Same thing with saints row, guess the kid will have to stay in his room when i am playing. they probably should have an option in these games to turn it off but honestly i wouldn't want to, that is half the fun.

i have a step kid, and he knows if i tell him he can't watch something then doesn't and if he does he gets grounded. anyway if the kid comes down stairs it isn't hard to pause the game because i can hear him coming down the stairs. my house isn't designed in a way that he can peer around a corner and watch so keeping him away isn't as hard as it might be in other places.

1 - censorship sucks - and that's exactly what jak was advocating under the guise of protecting the children. If your parenting skills are so weak and unrefined that you need some type of regulation to compensate for your own inability to explain to a child what they might see/hear - then you are failing at raising a child, namely because the lines of communication have been severed to a point where the child doesn't ask questions and just draws their own conclusions.

Reading some of the other comments would have been better if they were more akin to - 'I cant play this or GoW because I'm going to be with my (insert gender here) at (insert extra curriculum activity here)' or ' I'm going to be helping my (xxx) with their math/reading/science ect and spending some real quality time with the kid, rather then sitting in front of the boob-tube with them'

Back to the game - looks awesome, the demo was fun and I cant wait to have the full version so I can see just how blood red I can paint the mall.

I just wish these games would have a way to turn on/off the gore. I mean if you think about it; the blood and gore may be cool only for the first 5-10 minutes; after that you will not pay attention to those details. I'm not saying that it should be removed from the game; just allow the option to turn off. How hard can that be? Kids are curious about everything. And they usually want to do what daddy does. And by telling they go to your room because daddy wants to play a game that it's bad for them and good for you and bad for them. God forbid they ask you, “if it is bad for me; why do you play it?” Most of you don't have kids or little brothers/sister so you don't have to worry about this (for now). But jokes aside locking your kids in a room so you can play a game; it's not my idea of being a good dad.

Yes kids often times want to do what you are doing but i also draw the line of "i am doing adult things"(as in i am not dead yet and still have some things i want to do in my life including cutting people in half and killing zombies), they need to learn to entertain themselves at times, it helps them to figure out who they are and what they like to do. Not do things because that is what someone else is doing. I don't want to teach a lemming, i don't want someone to follow in my footsteps, i want someone who understands why things are the way they are and makes their own footsteps in the world.
And also understands there are levels, ie things that are ok for everyone to do together and some things you just have to wait to be an adult to do (like play GOW).

A great game it is! This game rocks! Zombie slashing is cool, with anything you can get your hands on.

For real, this is a great game and yes it gives fun in gaming. There are only a few games that do that. It's hilarious the hot burning pan to push it in a zombie's face. Zombie's are already dead people it's not that bad ;)

You usually bring up some good points, but here I think you're dead wrong. I think this game is cool but simply being able to turn off blood and gore is an easy way to sidestep politicians and doesn't hurt the game itself one bit. If you want the gore, go ahead, keep it on, if you have young kids, turn it off. It doesn't change the gameplay one bit.

i agree with you there completely. read my post #9. that is why i like the distinction of levels such as adult things and adult toys (such as certain video games). when i am doing something adult (such as playing GOW) it is time for them to go somewhere else and play with their toys. Age has everything to do with it. i don't believe a 8-10yr old should see this game, if they are 14 i don't think they should play it but if they see me playing it isn't the end of the world. i believe when the age allows they should see certain things but you should be there to explain to them the truth of what they are seeing because chances are they have seen or heard about it from somewhere else already and don't have the facts. for example the 13 yr old comes down stairs asks what you are doing, a good answer is killing zombies. an 8yr old walks down stairs you pause the game and tell them you are playing an adult video game and they can't watch.

These games are rated M for a reason. They are not designed for kids to play. Here is an idea, how about people start being parents instead of trying to make society parent their children. Why should I not be able to play a violent videogame because you dont think its right? You simply avoid the material and keep ot from your kids. I am so sick of this issue being pushed when movies and other forms of media and entertainment do whatever the hell they like. I personally think its fun to rip the heads of of "fictional" zombies and i also enjoy shooting people in gta because its not real. And quite frankly being able to come home and take your stress out in gta after a hard days work may actually prevent real life violence.

Just like every rational person in here has explained before, if you don't want your kids to play the game, don't give them access to it. It shouldn't be anyone else but the parents' responsibility to raise their kids the right way. It all comes down to responsibility; you don't want to make the effort to be a responsible parent and raise your kids, so you need someone else to regulate what your kids see for you. So in that quote you mean to tell me that it's ok for your child to think it's ok that he chase and shoots someone with a shotgun cause they only are going to get back up and be ok after it's done and there's no blood or guts spilling out which could be the effect of getting shot with a shotgun? Or do you sit down and explain to your kids that if someone gets shot with a shotgun it can cause serious harm or even kill a person?

