A D-Pad redesign is a must because the one place the Xbox controller failed!

I never understood why console companies couldn't just have 3 designs out on the market at the same time, so people can have a choice on what controller they use rather than just being stuck with one design. I am not a fan of the out of place left stick, and i much prefer it right next to my right one, and i don't want to get a POS generic brand controller.

8-bit5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

I almost thought you said it was the one place xbox failed. I was about to burst your bubble. I actually really love the feel of the xbox controller. It feels nicer than the Dualshock in my opinion but it's not a deal breaker.

more things for microsoft to have us re-buy /s

i can add my old dpad controller
to the pile of rrod xboxs
wifi adapter, wired controller, battery packs, proprietary hard drives, hddvd drive, web camera thing

but hey i got an awesome xbox slim thats glossy and quiet
and im paying even more for xbox live yey!

next time Microsoft please use lube

ElementX5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

Well at least MS controllers have replaceable battery packs, you have to buy a whole new DS3...

btw, how is a wifi adapter, hddvd, and web cam "rebuying"? Last time I checked, you only had to buy those things once if you wanetd it.

Also, if you had a RROD, why would you keep them all when MS extended the warranty for 3 years?

SilentNegotiator5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

Microsoft and Sony should redesign their controllers.
MS needs to fix their D-pad and Sony their "triggers"

"Well at least MS controllers have replaceable battery packs, you have to buy a whole new DS3"
Debunked fanboy myth. The DS3 battery can indeed be replaced. You just have to special order it and do up some screws and you have a replaced battery.

0mega45736d ago

im a heavy user on my xbox and if you are to you know that you've had to replace the battery several times and there not cheap at all its like 20 dollars while a ds3 is 50 and if you know how to remove skrews you can replace the battery in the ps3 controller

Hallmark Moment5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

Well at least with MOVE you don't have to throw the motion stick away because it has batteries.

eggbert5736d ago

you can replace a dualshock 3's battery, unless you don't know how to operate a screwdriver. I'm assuming you don't?

killedinaction95736d ago

eneloop batteries last for ages.
no need to buy any new batteries for a long time.

Yi-Long5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

... Yet, once again the question pops up: Why the hell make the newly designed controller LIMITED, instead of just replacing the old controller permanently with the new and improved D-pad version!?!?

FURY__UNLEASHED5736d ago

The controllers that come the 360 slim have a redesigned d-pad. I got a 360 slim a couplke weeks ago. The d-pad actually works properly...

Theonik5736d ago

Limited edition my ass. Bundle it with the console!

dabri55736d ago

Because he doesn't really have any of those things laying around in a pile. He is just trying to make a point. The most he prob has is a XBOX slim and live account. Maybe a recharge battery.
As I've said many times here, there is absolutely no reason to toss a RROD 360 as they are all within warranty. I very seriously doubt there is anyone who has had their 360 for more than 4 years without it rrod on them at least once. As soon as it does, you get MS to fix it and your 3 year warranty starts over.
The only people who aren't able to get a FREE repair are the ones who modded their console. Can you really say you feel bad for them?

DelbertGrady5736d ago

It's not like they took away rumble and forced us to buy new controllers just to experience a "last gen feature", is it?

AngryTypingGuy5735d ago

"yey
more things for microsoft to have us re-buy /s"

What's wrong with MS slightly improving their already close-to-perfect controller? If this was Sony doing this, people would be saying how awesome of a company they are, but because MS is revamping their controller, they're greedy and evil. Remember MS isn't forcing anyone to go out and buy a new controller.

darthv725735d ago

i distinctly remember on n4g an article about a year (maybe 2) about a new red controller that was being released with a better d-pad.

I personally dont have a problem with it. I like the feel of the whole controller and if they refine the points on the d-pad to improve response then that is cool too.

I mean the 360 d-pad is nothing like the 3do one was when that came out. You had to tweak the screws on the back to get the diagonal response to work until they made a better design.

Anybody remember that besides me?

Trroy5735d ago (Edited 5735d ago )

Just FYI to those who don't know: Sony will replace controllers with worn-out batteries for free, as I recall (I think you s=till need to pay shipping, much like the 360 coffin).

Also, DualShock3s have lithium ion batteries in them -- which last MUCH longer than the nickel-metal-hydride, etc., rechargables you can buy for the 360. We're talking a good 8-10 years here -- i.e. the entire console generation, and thousands of charges, not the 200 or so charges you tend to get out of a pair of NiMH AAs (~2-3 years I'd say... less if you have a charging stand). The chances of you sending one to Sony before then are slim to none.

The Sony battery solution is the better one -- make no mistake about it. It's laughable to think that people believe otherwise, although I suppose the reasoning requires more than average-joe knowledge.

