Without further ado, here's a gathered peek at what the critics are saying about BioShock. To be perfectly honest, the scores and comments you're about to see are, well, unprecedented.
They are also likely to exist as a truly monumental yardstick of quality that almost all succeeding FPS offerings (regardless of host platform) are going to struggle to reach, let alone surpass.

The fourth game in the ‘BioShock’ series has been in development for more than a decade
Bioshock is one of my favourites franchises. I love all 3 games and have played each several times. I even have a room in my house that is loosely decorated around the theme of Bioshock (with a Lighthouse, coral models and postcards styled as though they are from both Rapture and Columbus).
And yet I am going to find it extremely difficult to get even remotely excited about any future episode in the series after all the problems this has had in its development cycle.
Leave the franchise alone. Remaster them again if you have to. Then put whatever talent you have to use on something brand new.
It sucks this game is in development hell because I love BioShock and would love a 4th game. I hope it turns out great, but I guess we'll see.
It's been in development hell since 2014. This is nothing new. It saddens me because it's one of my favorite series. At this point, Judas may end up releasing first.
Bioshock 4 (if it ever comes out) will probably still look and play like a Bioshock game, but without Kevin, it might miss that spark that made the originals so special. Honestly, Judas might end up feeling more like the real spiritual successor.

Console Creatures writes, "The BioShock film at Netflix is still happening but with a reduced budget."
It's 10 years too late for a BioShock film. The world of Rapture would have been perfect for a film. It's actually a good candidate for proper utilization of 3D, for increased depth rather than bullshit popping out of the screen. It could really show off the underwater city that way. But BioShock as a brand is so irrelevant these days that a film just doesn't make sense. Especially considering it would need a big budget and top notch effects to really take advantage of the IP.
Netflix greenlights anything, so that shows me very little faith in the project. Enough to just crap something out as they're, more and more, known to do.
I'll laugh if it turns out to be better then the Borderlands movie
Freaking craziness!! I never thought I would see the day a game gets this level of universal acclaim. Well done Ken Levine! I bet the entire Bioshock team couldn't be happier with these results.
It will be interesting to see how (or if) all this critical acclaim will translate into major console/ major hardware sales...Also, it will be real interesting (in light of the games reception) to see what happens to the console war if this(as rumors have suggested) does eventually appear on PS3.
the game is a little overhyped. Even some editors at 1up say that.
We'll see.
I am a games journalist, I get plenty of games for free and when I buy them, I usually get second hand copies. In this case on the strength of the demo I will certainly be making an exception and buying a copy during the release window.
It raises the bar on every level, the sound design on the demo is arguably the best there has ever been in a game, visually it is stunning and from the moment you step out of the water, the atmosphere grips you like a vice.
I have a hunch that this game will be a classic and a benchmark on the same scale (or bigger) as Half Life 2. I hope this comes to every machine capable of running it, as it deserves to be appreciated by as wide an audience as possible.
I've been playing videogames since Pong in the '70s and have owned almost every console at one time or another (don't have a PS3...yet) and you know when you're playing a game that is going to change videogaming with its greatness. I think most gamers can remember being in the presence of a masterpiece of gaming as fondly as watching thier favorite movies for the first time or hearing their favorite music. Bioshock is a masterpiece! I can say it after just playing the demo! It is that good! It is amazing! Add Big Daddy to the list of videogame icons like Lara Croft, Master Chief, Mario, Metroid, Cloud, etc. It is jaw dropping great! Believe the hype!
A comment string immune to PS3 fanboys. We only get these once a quarter guys - this site is so ridiculously pumped full of these blind PS3 followers it's nice to see an article that they cannot spin.
I wonder what they're going to do when the rest of the lineup starts showing up and crushing in reviews? Maybe they will stay quiet just like this.
Have fun "playing" HOME.
