i hope this doesnt take away from the sp experience

wohoo5749d ago

I doubt it will, Visceral knows that's what got the game all the high praise.

drdistracto7075749d ago

all i care about is that its not humans vs necromorphs

i dont want to learn a whole new gameplay style and control scheme for multiplayer

imo, it should be Unitarians vs EDF with any possible necromorphs being AI

dgroundwater5749d ago (Edited 5749d ago )

I hate to say it, but the problem is unavoidable. Single player will always suffer when multiplayer is added. Whether it's time and money spent putting it together, extensive playtesting, or simple disk space, a multiplayer mode will hinder the developers ability to craft the best single player they can.

Dead Space 1 had to reuse areas once or twice over the course of the game. To me, that says disk space was being reached and they had to get creative. They will have to follow Bungie's lead and smartly re-purpose SP areas and make them MP maps.

"Single player will always suffer when multiplayer is added"

In most cases I think the Single Player portion of a game is affected when Multiplayer is added, but I think there's a few games whose Single Player component wasn't affected by Multiplayer, like Uncharted 2 for instance... The Single Player in UC2 was longer than UC1 and had even bigger set pieces than the Original.

Even though DS2 is one of my most anticipated Multiplat's of 2011, I REALLY hope that the Single Player component in DS2 isn't affected that much by Multiplayer, because I'm buying it solely for the Single Player experience.

"Single player will always suffer when multiplayer is added."

Not always.

And personally, I would rather have a 'good' sp game with mp, than a 'great' sp game that only adds like 2 or 3 more hours to the game without any mp.

I get that the golden age of gaming was primarily sp dominant until recently, but gaming evolves, and there is room for both SP and MP in todays world.

Besides, I think Dead Spaces mp will be a bit more unique than todays standard run of the mill tps. Besides gears, we haven't really seen any overly violent/visceral tps mp games this gen.

SaberEdge5749d ago

Everything I have seen about the single player portion of Dead Space 2 looks amazing. If they are indeed adding multiplayer I trust that they have still created a fantastic single player experience.

Make it side co-op mini-campaigns like Resistance 2, and it'll be great. Make some of them necromorph campaigns, and you'll have a golden game. I'd love to do a co-op mini-campaign as a necromorph.

PS3Freak5749d ago

I really loved Resistance 2's Co-op. I rarely touched the competitive mode because of it.

scofios5749d ago (Edited 5749d ago )

@NubXL
I agree with you a co-op mini-campaigns like Resistance 2 . would seem alot better for this game than a call of duty kinda MP , it didn't work for bioshock2 i don't think it would work for dead space .
But i understand why all the dev's want to have MP on their games this gen even if it don't suits their game , if they don't have some sort of MP , the reviewers will have something extra to cry about .

jack_burt0n5749d ago

hope its demons souls style something different, team deathmatch will suck.

Zinc5749d ago

I think it's sad they feel compelled to add this in... But, some people seem to like MP. Generally, not me.

Ares84PS35749d ago

Competitive MP doesn't fit this game at all.

Let's not take away resources from the SP because of this.

Raoh5749d ago

well, this game is going down the drain...

just dropped off my must have list

5749d ago
PS3Freak5749d ago

OK SIR CAPS A LOT!

See what I did there? Anyways, as long as the single player is not affected, MP will be fine, I probably won't spend more than a few hours on it anyway.

Raoh5749d ago

how often has adding multiplayer actually helped a game? its resources invested in a feature to sell more units..

resources better suited for the offline portion which is what made the game popular in the first place...

gta online was a waste after the novelty wore off and the game was just so so..

bioshock 2? eh

the stupidity my friend, is in not realizing the trend that companies will sell you on features early and fast just to keep you hooked in long enough to buy the next game or sequel..

i never said i wont play it, just saying its off my must play list .. i have a top ten list and there are about 100 games i want..

dead space scares the fuk out of me

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel777d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel776d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia777d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda776d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long776d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto776d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long776d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls7796d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado796d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta796d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B796d ago

thanks to the digital pass for it it was not perfect..in fact its difficult to find a working copy since many years.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa899d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno899d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac898d ago (Edited 898d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast898d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial898d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