I don't think the Mart is flaming anyone I think he's pointing out a very obvious fact that no one seems to realize. A Turn Off Button is not the solution. You can't turn off life and you can't live in a bubble. Part of parenting comes from being able to teach your kids the difference from real and makebelieve and also preventing them from viewing or getting there hands on inappropiate material.

This game is the funnist that I've played so far, and I like the fact that the main guy is just some regular dude trapped in a mall. And going into the different stores using what's available to kill zombies makes this a must have game for me....the only dilemna is that Saints Row, And N3 are must haves as well. So little money....So many games. :(

I started with a NES and I remember playing Friday the 13th on it. When you threw knives and such to kill zombies/jason etc.. No blood/gore but still using weapons to kill things. Even minus the blood/gore the games are still violent intended. You're still going to be able to shoot people, stab people, etc.. If you are going to complain about the blood & gore, you should also complain about the things that induce it. If Im shooting/stabbing etc. stuff, I want to see the results and blood/gore gives it more emersion. Also like in Mortal Kombat the fatalities while not realistic much like the special moves you can do aren't. They are awesome because it's something you can't do, but in the game you can. You get to be something you aren't when you play games, and thats what I love about them. If I were in a fight and could do Sub Zero's spine rip and get away with it in real life that would be sweet. Honestly who hasn't told someone "I wanna rip your head off" or anything? video games are our ways of acting out the angered actions with knowing full well that we won't get in trouble for doing it in a game. My parents raised me really well and I love my parents. But in like 2nd grade I was playing Mortal Kombat/Time Killers etc. and it never phased me. I also listen to heavy metal/death metal etc.. all the lyrics in many ways I can relate to. Some songs are sad about certain life problems which I can relate to. Some are for example about wanting to kill a girlfriend for sleeping around on them and stuff. I gotta be honest when a chick does me wrong I get freaking all out ticked, and if none of you can relate to that situation trust me it sucks. I can relate to my music in ways that I can games. But this can honestly go on forever. It all comes down to being a great parent and teaching right from wrong. I've played violent video games since I learned to pick up a controller and I've listened to some of the most insane music out there. But my parents where great enough to raise me with the morals, love, and know it all... that has kept my head on straight and it has served me well in life.

Dead Rising though! I already have mine paid and ready for pick up tomorrow. Can't wait. Imagine being in your characters shoes, we'd all be going crazy using everything we could to get out of a zombie situation like that, lol. Totally awesome. Im a big fan of the Evil Dead movies, so since this is horror/comedy it's right up my alley.

PS = Also EVERYONE knows no matter what parents do or say kids always dis-obey on things eventually. Also what you don't want them to see or think they shouldn't see, the most certainly/obviously see it some where else or do it some where else. Just a few examples = you may tell your kids not to drink when it comes to high school, but high school kids go to parties and they also have older sisters/brothers or their friends do or they know older people that will score them drinks if they want them. Or you have the girls that their parents make them dress a certain way, but when the girl leaves they switch into their hidden stash of skank clothes that mom and dad didn't know about it. It could go on and on forever. There are so many things that you can do for your kids, but there are points where they gotta learn for yourselves. It's growing up, and we all know we've learned things the hard way at some point!

I was just trying to say that just cause you see and hear certain things. Don't mean you have to act upon them or act them out. Hell some things you can't (especially compared to some things in games). Just raise your kids great and enjoy the results. Everyone is different with their approaches. Just learned to live, love, and enjoy life to it's fullest. Do it in the way that makes you happy and enjoy the ride! wether you are a parent or not!

The Mart- I disagree with what you say about the xbox being targeted for 18-35yr olds. Who says that? You. Ok. But that's your outspoken opinion. Nowhere do Microsoft or the xbox packaging say that this is suited for 18-35yr olds. Older people are starting to be lured to consoles and Microsoft said themselves they are targeting the younger audiences (Viva Pinata anyone?). So you are not stating facts. It also troubles me with your inability to admit that games may influence younger children: for good, or bad. All sources of entertainment does, but the fact is games have the 'image' of kids playing games, whether the image is there or not. You wouldn't understand my ranting, not if you don't have a kid like me.

