If you read the article, there's a disclaimer at the end that if anyone can do it, Rocksteady can.

But using the traditional formula of today's coop games, I don't think it would help.

They have a good formula, don't fiddle around with it. If they want co-op then do a spin-off game, don't dick around with something that already works great. That's a trap far too many devs fall into these days.
