how video game violence differs from violence on tv in the news, shows or in movies confuses me. yeah, so you get to control the video game but if you suddenly decide you actually want to kill someone, you had issues before playing the video game. the public and media love easy scape goats.

After playing RDR I felt like being a bounty hunter...and of corse while playing MGS4 I wanted to sneak in to places...and then halo 3 made me wanna make cardboard spartin mk VI armor....but this all is nothing compared to playing rapelay and turning in to a sex monster who forces violent sex upon my wife the good news is that this is all a joke but the damn media seems to think I am a cardboard armor wearing wife raping bounty hunter who sneaks in to places

It's much easier for an expert to lay blame at the feet of a type of media. Video games are now more and more making the motive for why it occured.

The truth is that these "experts" simply do not know. Yet, they're brought onto television ans asked what the cause was. So, to save face they claim it was video games that caused this person to do what this person did.

The field of pychology is not an exact science. Well, parts of it aren't, anyways. It is very hard to figure out the pyschological state of a person like this. So, instead of doing that. You get Dr. Phil on MSNBC spewing about that it was a copy of Halo or whatever game it may be that causes such a terrible crime to occur. It's nothing more than a scapegoat for lazy men/women to use.

Do I believe that there are people who can't discern reality from their video games? Yes, I do. Of course they're aren't very many of them. Which is good.

What these ignorant people need to understand is that there is millions of people only in the usa that play violent videogames. If the ones exposed in the media represent 10% of killers who play violent videogames that means that gamers are below the average number of kills pro person.
The other thing they dont get is that these people are shut ins with problems so they stay at home and play games. Those people dont have problems because they play games they play games all day because they have problems. I think society is still fond of the friendly nerd stereotype.

A lot of gamers are dickheads though. I was playing Uncharted 2 tonight and a Japanese guy was getting ripped on because he had JAP as his clan name. Then everytime someone used a RPG or situal awarness they were called a faggot.

The only time videogames have ever killed anyone is when I beat my ex girlfriend to death with my SEGA Dreamcast. I then felt a ton of remorse . . . because I had broken my SEGA Dreamcast.

God forbid it be that simple though. The police check his PS3 trophies and find a game called Killzone, then they run with the story. "Prior to killing the victim, the perpetrator was playing a game called Kill Zone, a game where you bound and gag women, hang them from meat hooks and shoot them until dead. Needless to say, if not for Kill Zone, the victims house would not have become a kill zone." Is it sad that I could see that happening? The picture of this kid getting arrested....he looks effin' psychotic. Also, I'm pretty sure I read that the police investigating the killing were not looking at DDO as the cause for the crime but rather why he immediately went to play it to 'cool' down. Though I have never played DDO I would imagine it's about as benign as a game can get when it comes to violence. I think they are looking for something that may have triggered his reasoning behind doing the horrible thing that he did.

I will try and give police benefit of the doubt. We all forget that its the news that takes stories and twists it in order to get the best headline. We can all admit that even if this is a ludicrous thing to say, they have in fact succeeded in creating buzz and interest in their story.

That's journalism for you. For all we know the police could be talking about a number of things they investigated, with the video game reference being 1 of 50 things they were looking into.