Just great I got on this to see what people thought of the demo and all I get is a bunch of idiots trying to blame video games once again for the problems of their kids by them not being a parent. Look I am a parent and know that it is my responsibility to not just give my kid a computer with internet or a video game console and just turn them loose. These video games are made for fun by adults who know the difference and can handle it. It is our job as parents to monitor what our kids do instead of going about our daily lives and make sure they are not doing things that they should not. I would not buy this or any other game for my child until he was of the age that he knew the difference between right and wrong because of my communication with him and teaching him. I was raised around guns and taught the differences between right and wrong and now no video game or movie gives me even the slightest urge to go out and repeat such things. There are other countries that will do that for you so go there. There are things in this country that I don't agree with or think is right, but I don't have the right to tell them they cannot do it or view it as long as it does not infringe on my rights. This game is good, Im planing to buy it. I like the idea of killing lost and lots of zombies. In this whole off topic moral rant that you started with the very first post you have contradicted yourself. You have gone off about the violence in the games and how they should not even be made, we should not be allowed to buy them. Well I would just like to point out that you stated in your post #18.3 that you wanted more games like test drive and mass effect. I have seen the trailer for mass effect and uh oh there is violence in it and I saw him shooting a gun at live (not zombies) people and they died. So ummmmm. How is violence in one game ok and another it is not and who are you to decide which is ok for everyone else? Also I agree that you should lead your children by example but they will see the good examples you set in real life and will be exposed at some point to the bad (this is where a good parent comes in). We as good parents need to be there, not to shelter them from the bad, but to explain to them why it is bad and teach them not to go that route. I mean by your logic of not doing anything your child cannot do and leading by an example, then you cannot have sex until your child is old enought to and you cannot drive a car until your child is sixteen. Do you smoke? Can't do that till you child is old enough to (even though in my opinion that is a bad example at any age). My point may be taken to an extreme but I am just trying to point out that there are a lot of things that your child will want to do because daddy does them, but that does not mean they are mature enough to. Someone made the comment about locking a child in a room so you can play a video game is being a bad dad, well I agree, that is why mine are only played at times when I don't have to get rid of my child. In that same respect though if you are taking precious time away from you child so you can play any game whether it is violent or not is a bad thing. But then again I won't try to get game makers to stop making games because it takes time away from families. By the way the game has been banned in Germany if you would like to go there since they agree with you about the violence.

Just wanted to clarify for you about the gun issue that you seem to be so against. First of all it sounds like you live in Europe somewhere so why are you so worried about Americans having and owning guns? Also sure we own guns for self defense in our homes and they have statisticly been proven to have lower crime rates in those areas but we also own guns for recreation, such as shooting inanimate objects just because we enjoy it. We own them for sport and competition, shooting at targets. We also own them to hunt for food. Amazingly enough people did this before the invention of the grocery store and still do to this day. People use guns to get food for their family and it makes us more independent in that way from our government. We that are gun owners can go out and support our family with crops of vegetables and meat from hunting without being so dependent on what a store has or having to pay their cost. Guns do have another purpose than violence and killing people. The end result is purly reliant upon the user and uh oh wait again I come back to the parents and what they taught their children about guns.

This old statement has been, is, and will always be true. The problem with the Marts reasoning is that guns are not what kills people but people who kill people. The above statement has been proven time and again. One of the above posters commented that the Mart was probable from Europe. He/she should go back and check the history books on WWII. It was the passifist attitude of Europe in the interum between the first and second world wars that allowed Hitler to conquer nearly all of Europe. The European countries assumed that if they didn't arm themselves that all wars would end. The problem again goes back to the basic erroneous assumption that weapons kill people. Eventually someone will decide to perpetrate killing and death on others. This is a reality of the human condition and will always raise it's ugly head. Well I have a 6 year old boy as well and I let him play Halo all the time. The rating system is B.S. because Halo does not deserve an "M" rating. The only reason for it is the guns and green/purple alien blood stirred up a lot of concerned parents knowing that kids love this game. Despite the "M" rating, I've played Halo all the way through and I feel that my boy can play it. I let my son play any game he wants and guess what? He is the most well behaved, LEAST aggressive, LEAST violent kid in the neighborhood. He's very intelligent, has moral values, does not lie, does not pick fights, and when he has an issue he talks with either his mom or myself and we work it out in a healthy manner (unlike most of the hell raising, rambunctious boys around the neighborhood!).

I'm a father of six kids who all play video games. Why is it so hard for parents to explain to their kids that its not real. My kids know that what you see on a game, movie, and most things on TV is a form of entertainment. I always tell them that what you see on a game stays on the game. If they start acting out what they see or heard, Me the parent takes it away from them. Whenever we are out in public people always tell me how well behave my kids are. the truth is that the only way we can stop there from being guns is if we reverse time back to the late 1700's because as of now are society is going to have guns. i am against guns because any real man or woman can handle themselves without the use of guns and the ones that cant are the ones who feel the need to carry weapons. also the xbox 360 isnt just a console for adults it was made to target people of all ages so there is something for everyone on the 360 so why do you feel that you need to shelter kids when they have plenty of games on the system. and please dont make fun of different cultures like europeans im an american but i never feel the need to make fun of someone else because of how they act or what they do its just a dumb thing to do

I don't care much about Dead Rising BUT Resident Evil on the other hand.... maybe they remade Re: code Veronica OR RE9, either way one of those has to show up at least. I doubt they are remaking RE0 or RE5 just yet.
