Do Today’s Games Require DLC?

"Are we past the days of a self-contained gaming experience?"

Not really, but a lot of companies decide they want to make a quick buck so they take out content from the full game and call it "DLC" when they release it.

... but for me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, it's a reason to NOT buy a game, instead opting to just wait for the GOTY/Complete edition, with all the DLC already on the disc, to be released, and hit the bargain-bin.

Games I would normally have bought for 50-60 bucks, I now just wait until they hit a 20 buck price-point, including all the DLC. And that's only IF I'm still interested in the game by then.

I haven't bought a single piece of DLC and I doubt I ever will.

No and unless the DLC adds something great then I usually don't go in for it. I mean I'm really not going to pay alot of money for new maps, but once in awhile. Games don't need DLC but it is a way for devs to keep people playing there games.

NYC_Gamer5737d ago

nope..because its all just for the easy dollar

jay25737d ago (Edited 5737d ago )

If they're multi platform games it should be the case that PS3 get DLC on disc included in the price (which shouldn't change), 360 games should be slighly cheaper BUT you'll need to pay for the content that doesn't fit on the 25GB disc.

Pandamobile5737d ago

DLC usually isn't an issue of disk space...

jay25736d ago

I think everyone misunderstood me, what I mean is when games are multiplatform, in 99.9% of cases (especially in cases of ex-PS3 exclusives) most of the disc is forfeited, I feel DLC is a rip of, so I think that PS3 owners should be compensated by having DLC on the disc and included in the price as, in some cases the content was ment to be on the dics, and planned contents most likely had to be scrapped.

TheSanchezDavid5737d ago

To be quite honest, I've never really cared for DLC. Strong games don't really need it, and if the Wii is any indication, games will sell even if there's no DLC to be found. Although I think multiplatform games getting exclusive DLC depending on which console they're on is pretty cool.

some do, but some dont....i honestly rarely buy DLC

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8759d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg171d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto758d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia759d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie759d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie759d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh759d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
