i don't think anyone will stop paying

blitz06235740d ago

I'm sure some people will stop. MS just dug themselves a deeper hole. They're slowly losing exclusives, and now they increase the price for online. I think even if they add features, it still won't justify this raise.
To me it's almost 100% greed, but we'll see, MS may have something up their sleeve.

evrfighter5740d ago

they could only do this now because of Reach.

I pay for a couple xbl accounts don't plan on buying Reach. My accounts are Terminated effective as soon as I feel like going through the process.

deadreckoning6665740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

Yep, I told my friend about the price increase today and he says he going to invest more money into his PS3.

Bobbykotickrulesz5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

You can't go around jacking up prices with the economy in such a terrible state.

Get punched in the nuts, Microsoft.

Rumor5740d ago

are brainwashed by this product, they are getting milked like slaughterhouse cows

Rainstorm815740d ago

To me it seems MS is betting on Kinect bringing in new casual gamers that never knew XBL was 50$ annually.

Im racking my brain to see the justification for it but i come up with the same as most GREED..... i mean what else is there?

The new features but be XBL changing to hike the price this far in the consoles life.

ChineseDemocracy5740d ago

I don't mean to be ignorant or anything, but has Microsoft done their big update yet? like last time around there was a huge dashboard overhaul (i think), so you never know they might be adding some sweet new features in there. Still not really an excuse to bump an extra $10 on to the price tag though. I'm guessing they're *cough* compensating for something.

Playerz85740d ago

Smart people will buy $50 subscription cards before they sell out so they can use them years later, lol.

And, I hate when people spell Xbox like XBox. It looks retarded.

Triella5740d ago

Just imagine if MS was the only console maker... they would most likely triple the fee or impose a weekly plan to play online and charge you for limit overrun.

Microsoft sees what Kinect will become. The only way to make up their loss is to increase their Xbox Live by $10. It's the only plausible excuse.

Megaton5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

They've already been paying this long, so I doubt they really care. Surprised Microsoft didn't go further, really. Once you've got people believing their money is actually being spent wisely on a fee to access the internet they already pay for, you can crank it up a little more yearly if you want. They'll take it, and some will even defend it, as seen around here.

lovemyps35740d ago

i already have my xbox360 listed on amazon right now, so i will NOT be paying, it hurts missing out of gears of war 3 but i had to do it.

shoddy5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

it's a must buy for REACH multiplayer. Resistance is futile.

Agent-865740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

They are experts at squeezing every last dime out of people through over-priced, proprietary add-ons like HDD's (internal and external), wi-fi, or flash drives. Then, they force you to buy Gold to play online, even if you don't need all the other crap they include (which are all available on any PC for free). To add insult to injury, the online is Peer to Peer and doesn't even include dedicated servers (see, that's something worth paying for). Now, they are introducing "incremental price creep" on their subscription plan to continue the "milking".

If XBL Gold is as worthwhile of a service as 360 fans and MS like to tell us, then it should be able to stand on its own without the dependency of forcing people to buy it to do any online gaming. Offer free online gaming and chat for the Silver membership, then the Gold subscription would have X-game chat plus everything else it currently has (facebook, netflix, etc.). Then, if Gold was truly a choice, and not forced, I wonder how many would actually pay for it? Then again, M$ would never let that happen; they love their "cash cows".

OneSneakyMofo5740d ago

It's sickening to see all of these people justify a $10 PERMANENT price increase. Sure, they may deliver something UNBELIEVABLE, but they've been doing this for 9 years. Why the need to increase their price now? They have more users than ever, yet they want more?

All you people defending or justifying it are ignorant; all you people with just a 360 who are helpless have my condolences.

Daishi5740d ago

You've got a choice to play another console, so why does it hurt your feelings so much? Sure you could go to the cafeteria and eat cheap, but some people don't mind paying to eat at a restraunt, do you curse their names and tell them the restraunt is ripping them off for charging $7 for a hamburger that they could get for less at the cafeteria? Let people make their own decisions for crying out loud.

Feihc Retsam5740d ago

But how many of you cancelled your cable internet service after the annual price hike?
Was there a mass exodus from Comcast cable to Verizon DSL? No, there wasn't.
People take the path of least resistance because they:
A) Believe the service warrants the price increase
B) Have no other option
C) Are too lazy to do anything about it
D) Don't think it's enough of a price increase to care.

Would be nice if we get more content/features on XBL because of the price raise but i doubt it...i doubt it. I know i'll still pay it but i usually only buy 3 months at a time and then just buy more when a game comes out that i feel like playing, crap thing is most of my 360 games i play co-op but for some reason you have to have LIVE to do that too.

The flaw in the article though IMO is that yes people will still keep paying instead of buying a ps3 just to get free gaming but if they do keep increasing the price yearly or bi-yearly like the article said I wouldn't doubt some of those dedicated xbox players switching to a different console next gen instead of paying 125$ a year.

Garrus_Vakarian5740d ago

It's a shame that I won't be able to enjoy Halo: Reach's multiplayer for long. :(

Lucreto5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

If you are a 360 only person you will moan about it but you will still pay. If you own a PS3 as well you at least have the option to play more online for free.
I keep hearing the $10 is worth it for ESPN. It costs me pennys to have 3 different ESPN channels is it different in the US?

lokiroo4205740d ago

ESPN is a basic package channel.

OneSneakyMofo5740d ago (Edited 5740d ago )

You know what? I can pay $25 more and get basic cable. That comes with ESPN1, ESPN2, Fox Sports, a local sports channel, and a regional sports channel not including the games I see on ABC, Fox, NBC, CBS, etc.

$10 is not worth it.

rjgbyrne5740d ago

FU Microsoft, and the 3 RRoD consoles I buried. You can keep your mitts out of my wallet for the foreseeable future. The curse of a thousand flashing LEDs upon you.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.