Blaze9295736d ago

it took them 5 years to realize the dpad on that shit sucked ass? wow Microsoft.

Can't wait to see the new design. Hopefully not a full controller design but just the d-pad. and limited edition? sure...

Fan Tastic5736d ago

No kidding!! 5 years to make a controller that doesn't suck ass.. 5 years to make a controller that will actually work with 2D games or or other games the require using the d-pad to move in a straight right or left direction!

Funky Town_TX5736d ago

That is the only issue I have with the controller.

Blaze9295736d ago

woah hold up, the dpad is the same one form the original xbox controller is it not? make that 9 years then.

Redrum0595736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

its about time, the d-pad sucks on that controller, try playing games like MvC2 with it... you cant.
they might sell it at 69.99 or something

Corepred45736d ago

You play mvc2 with the dpad? How's that working out for you? Able to do all the combos easily?

Yi-Long5736d ago

... plus they hike up the price for LIVE, and continue to rip us off with DLC etc etc...

... well.... then that's it. I'll be done paying for the 360 and I'll just get it modded. There's only so much wallet-raping I can take before I say: 'well... now it's starting to sting a bit...'.

The controllers are way overpriced as they are already, and the D-PAD (which should have been a pretty damn basic and simple thing to actually get right) should have been perfect before the controller even got released, instead of many MANY years later getting a 'fix', and then only a 'limited' fix.

They better not charge more for it than the 'normal' controller.

Kurt Russell5736d ago

I use my d-pad to change weapons... nothing more. Happy to use analogue, and the proprietor of a fightstick when it is required.

Yi-Long5736d ago

... I've had it with Microsoft.

1: The FINALLY fix a problem that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

2: They then decide to bundle it with something I don't need, while the controller is already hevaily overpriced as it is, making it even more expensive.

What a bunch of crap :( Typical though.

"debunked fanboy myth"

I'm not a fanboy :) If anything I play PS3 more, until I started ME1 and 2 back-to-back. I was unaware about special ordering batteries, BTW I didn't disagree.

http://www.facebook.com/#!/...

Bgibbs5736d ago

You don't have to "special order" them, they are all over E-bay.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from...

-PINNER-5736d ago

I was unaware that the batteries in a DS3 needed replacing, I've been rocking mine since release. It still holds its charge for over 12hrs. I play about 10-15 hours a week, so for the last 2 1/2 years I've played around 1600 hrs on its original battery. I think I'll end up buying a new controller due to it wear and tear before I need a new battery.

na2ru15736d ago

that it has a comfier shaped grip. Home button is too big and too easy to accidently press.

DeFFeR5736d ago

How in the world to do you accidentally press the guide button?

I have never once pushed that button on accident - weird.

Same with the PS3 - but that's smaller. I still don't know how you can do that - do you hold the controller weird or something?

Microsoft_Spokesman5736d ago

LMAO I don't think I EVER pressed my guide button accidentally too.

OneSneakyMofo5736d ago

Too bad I can't buy a new controller because of the price hike :(

Don't piss and moan because you can't type 4 words into a google search and hit "shopping"

PS360PCROCKS5735d ago

thank you rad. I hate when people do that. Like when they enter a story on N4G and say "whats the release date" google it you lazy shit, it's what I do! I usually do it for them, but it makes no sense to me.

PopEmUp5736d ago

Actually ElementX don't, hes just a 6 years old kid playing his daddy laptop

joydestroy5735d ago (Edited 5735d ago )

they re-designed the d-pad a while ago and did something like this. it was on a limited edition controller that was a lime color.

edit: here it is http://www.gamespot.com/new...

itsastranger5735d ago

@Yi-Long If it's limited they can charge you $79.99....duh

Shepherd 2145735d ago

Some of you guys are completely pathetic.

A new controller design with an improvement on something that tons of people have been complaining about for years(the D-pad), and some of you still bitch.

ridiculous.

I love my Xbox, but the d-pad on the controller blows. If this new controller's d-pad is better, considered one sold.

Abash5736d ago

Consider two sold to me if the D-pad is good. I can't stand the D-pad on the regular 360 controller, it's just horrible

TrevorPhillips5736d ago (Edited 5736d ago )

thank god now i can play fighting games on 360 :)

theonlylolking5736d ago

YES!! Now change how far we can more the radius of the xbox analog sticks. Why cant we move them far? Its like they thought to themselves this

Lets make a controller that is super confortable to hold but make a crap d-pad and make it so that you cant move the analog sticks up, down, left or right far so are players will be inaccurate.

ZombieAutopsy5736d ago

I can play fighters on my 360 now? Day 3 buy for me.

dgroundwater5736d ago

Lol a day three? Is that some sort of euphemism with the kids these days? Or is your paycheck always late?

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.
