PS) criticizes Nintendo Wii but today waving a wand and jumping moving the arms is the shit.

OH THE HYPOCRISY !

@ AssassinHD

"and perhaps change their minds"

so the lesson learned is that before you criticizes something just wait 4 years and see what happens?

MY opinion is that a lot of people they just go behind the trend and not what they really like.

AssassinHD5649d ago

It is not really hypocrisy. It has been nearly 4 years now since the Wii released. People have had time to get acquainted with the technology and perhaps change their minds. Motion control is a proven concept now, whereas then it was not.

Also, in order to claim hypocrisy you would have to prove that the same people who are promoting motion controls today were condemning motion controls back then. It is possible that those same people still dislike motion controls, and that the only reason why it seems like "everyone" is supporting them now is because the install bases across all platforms is larger now than it was in the past. Larger install base = more people who may have a different opinion than the people who expressed their opinion 4 years ago.

plstcsldgr5649d ago

from what I've been seeing from video reviews these two new motion gaming controls, are far beyond anything the wii can do. have you seen the video of the kid who plays wii all the time and the dad playing the move the kid can't figure it out because the wii has burned its crappy motion in the kids head he just sits there waggling the controller around while the dad is using actual movements to control the game.

AssassinHD5649d ago

I feel very sorry for you. Out of all that wisdom that I just shared, not a bit of it reached you. People should not condemn a technology before it has a chance to prove itself. That is absolutely true. Your response about waiting 4 years and seeing what happens is just childish though. Also, it is entirely reasonable for someone to have a change of heart.

You did not even attempt to address the rest of my comment. Can you prove that the people who were against motion controls 4 years ago are the same people who are supporting them today? If you cannot prove that then you cannot claim that hypocrisy exists.

boodybandit5649d ago (Edited 5649d ago )

Most of the comments early on when the Wii launched was Game Cube 1.5 with a motion control. 480p graphics and analog PLII sound. Most games on the Wii early on didn't even look as good as Gamecube games.

480p doesn't look all that great on a 1080p display unless you have a really good upscaler and purchase the component cables for the Wii. The sound is okay but it is a little muted running it on a HD-DD & DTS sound processor. The biggest problem with owning the Wii is the hit or miss with 3rd party devs and publishers making great games. Nintendo made consoles usually favor Nintendo made games.

In nearly every aspect the Wii felt then and still feels today, dated compared to the 360 and PS3. Now we get those motion controls in HD graphics with Digital sound and on the PS3 HD-DD & DTS sound. Personally I am looking forward to giving Move a try with Killzone 3 and other 1st party games from Sony. My first game is going to be Heavy Rain since I have yet to play it and I feel move will add to the overall experience and immersion of that title.

Oner5649d ago (Edited 5649d ago )

There is no hypocrisy. Only the one that you have made up in your little "world".

The Wii has been condemned since day 1 when people learned about it's inaccuracy! NOT because of it's "motion controllability experience". If you will not attempt to reasonably understand that, then you are simply just covering your ears, stomping your feet screaming NO, NO, NO, NO, NO in an immature fit.

The PS Move shows/proves that "motion controllability" is BETTER when it's done properly BECAUSE of it's accuracy (and because it can do more for/with said capability)...the way it should have been done to begin with.

Anyone who has given Super Mario Galaxy 1 a try would be able to say honestly the experience was quite amazing (similar to how Super Mario 64 was)...while playing Wii sports would be more of an "Eh? WTF is this BS?". Now that is not to say that Wii Sports isn't fun. But it's based off casual input mechanics, not what CORE players come to expect and even demand. There is the difference right there and why you are claiming "hypocrisy"...but that's incorrect.

Moentjers5649d ago

I have MOVE, NAV controller and RUSE ordered and ready to go.

ethan5649d ago

Same here! Pre-ordered Move Bundle along with extra Move controller, Start The Party!, and The Fight. Can't wait!!

Christopher5649d ago

Depends on the games for me.

Nothing speaks to me with Kinect, and I am a bit pissed at how they're resorting to lies in their recent marketing.

I'm interested in Table Tennis and Dead Space: Extraction with Move, but honestly not enough to justify the price being asked right now.

albel_nox5649d ago

They are both overpriced. The Kinect's lineup of games is downright awful. The Move's lineup isn't much better. I once owned a Wii so I'm pretty much done with crappy motion control devices.

cliffbo5649d ago

where have you been looking? seriously, you must live in a box if you think the line up for MOVE isn't much better than Kinect. it blows it out of the water

deadreckoning6665649d ago (Edited 5649d ago )

I'd rather spend my money on Move since all I have is a PS3..but you are right, there both expensive. Especially considering that the navigation controller is 30 bux. I have a DS3, but I'd rather buy the navigation controller to play Move like it was meant to be played.

@cliffbo- I think hes only talking about the crappy, shallow party games that will be launching with Move and Kinect. But hes right, theres nothing coming out this year thats gunna blow people away and show everyone why should buy Move Day 1. The two best Move games this year ill probably be Time Crisis: Raging Storm and RE5: GOLD. Neither are worth buying Move this year IMO.

@JQM78- Well I'm waiting for the price of the navigation controller to drop...and for Infamous 2.

@darthv72- Well said. Bubbles.

darthv725649d ago

i see potential in both that maybe others dont. Just a matter of perspective I guess. I may not care for the games on kinect at the moment but they will get better. Games for move will improve as well.

You just have to give these guys time to mature but until then I can play both and look forward to more each has to offer.

GuruStarr785649d ago (Edited 5649d ago )

got a move preordered, but thinking of cancelling until something good is announced or comes out, will probably wait for review scores on sorcery......tacking motion controls onto existing properties is not my thing either......Kinect is a no-go all the way.......I like my gaming with some sort of button-input, and not on-rails.

fiercescuba5649d ago

@ albel_nox

Agreed and bubbled. Fanboyism aside, I'm not impressed with either and will need something to really blow me away before I buy another peripheral.

dkgshiz5649d ago

Motion controls are not really that great but Sorcery looks good. Kinect Im not going to be bothering with.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg492d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga491d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken491d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77492d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2491d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
